Here we go with the old BS “we need US and Iranian dialog” because they’re just misunderstood.
Glenn Beck says it's because he got what he wanted. He intimidated Britain, the U.N., America, etc. and got to show off his power to all his Arab buddies. Now it looks almost like Pelosi was an influence over his decision. Perfect staging, IMO.

Iran scored big on this one. I hope we can entice them into trying this again.
FOX reporting now that President Bush is ‘welcoming the news’ of the hostages’ release, more to come...
Did you see the journalist from FOX, Amy something, asking Ahmagonnahaveajihad what he wanted from the US and western civilization?? I thought she was going to faint, she looked like she wanted to jump his bones!!! Ack. :-o
When they release them, are they going to make them run through a gauntlet of kicking, screaming fanatics like they did to our guys back in 1980?
She’ll visit his private quarters when the press conference is over and once his Viagra kicks in.
I didn't see/hear Glenn Beck, but my post say about the exact same thing, we (the UK and to an extent, the US at the behest of the UK) gave in to all of Iran's demands - all of them. Iran clearly won and proved that taking hostages, again, is a proven strategy.
Its not over till they are out of Iran hands, Iran lands. It could be another bait and switch operation.
you must be scottish or from middlesbrough to make an argument like that.
try heading to Andalucia’s in Warrington and you will see how good the food is. or the Wig and Mitre in Lincoln. or any of the Cafe Rouge’s. or just head to the chippy. One can’t eat fois gras, beluga and truffles all day can...one?
no bullets fired. no wars started. 15 hostages released without incident. job’s a gud’un.

I think Iran played Britain beautifully. Iran is getting major kudos from across the 3rd world for tweaking the nose of the lion.
Man, I really hope that’s the case, but I have my doubts. There is a story in today’s WSJ and here is a direct quote from it:
“After the news conference, state television showed Mr. Ahmadinejad meeting with the British crew, dressed in business suits, at the presidential palace. He shook hands and chatted with them through a translator, and a caption to the video said the meeting was taking place as part of the “process of release.”
“We appreciate it. Your people have been really kind to us, and we appreciate it very much,” one of the crew could be heard telling Mr. Ahmadinejad in English.
Another said: “We are grateful for your forgiveness.”
Mr. Ahmadinejad responded in Farsi, “You are welcome.”
-End Quote
Kind of pathetic really.
A better course of action would have been to slap Ahmedinejad across the chops, cursing the filthy Persians to Hell...
Oh thats right, if they had done that they wouldn’t be going home to see their families. Still, far better to verbally abuse your enemy than be at home, write?
No, I’m not suggesting that; however, neither do I think these hostages had to go out of their way, as they did, to lick the boots of their captor. Simply remaining silent would seem to have been the more prudent and honorable thing to do. Their reaction upon being released, coupled with them not even firing one shot as they were led away as lambs to a slaughter is startling.
Actually, I was born in Grantham, down the road from Maggie Thatcher’s dad’s store, and I was of course joking (I actually love poke pie as well!). But more seriously, I worry that the lack of resolve shown in this crisis (including in the polls) will cause others, such as the Argentinians, to push the limit as well.
oh well. swings and roundabouts i guess. with all the camera’s present, clearly it was stage managed. My guess, and I stress guess, is that someone in the Iranian Revo Guard acted a bit out of sync with either Ahmadinejad’s government, or the Supreme Council.
The mixed messages from Iran does appear to show some degree of disunity. We wont ever know exactly what went on, but the Iranians were calling the shots when it came to the release of the 15 RN crew. So they score a few points with a bit of propaganda, but thats a cheap price when one thinks what it could have been. Had they opened fire when kidnapped they would have died, and a war started. None of us, I think, would want that to have happened.
Jag: Grantham? I used to roll through there on the way to uni. I understand what you’re saying about the potential for this to be considered a sign of weakness, but if thats the worst that happens then, ok. It could have been so much worse.
Yes, it is. Patton is probably rolling over in his grave.
