OK. Correction, he is using his newfound political clout to launch a Presidential bid. Simple mistake.

Mea Culpa, Buzzard.

I agree with you completely. Perhaps what I wrote was not clear; however, I never meant to imply that Lincoln single-handedly ignored the Constitution.

I felt the need for the correction in the context of this thread regarding whether Rudy would follow or ignore the Constitution. Cheers!

Rudy will abuse the Constitution the same way that every other liberal has -- he will mention it when it helps, he will mischaracterize it as needed and generally ignore it.

Nice summation. I agree 100%.

(This has become a pretty testy thread. Preview of what will happen when the primary really heats up? I hope not.)

A Rudy poster today has admitted thet Rudy is a social liberal.

Socially liberal policy has to be supported by fiscally liberal policy as is evidenced by Rudys statement in support of taxpayer funded abortion.

This is just the beginning with Rudy. Liberals and socialists are always socially generous with other people's money.

That’s a poor analogy, but typical of someone who uses hyperbole often. The bottom line: The murder rate dropped dramatically under Rudy’s watch. If that is somehow a problem for you then it’s obvious that crime isn’t a priority with you. I don’t agree with all of his gun control proposals, but some are just common sense and clearly reduced crime in NYC.

A “little temporary safety?” LOL !! How about thousands of lives saved? That’s more than just a little and certainly not temporary. I can see owning a guy without any restriction is more important to you than those thousands of people who were not killed by guns in NYC.

I don't want NYC policy raised to the federal level. I value freedom. That includes responsibly owning a firearm without restrictions...as the founders intended with the 2nd Amendment. I moved from California to Idaho because the socialists in Sacramento are the same breed of freedom crushing authoritarians as Rudy Giuliani. I won't vote for someone with Rudy's policy track record at the federal level.

The principal problem in places like New York CIty is gangs. The linguine spined politicians won't deal with the real problem. They choose to punish everyone for the misbehavior of a few. We don't have gang problems like that in Idaho. Owning firearms and having concealed carry permits is normal. It causes no problems. We don't need or want New York City regulations imposed on our state from the federal level. I anticipate a politician's future actions by prior behavior. If I don't like the prior record, I'm not going to elect that person into a position of responsibility.

As Rudy has said time and again, he has no intention of raising NYC policy to a federal level. What’s good for NYC may not be appropriate for Idaho, he maintains. But his policies helped to reduce crime in NYC, and that’s a fact.

There is the key weasel word. "May". It's the key difference between "shall issue" and "may issue" states for concealed carry. In a "may issue" state your ability to get a CCW is not an objective process. It is up to the whim of some official. In a "shall issue" state, you will be issued a CCW if you meet the requirements.

Look at Rudy's public comments over the last 10 years...not just the words he is currently speaking to try to get elected. Politicians will say anything to get elected. The more nebulous and non-commital, the easier it is to weasel out when they choose to act on their real positions.
