Giuliani Backs Taxpayer Funded Abortion (Says it today!)
CNN ^ | 4 Apr 07

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.

"Ultimately, it's a constitutional right, and therefore if it's a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected," Giuliani said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash in Florida's capital city.

A video clip of the then-mayoral candidate issuing a similar declaration in 1989 in a speech to the "Women's Coalition" appeared recently on the Internet. "There must be public funding for abortions for poor women," Giuliani says in the speech that is posted on the video sharing site YouTube. "We cannot deny any woman the right to make her own decisions about abortion."

When asked directly Wednesday if he still supported the use of public funding for abortions, Giuliani said "Yes." "If it would deprive someone of a constitutional right," he explained....

“Rudy simply states that all life critical medical procedures should be available to all folks regardless of the ability to pay.”

(Article)
“And the Giuliani campaign noted later in the day that the former mayor would not seek to make any changes to current law, which restricts federal funding to cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother.”

Aborting a child from rape or incest is not necessarily “life critical” but you are right, the issue is public funding. (Keeping in mind that women impregnated by incest or rape have not simply been irresponsible.)
The biggest problem many Americans—not just Freepers—have with this issue & this candidate, I think, is that he is welcomed by groups like NARAL that consider abortion a “choice”—as a morbid form of birth control.

“Ultimately, it’s a constitutional right”

How the hell does he square that? If anything the constitution is against it. It speaks volumes about protecting life and no place in it does it say life begins at birth. What kind of pretzel-ed logic did he use to get to this opinion?

Got it. You aren’t interested in the truth. I knew that by your tagline and other conversations but I hoped you might possibly bend in the face of overwhelming evidence.

I’m through with you. No more pings. No reason to waste the effort.

Rudy simply states that all life critical medical procedures should be available to all folks regardless of the ability to pay.

I'd like to hear him state that Planned Parenthood and their partner abortion clinics should be required by law to inform their victims that abortion is a "life critical medical procedure" in the first place. And I'm not even talking about the baby. Rudy will defend the right of abortion seekers and abortion providers to reach into my wallet and pay for this slaughter, but it's somehow beneath his impeccable moral threshhold to expect the patient to be advised of risk of death or serious injury?

This guy is evil.

Rudy will govern with the mindset of a federal prosecutor, which is what he was before becoming mayor of NY.

The only good thing Rudy did as mayor of NY was appoint Bratton as police chief. Community policing reduced crime dramatically. He made a huge difference. Anyone who lived or worked in the city during the disastrous David Dinkins administration knows this.

My praise for Giuliani ends there. Once crime went down, Rudy’s tyrannical tendencies were on display for all to see. Bratton was popular, and reportedly did some preliminary political work to see if HE should run for mayor. When Rudy found out, Bratton was ousted, pronto.

Replaced by Kerik, despite a shady past (and who Rudy NOW admits he made a mistake in appointing. Yeah, sure, Rudy...).

After violent crime went down, Rudy targeted J-walkers, people who spit gum on the sidewalks, etc. His popularity was low, because of his dictatorial tendencies.

Then, 9/11 happened and these traits became strengths in that context (particularly since George Pataki, the ex-governor, stood mute, consistent with his behaviour during his entire term). 9/11 put Rudy on the map, and his popularity soared proving again, to me at least, that a man’s greatest strengths are also his greatest weaknesses.

Rudy used this new-found political clout to launch a campaign to become US Senator. His oppenent was The Beast (Hillary Rodham). Unfortunately, late into the campaign, and about 2 months before the election, Rudy had a public mid-life meltdown. He had prostate cancer and his second marriage was unraveling. This all played out very publicly, until Rudy decided to drop out of the race, leaving a very unprepared and underfunded candidate (Rick Lazio) to pick up the pieces. Hillary won in a landslide.

Now, if he happens to win the nomination, I will obviously vote for the man. Mostly because I think he’d be stronger on the most overriding issue, the WOT, than any of the Dims. But on every other issue, I think Rudy is nearly indistinguishable from the Dems.

Just my opinion, having lived and worked in NYC for the better part of 40 years.

This guy is evil.

Seems the article is referring to abortion procedures related to incest, rape, and threatening to the life of the mother, not general birth control. The law is evil, not Guiliani. If you don't like Guiliani, don't vote for him. If you don't like the law, change it.

Yes, airing a clip of Giuliani speaking, today, on his views, is "flamebaiting." He's your candidate.

See, this is why I don’t care about the election yet.

No one has any idea who will even still be in it (Not Giuliani, LOL) three or six months from now. A lot of these guys are retarded and will die of foot-in-mouth disease long before then.

I’ll start to care when we within shouting distance of the primaries.

Horse crap. Just because something is legal doesn’t mean that the government has to pay for it. The right to bear arms is granted in the constitution. Doesn’t mean the government should buy everyone a rifle.

But, the primary process is to get the best candidate with the broadest party appeal. The weeding out process is really important, especially in this election, since the Dems will obviously be in control of congress after 2008.

Personally, I would hope that Rudy’s real record (good and bad) will come out during the primary. I think he would make a pretty poor choice. Personally, I will support whatever candidate wins the nomination. I just hope its not Rudy.

Abortion (euthanasia) is the opposite of love.
Love says: ‘I sacrifice myself for you’.
Abortion (euthanasia) says: ‘I sacrifice you for myself’

We let killers live, but kill the babies unborn. We spend thousands and thousands of dollars for killers appeal. Now we will spend yet more thousands of dollars for abortion. I cannot comprehend this. Do these people think the 6th commandment (Thou shall not kill) was a suggestion?

Come on now...he has an R after his name and that means we have to hold our noses and vote for him! Otherwise, a likeminded person with a D after his/her name might win.

Once this gets out Rudy’s done

Scalia has said the same thing, that Roe was a lousy decision but very well could be rationally regarded as precedent if a judge is inclined to do so.

Once this get's out, Scalia's done - IMPEACH!

“Truth is never ‘flamebait’.”

It is when it goes against rudy.

The only rudy stories they want are the ones that make rudy look like the 2nd coming of Reagan, savior of the republican party from the evilllllllll hillary.
