Illegal alien detained in death of 'Christmas Story' director
WND ^ | April 6, 2007 | staff writer

Posted on 04/06/2007 2:54:20 PM PDT by Trupolitik

An illegal alien suspected of causing a traffic accident and killing movie director Bob Clark, whose "A Christmas Story" has come alongside "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street" as a perennial holiday must-watch, has been placed under an immigration hold by federal authorities.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency placed the hold on Hector Velazquez-Nava, 24, a Mexican national who was living in Los Angeles as an illegal immigrant, according to a report from Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee.

Agency spokeswoman Virginia Kice said the hold means Valezquez-Nava, when his Los Angeles court proceedings are completed, will be turned over to federal immigration officials and put into deportation proceedings.

In Los Angeles, he was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter, and was being held on $100,000 bail. If he were able to post bail, he would still be held in custody, but by federal authorities, Kice reported.

Police have reported they believe Velazquez-Nava was driving his sport utility vehicle and steered it into the wrong lane on the Pacific Coast Highway early Wednesday. He struck Clark's car head-on, and police say Clark and his son, Ariel Hanrath-Clark, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, Velazquez-Nava was tested and had a 0.24 percent blood-alcohol level about the time of the accident, which would be three times what the state law considers enough to be presumed to be driving drunk.

Velazquez-Nava reportedly was driving without a license, and he and a passenger, identified as Lidia Mora, 29, were treated for minor injuries.

ALIPAC reported Velazquez-Nava didn't have any previous deportations but had been convicted in 2004 in Los Angeles of soliciting a prostitute. Court records revealed he was given 24 months probation and a $1,500 fine after pleading no contest.

Clark's big success came from his work on the 1983 production of "A Christmas Story," which tells of the campaign by a 1940s youngster, Ralphie Parker, played by Peter Billingsley, to get a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas.

It also tells how his "Old Man," played by Darren McGavin, wins a "major award," which is revealed to be a lamp shaped like a woman's leg wearing fishnet stockings.

Earlier, Clark had specialized in horror films and thrillers, such as the 1970s, "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things," and "Murder by Decree." In 1981, he released the sex farce "Porky's" and then in 1983 did the adaptation of Jean Shepherd's memoirs.

According to the Times article, Ariel was studying music at Santa Monica College.

Lyne Leavy, who headed Clark's production company, Film Classic Productions, said they often were together at night, and were on the highway early Wednesday, although it was unclear whether they were going to get something to eat or going to Ariel's apartment in nearby Santa Monica.

"[Clark] was a gentleman, one of the nicest people I knew," his New York business manager, Stuart Ditsky, told the Times. "He always kept his word. He would never hurt anybody or put in anything in his movies to embarrass anyone."

You could make a case that ‘A Christmas Story’ has been seen by more people then any English language film in the last 35 years or so.

I would say that of the last 4 times on the road in which I nearly got into a car accident in the last two years (in North Carolina), three have been because of illegal aliens. Crazy driving maneuvers. Sometimes I feel like I’m running a gauntlet.

How sad. Illegal aliens keep killing Americans. Yet we provide them with special perks. They should be deported, our laws enforced.

The Supreme Court told EPA it must enforce its laws. Same way with illegal aliens - first of all, they should not be eligible for any social services or to attended school, certainly not reduced college tuition.

Fox News channel had a story this morning about 2 teenage girls who were killed by a drunken illegal alien driver. This scum had been arrested months before for drunk driving and using a fake drivers license. The judge gave him 3 months and released him without having to serve one day of the sentence. The authorities knew he was an illegal alien and did nothing. Those 2 girls blood is on the hands of the powers that be in this country who tolerate illegal immigration.

More Americans killed by illegal aliens than Iraq war, study says

When you start digging into the numbers the only ones that can be sourced with the feds are the number of American murdered in 2005: 16692
I have seen federal numbers for illegals held in jail ranging from 19.3% to 27% of the federal prison population.

Below is a sampling of USA cities posted pictures of perps wanted for murder. What you'll see is that in big USA cities like LA or NYC most of the murderers are Hispanic. Unknown are the % of illegals. In smaller cities the FBI will post the nationalities of the murderers. About 25% of the most wanted are illegals wanted for murder. This number agrees with the percentage of illegals incarcerated in federal prisons. +-25%

Pictures of top 10 most wanted in LA. Up until recent stories about crime in LA posted by the LA Times--the pictures included the nationality of the murderers. They were all foreign nationals and mostly Mexican.

Wanted for Murder in New York City.

Chicago wanted for Murder

Philadelphia wanted for murder

New Orleans wanted for Murder

Pictures of suspects wanted for murder in Washington DC

FBI USA 10 most wanted. (two of 10 are Mexican nationals)

There are currently no exact numbers on the number of Americans killed by illegals. Part of the reason is that the government deliberately obscures the number. I talked on the phone with the head of statistics for the US Bureau of Prisons. He said his office wasn't allowed to publish the number of illegal alien murderers. Rather they were forced to put legal and non legal residents in the same category. I talked to ICE. They put out detailed numbers on illegal child molestors. However, they put out nothing on illegal murderers.

Part of the reason for the silence on the matter is that there is evidence to suggest that most Americans being killed by illegals are black--as is the suggestion in this LA Times Article.

All that said, it could be argued that if you include the number of illegals in state and local prisons the number of illegals in jail shrinks to 6% of the total prison population. Never the less if you multiply 16692 (the number of americans murdered in 2005) * .06 (illegal alien percent of total prison population) * 4 (the number of years the US has been in Iraq). The result is that more americans (4006) have been killed by illegals than have been killed in the Iraq war. This point needs to be hammered home. Just as the liberals have hammered home the point about americans killed in Iraq.

Did Bank of America finance the vehicle used in this double murder?
It’s reported that the vehicle used to murder Robert Clark was a GMC Yukon. These are not cheep. Was it financed? If not BofA, who provided financing?
California’s DMV requires proof of insurance before you can register a vehicle! If Hector Velazquez-Nava had no Drivers License, how could he get insurance necessary to register the Yukon? Was the vehicle registered? Who was the registered owner of the Yukon? If not Velazquez-Nava, did the owner knowingly lend the vehicle to an un-licensed driver?
There’s a lot more to this story if the press would only investigate.

Traditionally, drinking to excess is valued in Mexican and Latin culture, where it is seen an expression of machismo. Moreover, MADD reports that Hispanics believe it takes 6-8 drinks to affect driving, while Americans think it takes 2-4 drinks.

In 2001, according to MADD, 44.1 percent of California’s drunk driving arrests in 2001 were of Hispanics, although Hispanics made up only 31.3 percent of the state’s population.

The general incidence of drunk driving has worsened in California—parallel with the skyrocketing Latino population. Accidents involving drunk drivers increased overall nearly 5 percent in the state in 2000, with an uptick in Los Angeles County of 7.6 percent in that year. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for Hispanics ages 1-44.

Experts on the front lines agree that extreme drunkenness is not uncommon in DUI arrests of Latinos. Austin police officer Robert Smith, who has worked the late-night drunk patrol for over three years, noted higher rates of blood alcohol: “One thing I have noticed is that the Hispanics I arrest for DWI, 90 percent of the time, are more drunk than the white and black people I arrest.”

Assistant Dean at the University of Texas School of Public Health in Dallas Raul Caetano put it this way, “The profile of a drunk driver in California is a young Hispanic male, and I bet you have a similar situation all over the Southwest.” He referred to a national survey, saying, “The traditional pattern of drinking in Mexico is one of infrequent drinking of high amounts.” [A troubling trend: Hispanics and DWI Latinos account for nearly half of 2002 Austin arrests By Claire Osborn and Andy Alford Austin American-Statesman Sunday, July 20, 2003]

Statistics from Austin support the observations of these men: Of 3,007 drunken driving arrests in 2002, 43 percent involved Hispanic men, even though they comprised only about 11 percent of the city’s driving population. And the story is similar elsewhere: North Carolina drunk driving arrests of Hispanics in 2000 amounted to 12.3 percent of the total 87,781 DUI arrests, while Latinos were 4.7 percent of the population according to the Census.

As Mr. Spock would say, "Illogical"

A drunk driver killed these people.

The fact that they were illegal Mexicans has nothing to do with it.

There are plenty of drunk US citizens that kill people every day.

Are you suggesting prohibition?

Perhaps you should consider BANNING ALCOHOL.

We could, but they'll just drag it over the border from MEXICO to us, just like they do 90% of the drugs. Or they'll build a still in your national parks and forests, like the Mexican drug cartels are growing pot all over them now.

Precisely the correct question. Jeraldo Rivera debated this last night with Bill O’Reilly, arguing that another drunk driver who “accidentally” killed two young girls committed only a misdemeanor and not a felony. HUH? The person was an ILLEGAL ALIEN, he should be deported no matter what (if any) infraction occuring after his original BREAKING of the LAW - coming into this country.

Jeraldo was also accusing Americans of “luring them here for decades.”

Hey thanks, Jerry. Me thinkest you have too much of a connection to your hispanic name to see this matter without bias...

Once again, a sanctuary city policy has killed Americans.

As we reported last night, 17-year-old Allison Kunhardt and 16-year-old Tessa Tranchant were killed by an illegal alien drunk driver in Virginia. The man, 22-year-old Alfredo Ramos from Mexico, had three previous alcohol-related convictions, and also an identity-theft conviction, but he had never been sentenced to prison.

The incidents all took place in and around Virginia Beach, which is a sanctuary city. That means the authorities do not report criminal illegal aliens to the feds, unless it’s a drastic situation.

Amazingly, the clueless mayor of Virginia Beach, Meyera Oberndorf, doesn’t seem to know that Police Chief Alfred Jacocks is not informing the Feds about illegal criminals:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MEYERA OBERNDORF (D), MAYOR OF VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA: We were called, I believe, a sanctuary city. And I had not heard that before.

But I can promise you, neither I, nor any member of the council has ever adopted any legislation to make this a sanctuary city. But what we have done is we, years ago, set up a Human Rights Commission, so that all people will be given the opportunity to be heard, to be responded to, as we would any citizen.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Ridiculous.

Along with Mayor Oberndorf, Judge Colon Whitehurst is also a villain. Even after a DUI conviction, he would not sentence Ramos to jail the second time around, putting him right back out on the street, where he was able to kill the two girls.

And the governor of Virginia, Timothy Kaine, he doesn’t seem to care much about policing illegal aliens.

Now, last night, the father and sister of Allison Kunhardt had the courage to speak to us just hours after Allison’s funeral.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ASHLEY KUNHARDT, SISTER KILLED BY ILLEGAL ALIEN: Oh, Ally was—Ally was full of life. She was very sweet. She was very innocent.

DAVID KUNHARDT, DAUGHTER KILLED BY ILLEGAL ALIEN: You try to reason why anything like this would ever happen to your daughter, because it’s senseless, you start to think about what’s wrong with our system.

It’s not one thing, it’s several things. It has to do with the immigration laws not being followed correctly, or they’re too slack.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

All right.

“Talking Point” says, enough is enough. President Bush should warn all the sanctuary cities, which we have listed on billoreilly.com, that, if they continue to disobey federal law, their law enforcement federal grants will be cut off. That should happen today, Mr. President.

Secondly, the good people of Virginia Beach should immediately begin a recall process for Mayor Oberndorf. It’s obvious she doesn’t know what’s going on.

And, by the way, the mayor has refused to come on “The Factor”, and was called a number of times, despite her saying the opposite. She was called. We can prove it.

And the bottom line on this is that all Americans have a right to protection from irresponsible people. The Founders created government to provide that protection. But our governments generally have bowed to political correctness and are failing to protect us.

We are going to make Virginia Beach the flash point in stopping the immigration madness. We hope astute media people like Kerry Daugherty of The Pilot down there will help us out. No more sanctuary cities, period.

And that’s “The Memo.”

Most Ridiculous Item

We’re getting quite a bit of action on our billoreilly.com poll question: Will actor Charlie Sheen damage his career if he narrates a 9/11 conspiracy film?

Some of those voting are far left Kool-Aid drinkers told to support Sheen by nutty Web sites they visit.

Now I really feel sorry for these people, I do, as they are similar to the ones who followed crazy Jim Jones down to South America in the `70s and wound up drinking a poison Kool-Aid-like substance which of course killed them.

People who are incapable of thinking of themselves are always exploited, always, thus the name, Kool-Aid drinkers.

In addition, they are ridiculous. But we want you to vote on our poll, those of you who are thinking for yourselves.

O’Reilly and Geraldo on Illegals

Friday, April 06, 2007

This is a partial transcript from “The O’Reilly Factor,” April 5, 2007, that has been edited for clarity.

BILL O’REILLY, HOST: Now for the “Top Story” tonight: another view of this on the fair and balanced network, FOX News correspondent Geraldo Rivera, seen weekends at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

GERALDO RIVERA, HOST, “GERALDO AT LARGE”: Thank goodness.

O’REILLY: OK. Sanctuary cities, what do you think?

RIVERA: I think you have the story almost exactly wrong, my friend. I think that we’re talking about drunk driving. And there were 347 drunk driving fatalities in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the year 2005. I think this may be the first drunk driving story we have done from Virginia.

And the only reason it’s news on “The Factor” is because the driver was an illegal alien.

O’REILLY: Right.

RIVERA: What if his name was Bubba? What if his name was Buddy? What if his name was Bobby?

O’REILLY: Not the same story. Not the same story.

RIVERA: It’s not the same story, but, still, you know — and my heart goes out to those parents.

O’REILLY: I hope so.

RIVERA: Really, it does. But there are 17,000 families that suffered the way those parents have.

O’REILLY: Yes.

RIVERA: It’s not an illegal alien story, Bill. It’s a drunk driving story.

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: Here’s why you’re wrong.

RIVERA: And I think you owe that poor lady mayor an apology.

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: No. No.

RIVERA: She doesn’t enforce immigration policy.

O’REILLY: She has set up a system in her city knowingly...

RIVERA: No, she hasn’t, Bill.

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: ... that says the police chief...

RIVERA: Don’t be the — don’t be the — what’s his name, Lou Dobbs’ mom.

(CROSSTALK)

RIVERA: Lou Dobbs has regenerated his dead career on the backs of illegal aliens.

O’REILLY: All right.

RIVERA: Let’s not go there.

O’REILLY: You listen to me. I will listen to you.

RIVERA: The Minutemen are wearing guns now on the border.

O’REILLY: You listen to me. I will listen to you.

RIVERA: Are they going to start shooting illegal aliens?

O’REILLY: When you enter this country illegally, number one, you have no right to be here, no right. That’s the truth.

RIVERA: That’s true.

O’REILLY: And, number two, when you’re caught committing a crime, as this man was, four times.

RIVERA: He was drunk in public twice.

O’REILLY: Hold it. Four times.

(CROSSTALK)

RIVERA: And, one time, he was a drunk driver with no victims.

O’REILLY: He should have been deported the first time. And he was not. And the reason he wasn’t deported...

RIVERA: Because he didn’t commit a felony.

O’REILLY: It doesn’t make any difference.

RIVERA: And he didn’t commit a misdemeanor...

O’REILLY: He committed a crime.

RIVERA: He didn’t commit a misdemeanor having to do with moral turpitude either.

O’REILLY: All right.

(CROSSTALK)

RIVERA: Everyone followed the law. You owe everyone an apology, from the governor to the mayor down.

O’REILLY: No, they didn’t. No, they didn’t.

Now, I just want to get this straight. You, Geraldo Rivera, with teenage daughters...

RIVERA: Right.

O’REILLY: ... are telling me that you are OK with somebody sneaking into the country, becoming drunk, get convicted of a DUI, and staying here? You’re all right with that?

RIVERA: My nightmare is my daughters having anything to do with a drunk...

O’REILLY: Are you OK with that?

RIVERA: Let me finish my answer.

My nightmare is my daughters having anything to do with a person driving drunk. That’s my nightmare.

O’REILLY: OK.

RIVERA: It could be a Jewish drunk. It could be a Polish drunk.

O’REILLY: But this guy didn’t have to be here.

RIVERA: It could be an Irish drunk.

O’REILLY: No.

RIVERA: It could be an Italian drunk. What the hell difference does it make?

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: It makes plenty of difference!

RIVERA: It does not, Bill.

O’REILLY: He doesn’t have a right to be here!

RIVERA: He didn’t commit a felony.

O’REILLY: He doesn’t have a right to be in this country!

RIVERA: What — but that has nothing to do with the fact that he was a drunk!

O’REILLY: Yes, it does! He should have been deported! He should have been deported!

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: And this mayor and the police chief didn’t deport him!

RIVERA: Listen, do you know how many people we have in jail? How many of them are illegal aliens? Illegal aliens commit crimes at a lower rate than citizens do. They do.

O’REILLY: This guy shouldn’t have been here.

RIVERA: Cool your jets. It has nothing to do with illegal aliens. It has to do with drunk driving.

O’REILLY: It doesn’t.

RIVERA: Don’t obscure a tragedy to make a cheap political point.

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: If I’m the father...

RIVERA: It’s a cheap political point!

O’REILLY: No, it isn’t.

RIVERA: And you know it!

O’REILLY: This is justice.

RIVERA: This has nothing to do with that poor old lady mayor.

O’REILLY: And you want anarchy.

RIVERA: Has nothing to do with that mayor.

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: No. You want anarchy.

RIVERA: No. What I want...

O’REILLY: You want open-border anarchy. That’s what you want.

RIVERA: What I — what I want is fairness. We have lured these people...

O’REILLY: Fairness? Bull!

RIVERA: We have lured these people...

O’REILLY: This is the law.

RIVERA: We have lured these people to this country...

O’REILLY: Oh, yeah.

RIVERA: ... with a promise of jobs in a country with basically full domestic employment.

O’REILLY: All right.

RIVERA: We have, for decades, lured them here.

O’REILLY: This family...

RIVERA: And now we’re starting a mob scene. You’re going to have...

O’REILLY: This family lured no one.

(CROSSTALK)

RIVERA: Do you want your viewers to go knocking on people’s door, door to door?

O’REILLY: Oh, bull. That’s bull.

RIVERA: “Are you an illegal? I want to take you outside and do something to you.”

O’REILLY: I want the law enforced.

RIVERA: History has seen what happens when you single out people like that.

O’REILLY: I want the law enforced.

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: And you don’t.

RIVERA: Bill...

O’REILLY: You don’t.

RIVERA: Half of Congress, if they had the courage — the president of the United States, if you look at what he has to say — all want reasoned immigration reform.

O’REILLY: Then do that.

RIVERA: But to take this tragedy in Virginia Beach, and make it about illegal aliens...

O’REILLY: It is.

RIVERA: ... is a sin. That is a sin.

O’REILLY: Bull. This family lured no one. This family lost their daughter.

(CROSSTALK)

RIVERA: Three hundred and forty-seven drunk driving fatalities in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

O’REILLY: We deal with Americans.

RIVERA: Do we care about them?

O’REILLY: We deal with Americans that way. And I deal with it all the time — and you know I do — with child predators and everything else.

RIVERA: But I back you with that, because it’s a reasoned approach.

O’REILLY: This is reason.

RIVERA: It singles out the perpetrators...

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: You don’t let these people stay here.

RIVERA: No. Wait. Wait. I think — let’s calm down.

O’REILLY: I will give you the last word.

RIVERA: OK.

O’REILLY: You don’t let these people stay here.

RIVERA: A child predator is someone with a predilection to commit an offense against a juvenile. So, you go — because of that cause and effect, you go after the person who is perpetrating the offense.

There’s no cause and effect between his illegality and his drunkenness.

O’REILLY: Sure there is. He’s irresponsible.

RIVERA: But Latinos aren’t more drunk than other people.

O’REILLY: Latino? Bull. It’s about Ramos, not Latinos.

RIVERA: Right. I agree. And that’s why...

O’REILLY: He should be out.

RIVERA: ... if Ramos was Raminski, would we care?

O’REILLY: We would certainly care.

RIVERA: If he was an illegal?

O’REILLY: If he broke the law, he would go — he gets deported the first time.

RIVERA: Seventeen thousand fatalities drunk driving.

O’REILLY: First time.

All right. How much time do we have?

We have one minute.

What are you doing on your show this weekend?

RIVERA: Oh.

(LAUGHTER)

RIVERA: Well, thank you very much for asking, Bill.

You know, seriously, I think that one of the wonderful things about our network is that we are fair and balanced, that impassioned common peers...

O’REILLY: Yes. People can decide whether you’re right or I’m right.

RIVERA: Right. And they can.

(CROSSTALK)

O’REILLY: And they will decide that I’m right.

(LAUGHTER)

RIVERA: Well...

O’REILLY: All right.

RIVERA: Maybe your viewers will, and my viewers will judge it the other way.

So, will — I think that there is — there is that — what that does is, you often talk about political correctness and left-wing media. And I think that they do think portray our network unfairly, because they fail to represent that we are on different sides of the fence, in this issue most passionately, but many others as well.

O’REILLY: That’s why we have you on every week.

RIVERA: So, I — and I appreciate the chance.

O’REILLY: Right. OK.

Geraldo Rivera, check him out, 8:00 Saturday and Sunday, in “The Factor” slot.

Good weekend. Happy Easter.

Watch “The O’Reilly Factor” weeknights at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET and listen to the “Radio Factor!”

The only way to counter the brown hoarde is to issue hundreds of thousands of work visas to the EU.

Our immigration policy must be adjusted to encourage Swedes, Poles, Eyetalians, Germans, and Belgians to call the USA home!.

All illegal Mexicans must move to South Dakota or be sent to Alcatraz.

Problem solved.

Oreilly uses cheap emotional appeals that weaken his argument even when he has a point.

Why? Mexico is our neighbor. I welcome people that come over here to work, as long as they do it legally, and we can monitor and send them packing if they get into trouble. A lot of American’s work over seas. Most don’t bring their families but of those that do, how many move in and demand benefits? It’s not so much the illegal that bothers me, as the mind set. If you will sneak in and break our law, will you honor all the rest, or continue to do things the way you want? It’s more who you are, than where you are from IMO.

Just wait til Mexican trucks are on our roads... chili con carnage

Wrecks are far more common on Mexican highways. This administration is determined to import that culture to the U.S. no matter what the voters want.

Same way with illegal aliens - first of all, they should not be eligible for any social services or to attended school, certainly not reduced college tuition.

We tried that in California with Prop 187. With zero support from the national GOP, and open opposition from the likes of Jack Kemp and Bill Bennett.

It has plenty to do with the driver being an illegal alien. It’s considered macho to drive drunk in a good portion of Mexican culture.

Thanks for the ping.

“Velazquez-Nava didn’t have any previous deportations”

How many are people allowed, I wonder? A dozen per stolen ID, or more?

will be turned over to federal immigration officials and put into deportation proceedings.

And while we're not looking, he will probably be given a 'Master Card' and released, lol.

Thanks for the ping Trupolitik.

We need a web site that tracks citizens killed by illegals. It could be a running total broken down by murders, duis, and car fatalities. The murders/involuntary manslaughters articles could be linked back to freerepublic as the source of record.

If I had time, I would do it. I am getting sick of unnecessary danger from these "undocumented" workers.
