Iran Frees Detained British Sailors

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran on Wednesday freed the 15 detained British sailors and marines in what President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called an Easter gift to the British people. Prime Minister Tony Blair said he bore "no ill will" toward the Iranian people. Iranian state television said the 14 men and one woman, who were seized while on patrol in the northern Persian gulf on March 23, would leave Iran on Thursday. An Iranian official in London said they would be handed over to British diplomats in Tehran.

Ahmadinejad's surprise announcement came at a news conference shortly after he pinned a medal on the chest of the Iranian coast guard commander who intercepted the sailors and marines.

"I'm glad that our 15 service personnel have been released and I know their release will come as a relief not just to them but to their families," Blair said outside his No. 10 Downing St. office. "Throughout, we have taken a measured approach, firm but calm, not negotiating but not confronting, either."

Blair added, "To the Iranian people I would simply say this: We bear you no ill will."

Pelosi went to Syria. Coincidence? The MSM will now report that it was Syria talking with Iran that led to the freeing of the hostages. Diplomacy works and that is why a Democrat should be President and why Bush is a cowboy.

I suspect you're right.

Did anyone consider that it may all have been a secret arrangement between Polosi and Ahmadenejad?

"...an attempt to strengthen the political Left in the West..."

Yeah, well the way I see it is they wouldn't have been kidnapped at all if it weren't for the political Left.

Today my friend's daughter-in-law gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Five minutes after I got that news the story broke about the release of the 15 hostages.

It's a good day!!

Thanks be to God!

This was a quid pro quo exchange of the Iranian nuclear scientist ( in Baghdad) for the 15 British Sailors.

This was likely a quid pro quo exchange of the Iranian prisoners in Baghdad for the 15 British Sailors.

I hope we got what we needed from the scientist, who is probably undergoing a tender debrief from the Iranian government.

“It’s sad to watch a once great world power roll over and crawl..”

Hitler with his Luftwaffe and Panzer could never conquer that nation, but the Muslims did it without a fight from the Brits. The sad part is that this trend can also be perceived in the US.

Well if Pelosi did this then it confirms the dems are direct allies with the Islamofacist in trying to undermine the WOT.

It would be so easy to point this out but Repubs are made up of eunuchs. Can't go after domestic enemies of freedom I guess.

Pelosi has it wrong.

The Syrians are ready for piece talks.

One piece of Israel today, another piece tomorrow, etc. Then we want pieces of the west.

What a maroon.

The video is making me absolutely sick.

These soldiers better come out with a convincing tale of torture and hardship that explains their behavior.

And QUICK.

I think the comments referred to reader comments. A la a message board. And in sooth, the vast majority of posters on most internet sites lean quite to the left.

A nation is only as strong as its people, especially one with government responsible to the people. That bodes ill for the West.

So we see that when the French government is not actively betraying western civilization, some good things can be done!

All the more reason to despise the wavering, quavering, back-stabbing French govt in its more typical role vis-a-vis the run-up to the Iraq war, etc.

Does Blair seriously think that anyone believes the Iranians released the hostage soldiers without some type of ‘bribe’?

Let us hope we never find out.

In the interim let us hope that Britan will change its rules of engagement to ensure that no such kidnapping of British Soldiers ever happens again. If they are approached in the open sea or in Iraqi waters by an Iranian gunship, I would hope that the British blow it out of the water.

Personally I would wait until the soldiers are safely on the ground in Iraq and then I would launch an all out assault on the Iranian navy, sinking every last one of the vessels.

But then nobody elected me Prime Minister of Great Britan.
