Britain sending envoy to Tehran
The Washington Times ^ | April 2, 2007 | Sean Rayment

Britain intends to send a senior Royal Navy officer to Tehran with a face-saving plan to win the release of 15 sailors and marines, officials said amid confirmation of direct contacts with Tehran over the matter....

The naval officer, who has commanded ships in the Persian Gulf, would provide Iran with a public assurance that the Royal Navy would never knowingly enter Iranian waters in the future without securing Tehran's permission, officials told the Sunday Telegraph. Officials hope that would be enough to placate Iran's leaders.

I hope this is not true, because it is surely madness. In response to the taking of hostages by Iran, the U.K. would give the Iranian government the opportunity to take another hostage - a "senior Royal Navy officer", no less.

My concern as well, yet another hostage opportunity.

a face-saving plan

The mullahs will enjoy seeing senior Royal Navy officers grovel. They can call their friends in Argentina and let them know that they're in for a treat.

If he's on *his* knees in front of the Iranians, he won't be the one...

...never mind

Cheers!

So, without looking, is he a commander, or a commodore?

This is old news by now.

OK that’s it.

The time has come, in this day of the “Vag_na Monologues”, the day of liberal women preaching about womanhood in the most irritating way possible, for the one, and the only reasonable response:

UNAPOLOGETIC TESTOSTERONE.

Deal with it.

Grin, yeah... And the Iranians wonder why he is so willing to be driven all over the city, meeting with anyone and everyone in government... ;-)

They're sending a military officer... Not a diplomat.

I know this thing sounds like a prearranged “done deal”, but I still have ten bucks that says the Iranians won’t release the 15 servicemembers without a more fulsome “apology” (and maybe not even then).

Presumably, the US is also a has-been nation for its surrender to the Iranians in 1980. And its retreat from Vietnam. And its retreat from Beirut. And its retreat from Somalia?

I have nothing but respect for the U.S. nation and the U.S. military, but I find recent dismissals of the British grossly unfair and an insult to our dead soldiers. Critics of Blair in the UK have argued that the UK has received nothing in return for being the only US ally willing to pay ‘the blood price’ in the War on Terror. Unfortunately, it appears that they might be right.

don’t wet your panties!

the bush-boy administration can’t even deal with internal enemies,

not to mention external.

the same disease that grips europe, grips the states.
