With five private jets, Travolta still lectures on global warming [W/ Photo]

His serious aviation habit means he is hardly the best person to lecture others on the environment. But John Travolta went ahead and did it anyway.

The 53-year-old actor, a passionate pilot, encouraged his fans to "do their bit" to tackle global warming.

But although he readily admitted: "I fly jets", he failed to mention he actually owns five, along with his own private runway.

Travolta has Al Gore disease. He's so fat he seems to be bursting out of his skin.

I saw John's Qantas 707 on the ramp in Atlanta a few years ago. It's a beautiful restoration.

It's interesting guys like Travolta and Gore and Edwards and Pelosi think all they have to do is speak out against global warming and that's all that is required. Travolta has a lot of company on the left when he calls for the little people to sacrifice while he doesn't.

Right above the 6 car parking area, which in front of the 10 car air-conditioned garage? Yes, with a second flag (American?) on the other pole. But I don't know what his patriotic claim is to either

Improperly posted on the left, as well. The American flag must always be flown on the left staff when flown with a second flag, according to flag protocol.

I wonder if John does buy carbon offsets? After he's opened his mouth and shot himself in the foot he may have to in order to placate his hollywood buddies---and big Al of course.

John Travolta is also a scientologist. Al Bore claims that the earth is a baby with a temperature. Maybe John, Tom Cruise, and Al can cure the earth from globull warming by prescribing it a strict regime of fasting and herbal supplements.

It sure looks nice in that picture. 707s are great old planes. That having been said, those old engines (I'm guessing Pratt and Whitney JT3Ds) are both thirsty and somewhat smoky. It's not at all "green". I'm all for him having him having his plane, but it's ridiculous for him to lecture about global warming.

If he does, it's Al Gore that benefits. He's a principal in they company that buys and sells the offsets and they charge a fee for that.

It's actually a community runway. He shares it several other pilots who live in homes that ajoin the runway like a golfing community.

Travolta ha been known to fly his co-stars home on weekends while shooting movies.

Life in a viable alternative reality. Or maybe multiple alternative realities.

How would you diagnose a condition where a person could be leaning against their Jet-A guzzling private aircraft while telling the world how evil such consumption is? Only in a condition where the ability to compartmentalize different aspects of private life were so well-honed that none of them were allowed to touch each other, where reality itself was only was one of the many sources of the bricks and mortar that were the raw materials from which the mind made its own little, perfect, world.

True, but can I add that it's not an alternative reality a Travolta lives in alone. It's the shared reality of the Liberal Elite. It's based on the premise that the world would be fine and they could continue to live their opulent lifestyle with no guilt over the planet or the poor - IF ONLY the American middle class would sacrifice their greedy lifestyle.

Does anyone remember the "Cher" quote when she raved at us little people having Ipods - just before she jumped in one of her limos?

Being able to live wher you can have a 707 parked in your back yard may be the coolest thing I've ever seen. Seriously.

But remember, Travolta is one of the "People Who Matter" - so any personal carbon use he engages in is OK, as long as he, like Gore, is devoting his efforts to straightening out the "People Who Don't Matter" in flyover country. ;)

Some things are indeed relative. Having flown the predecessor jet for some 19 years, http://www.simviation.com/gallery/fsdgallerykc135a.htm as well as the AF 'C' model with the engines gracing John's jet, there was as much a world of difference in consumption, and power, between the J-57 and the JT3D as there is now between the latest Fans, and the JT3D. Even a greater difference from today's to yesteryear, if two engines can do the work of four.

That said, the AF wasn't interested in engine upgrades until the price of fuel became a looming issue. Engine efficiency and design was also a large factor. There has been a pretty large leap in just the last decade. On the issue at hand, I have to cut John some slack since there aren't many pilots that would not love to jump into his aviation shoes, myself included.

I might even volunteer to fly as co-pilot.

There obviously is a "collective alternative reality", but I think a point of that point of social clustering is the overt permission that members are free to have their own private reality as well.

Conservatives tend to cluster around principles they share in common. Non-Conservatives cluster around what? Maybe what principles they reject. However, when you reject principle, upon what basis do you process information, that is to say, how do you decide what is to be praised and what is to be condemned? I would suggest that it is fashion and passion, or what looks good and feels good at the moment.

Thus we have the perfect image of the Hollywood society- who is hot, who is not, what is new and therefore in, what is old and therefore out. And further, we have continual churn as to who is the opinion leader and why his or her opinion counts.

Thus the focus on 'buzz', or who we should be talking about and paying attention to. Buzz has a very short half life, unless the buzz is part of a larger story. In the case of Travolta, we have the confluence of public virtue, showing how much you care for the earth, and being able to make low-cost statements at how others should be living their lives, that is if they really cared for humanity's ability to survive. Since everyone who voices these concerns only has the best of intentions in their own minds, their own behavior is exempted.

This is the epitome of elitist behavior. In the case of Travolta, the 'little people' are also his fans, and they only love him and hang on his every word when he has any contact with him.
