BREAKING NEWS: Fast's command of fort ends in June
Sierra Vista Herald, Sierra Vista Arizona ^ | Bill Hess

Posted on 04/06/2007 6:21:45 PM PDT by SandRat

FORT HUACHUCA — Maj. Gen. Barbara Fast will be turning over the command of the Intelligence Center and Fort Huachuca on June 29 to Brig. Gen. John Custer.

Fast will become the deputy for the Army Capabilities Integration Center at the Training and Doctrine Command headquarters at Fort Monroe, Va. Custer, who is on the promotion list to major general, will be returning to Fort Huachuca from his current assignment as director of intelligence for the U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. During his previous stint on the fort, Custer served as the Intelligence Center's deputy commander.

Ogod.

I knew Custer as a 1LT.

Unless he has undergone a total personality transplant, look for bad things coming out of the schoolhouse.

Having recently gone through the school-house, the Commandant doesn’t have a big role. I never met or heard MG Fast my entire five months at Ft. Huachuca.

When I wore a younger man’s uniform, Officer Calls to the CG were mandatory. I personally met Uncle Sidney and Uncle Julius in this way.

I am glad I didn’t meet Aunt Claudia. Aunt Barbara, I’m just not sure of.

But Custer? I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Custer did not do too well as a Colonel either. Hiwever, his enemies are always after his scalp!

Then we may have crossed paths a couple of times. Met Uncle Julius when I was as OAC at Ft Wegotcha in 1987. Have no memory of this Custer guy.

Haven’t worn my blues or A’s since I left OBC. Then, I was in Iraq for 10 months immediately after OBC, so that might be a cause for that.

I was briefly at Wegotcha in ‘87, out there for the SSO Course.

OBC in ‘85, OAC in ‘89.

Custer was the DA Rep for MI Branch as an O-1 thru O-3. Ft. meade and the Palace. That’s why you didn’t see him; Huachuca was flyover country to him.

Not likely in my experience. If they are an ass hole when a 2LT or 1LT, you can bet your last can of C-Rations that he is a complete and utter ass hole to deal with now.

Yep, OBC 1983, OAC 1987, stationed and ets 1992-1993. So a little ahead of you. The ones that seem to be strap hangers to the stars seem to be the biggest pains when it really came to working thing.

Think it’s a lateral staff job to hide her.

In the past, the only place for CG Huachuca to go was DCSINT and a third star. That was how it was with Uncle Sidney, Uncle Julius, and I think also Aunt Claudia.

What they're planning on with Aunt Barbara is, and I agree with SandRat, is a lateral to hide her.

Unless he has undergone a total personality transplant, look for bad things coming out of the schoolhouse.

Same old story. I worked for former Clinton Drug Czar and retired General Barry McCaffrey when he was but a lowly light colonel and a Division G3. He ruined careers just because he could. It was sport for him in the 1980s. When he got command of the 3rd Brigade, he got worse. I can only imagine him as the Div Cdr for the 24th ID during Desert Storm. But he got along fine with the Clinton's. Hmmmmm.

This Custer guy. Any distant relation to George Armstrong Custer? That would fit perfectly. THAT Custer was a meglomaniac for sure. Terrible tactician as the results of Little Big Horn prove.

Never been to Huachuca, only know of it from you Army guys. At the time I was in, Good Buddy AFB or Meade were the joint services training schools, then off to on the job, real world hard lessons.

Goodfellow was pretty cool, middle of nowhere, Air Force and goat ropers. Ft Meade was a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to work there. One other place was JSPC at Torii Station in Okinawa.

I'd think that having a CO named Custer would give any of you the willies.

I assume the “Aunt Claudia” to whom we are referring here is LTG Claudia Kennedy. Her name had been bandied about as being the next DIRNSA. Fortunately, that scenario never materialized. I went to school at Goodfellow in 1960 and spent the next 37 years in the business.

Right in one. The old MI community always referred to the top spook as “Aunt” or “Uncle”.

Uncle Sidney (LTG Weinstein) had some baggage during his stay - his commissioned daughter was caught in bed with an enlisted member of the same sex, and was told privately to resign. uncle Sidney never quite recovered from that one.

You obviously, know about Aunt Claudia.

IRAQ NEWS, SUNDAY, JULY 25, 2004
I. UNWILLING VICTIMS, ABC NEWS, JUL 23
II. THE FIGHTING IN RAMADI, LAT, JUL 25

As ABC News, Jul 23, reported, regarding the violence in Iraq, the director
of intelligence for Central Command, Brig. Gen. John Custer, explained, “The
big myth is that the foreign fighters are everywhere, that there are
thousands,” Custer said. “My feeling is that that’s largely that Arab street
[spreading the myth]. That’s the story everybody wants to hear, and Iraqis
don’t want to admit that some of [the bombers] might be Iraqis.”

Biggs, our boy Custer LOVED his tour at Meade.

I get your drift. We were sent overseas for 18 mos at a time. Most all of it was in Danang and since we were a group that had limitations on the number of personnel in country, promotions were quick to offset the hardship and long hours and no liberty. When rotation rolled around, three of us, two Navy and a Marine, remained in Danang rather than head back to Meade. Saved my chevrons.......those who went to Meade suffered a loss for any minor manufactured offense. Salad envy usually the cause.

(Don't want to sound too negative.......there were a lot of good guys there too.)

>>Soon to be a story as some tried to tie her to Abu-Gharib.<<

Wasn’t a colonel who reported to her the highest ranking officer punished over Abu-Gharib? I think he was found to be physically present when a terrorist was tortured to death so its expected the press will bring up again what she knew or should have known about what went on in her command.

(BTW, General Fast was exonerated on the dereliction of duty charges after Colonel Pappas claimed she encouraged the abuse)
