Wrong. Iran does not own the "whole barrel".

You don't seem to realize that theres a single world market
for petroluem. A plane crash near Bushehr two years ago
sent oil prices up a couple of bucks on the day.

Far be it from me to rain on the chest thumping parade.

Bah, the navy is not toothless - our political leaders are. I suppose it translates to them same thing in Iranian eyes though.

If the Iranians know our politicians are too cowardly to strike, then why should they fear this navy?

"and watch gas hit 6 bucks a gallon."

Every American that has money to invest needs to have a little USO (oil trading vehicle) in their portfolio. Long term oil is going up regardless of the ME crises.

No reason for middle income Americans that have 401ks,IRAs, and portfolios not to be making money off oil instead of whining about what is inevitable.

The angle taken by the Left with regards to the Geneva Conventions will be that the US and Britain are no longer covered by the GC since we are "torturing" detainees and invaded a sovereign nation illegally.

Therefore the Left is going to spin it that these 15 sailors can be tortured/humiliated as Iran pleases.

Well it's either try to vote in conservatives, or take to the streets in civil war, ending with the hanging of all traitors. What do you choose?

hmm, both?

Somebody said something about blood and the tree of liberty, right? I hear there's already an Iraq/Afghan group of vets calling themselves The 300.

The Left can attempt all they want to say the US/UK are not covered by the Geneva Convention. But it will sound utterly retarded especially since the UK isn't doing anything on extraction of prisoner information.

If they wish to side with the mullahs torturing the UK soldiers, they will isolate themselves. But that's not new for those who spend their lifetime defending Stalin, the Soviet Union's various invasions, North Korea, Chavez, etc.

toothless navy ?

Indefensible, hopelessly ignorant, and Iran-helping nonsense!

I never get upset with other posters, but you managed to cross a line, here, buddy.

I say this as not only as someone who is interested in successful defense of our Republic; but, also as a Navy and Marine Dad. (Marines are part of the Navy) .

A second task force with the carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower also took part in the drills.

The "Ike" was in these same waters back in 1979 - 1980 during the U.S. Embassy (Tehran) hostage crises. She was on station for most of the nine months that she was deployed. Except for the present day 'Skipper' older officers and NCO's most of the crew weren't born when the 'Ike' sailed these waters some 27 years ago. The reason I know, my brother-in-law, now a senior Captain with a major airline flew the Hawkeye E-2C off the decks of the 'Ike' during that deployment.

Ours is a toothless navy

The Squids have plenty of teeth, and they know how to use them. It's their political masters who don't seem to understand what those teeth are for, and what they can do.

Should the NCA give the word, the Iranian Navy and Air Force would cease to exist in a very few days. Just a few for their Navy, a few more for their Air Force. Some would undoubtedly fly to ... somewhere.. maybe.. who would take them that's within their range? Can't think of anyone. Nobody likes the Persians, other Shiites barely put up with them.. sometimes.

Syria or Lebanon might be a possibility, but they'd never get past the USAF and RAF flying from bases in Iraq and the 'stans.

In the new metrosexual US, Congress would demand we pull out and then try to cut the funds. And many people would support them.

By the time they got that done, the Iranian Navy and Air Force would no longer be with us. Possibly not even their ballistic missiles and SAMs. But given a week or three, those wouldn't amount to much either. The Navy is already paid for.

If they want to cut off funds already appropriated, it's Constitutional Crisis, impeachment and maybe Claire's time.

Three Harpoons and 2 1000lb bombs can really f$%k up your day.

This captions that same photo this way:

The Iranian frigate IS Sahand (F 74) burns after being attacked by the Joseph Strauss and A-6s. Sahand was hit by three Harpoon missiles, Skipper rocket-propelled bombs, a Walleye laser-guided bomb, and several 1,000-pound bombs.

The United States should bomb and destroy Iran's oil pipelines, for openers.

Actually blocking any tankers carrying gasoline or other refined petroleum products, and hitting their single refinery that produces gasoline, you'd cripple them much more effectively.

They aren't in the Gulf, that lakes a little small for a CVBG, let alone two of them. They carry airplanes to avoid going into such constricted waters. The only things the Iranians have that could reach the carriers would be their ballistic missiles, which couldn't hit them but by some really, really good dumb luck and their Air Force, most of which would be broken and burning on their airfields, the rest of which would be meat for the F-15s and F-22s, not to mention the F/A-18 Hornets of the carriers themselves.

In the event of a kamakazi attack I wonder how many air to air ac would have to follow the strike ac to make sure they didn't chicken out at the last minute. Is Iran like SA where the wealthy get to fly or do they pick hard-core jihadi's for their jets?

Perhaps the refinery plus the pipelines. I see your point about the refinery, but if they can't deliver and sell oil their economy is dead, they're broke.
