“We’ve seen reports coming in from all around the country that animals that were eating the contaminated foods are definitely suffering from renal failure,” said Dr. Steven Hansen, veterinary toxicologist and senior vice president with the ASPCA, who manages the ASPCA’s Midwest Office, including the APCC. “But the data that we’ve been collecting do not conclusively prove this connection, which is why we strongly recommend that those involved in the investigation continue to search for additional contaminants.”

Iams and Eukanuba.
Now that I think about, I believe our vet was suspicious of certain foods even then. Living where we do, we have few neighbors, but those we do have reported similar problems. Our nearest neighbor lost her Yorkie to a mountain lion last month and her kitty to renal failure. Our other neighbor to the west lost a yearling colt to a mountain lion a couple of weeks ago. Actually, we are more worried about the increasing lion problem.
This was from Feb. 16 in USA Today, and I haven't heard anything more about the peanut butter salmonella contamination. Has anyone heard any follow-ups about this investiagation?

This variety of salmonella is so rare that the CDC normally sees only about 100 cases a year, says Robert Tauxe, chief of the CDC's Foodborne and Diarrheal Diseases Branch."

Three weeks ago, I let Scott take Little Bit, to a family he works with, they said it was a match made in heaven.
A few days later, her eyes were glazed and she died.
None of the other cats here are sick.
I have no idea what food they fed her, but when she was with me, she ate all that I did and cat food.
Sorry to hear about "Little Bit". What I find interesting is that my last cat, a little calico, was named "Little Bit".
Little Bit was one I raised by hand, after NO NO abandoned her, as she does with every litter.
It made me sad, as her new family loved her.
So goes life, we miss them, when they leave us.

There were rumors?? I didn't know that. Were you feeding yours Nutro Dry before you switched? I don't know what to do. My dog seems perfectly fine though.
Could you fill me in on the China connection with wheat gluten?

There were. Then I didn't hear anything else about it. I don't trust the companies to be completely truthful about this thing. I have almost always fed mine IAMS or Eukanuba from the time he was 8 weeks old. He's gotten both wet & dry. I thought we were safe because the numbers fell outside of the recall. But then the news about the dry just about freaked me out. The odd thing is the last bag of IAMS I got a couple of weeks ago he all but refused to eat it. I was throwing away more than he was eating.

It is an interesting thought, but I don't think it is logical. (Not that terrorists are known for being logical). Why a trial run? If you have the access to drop poison into a human food supply, why not just go ahead and drop it in? Why tip off the infidels (that's us) beforehand by killing a bunch of animals?
Well I don't know. There was a 9/11 trial run. Remember James Woods? Like I've said before I'm not one of those conspiracy theory types. But maybe they wanted to make sure it COULD be done. Maybe measure the degree of the impact. There's so much about this that doesn't make sense. I get the feeling something's being covered up. And that bothers me.
Pets are special to most Americans and a genuine part of many families. I know that the law says that they are property and appends only minimal monetary costs to be associated with them, but this doesn't quite cover it. We lost our cat to old age and infirmity a couple of years ago. We had him as a family member for 24 years. This is a long time and we still haven't gotten over the loss. I'd have really benn agnered if it came out that he'd died because of pet food poisoning due to apathy by the manufacturers of his dietary staples.

I cannot let this drop, as I laid awake last night thinking of my dog and wondering, when did he start that barking.
This is a note I sent off to my son at 4 A.M. this morning.
Hi Kid,
I was laying in bed thinking just how smart dogs are.
My Mom used to always say, "dogs know".
Pokey, the dog I had when I was a child knew when the vet pulled up outside
on his house call, she would run upstairs and hide under the bed. No one
told her it was him, but that was the only person she would do that to.
Can you remember when Durango started barking, when we were eating. I am
thinking it was around Fathers Day or Dad's birthday or your birthday or so, I can't
remember.
I remember you saying why is he doing that. Remember us saying he started doing that
and we didn't know why. We thought he was just getting old and his
barking didn't bother him, cause he was going deaf.
HE WAS TELLING US ABOUT THE FOOD BEING BAD............He hadn't done
that for all those years suddenly he started. And that is when the bad
food came out and why they tested food in December, dogs were showing
signs of sickness.
It was around early last summer. That is why the barking. he was
still doing it at Christmas
When he got more lethargic and sleeping more he stopped, must have been
sick then, which we contributed to old age.
I guess I am so fricking mad that we unknowingly fed him rat poison, in
those cans and pouches thinking it was such a treat for him, when they, Menu Foods
could have warned us months back.
My Mom was so right saying "dogs know".
I do believe this to be true and Durango knew about the food being bad and was trying
to tell us.
