It is a sad day for all who loved these strips for 50+ years, and for a truly giving and nice man.

Fitting he should pass today-a few years back he did an excellent Easter strip. It wasnt humorous at all, just acknowledgemnt of what the day meant..

Someone said of Cathy Seipp when she died that her death was our loss and Heaven’s gain.
I would say the same of Johnny Hart. Our loss. Heaven’s gain.

RIP for a guy who had the guts to stick up for his religious beliefs in the relentlessly secular little world of newspaper cartoons. His successors will be riding on the shoulders of a giant.

Thanks for the laughs Johnny.

Great artist and strip.
I`ve been searching for the perfect FR zot. It was from a Wizard of Id.First frame had soldier holding speer on gaurd duty.Second frame, lightening bolt hits him with bold letters above saying “ ZOT! “.Third frame, he`s a blackened figure. Last frame, charcoal soldier still standing says, “ZOT who?”
Now that strip woulda made the perfect FR Zot. Thing is, could never find it :-(
To: Shady
Great man, great stuff. Sad.

Not only a great cartoonist and a great Christian, but because of the anteater in “B.C.”, probably as responsible as anybody for the creation of the “ZOT!”
Easter weekend’s got to be a pretty good time to get to heaven. Hope he’s enjoying it.

Those are good ones, but the one I was referring to had BC sitting on a hill watching the sun rise or set, the last frame showed the reflection of te sun on the water in the shape of the cross...
To: Billthedrill
Johnny Hart was, in his own way, a proselyte of Christianity.
He shall be missed here, but after doing God’s work, he has gone home.

I read the strip every day for years. I hope it will continue for a while, even if they use “repeats.” I suppose the local paper will replace it with something not as good, or with some kind of left wing slant.

What a precious joyful ministry he had. I’m sure he led many to stop and think about his profound messages, and many more to Christ. I’m sure he’s already heard his “well done, thou good and faithful servant.” His cartoons were usually the only things worth reading in the newspapers.

I did not know that the same person created both of those strips. I never made the connection.
Whenever I had the occasion to look at them, I appreciated that the strips were always succinct.
(Gary Larson was another great one for that talent.)
When compared to Doonesbury, and others of that sort, Johnny Hart was a Giant, and a man with a heart.
RIP!

Ironic that he should die right before Easter when he was so good about getting true Christianity into his strip. Which never failed to “offend” his secular extremist newspapers. I thought he was great, and I’m Jewish.
Happy Easter to all my Christian FReeper FRiends! (Stay warm!)

Johnny Hart died, the creator of my two favorite comics on any morning.
I will never forget when Rodney says to the King, “The peasents are revolting.” and the king says, “You can say that again!”
I think he captured the thoughts of many political elites, right there in that cartoon. Where ever you are Johnny Hart, your strips were always revolting. I loved that about you.
