Burglar captured after losing leg
Daily Bulletin ^ | 4/10/07

Posted on 04/10/2007 6:51:19 PM PDT by NormsRevenge

POMONA -- A suspected burglar using a chain and pickup truck to steal an ATM from a market this morning failed to escape capture when his prosthetic leg fell off. Gregory Daniels, 48, was arrested on suspicion of burglary. A second man fled the scene and was not in custody.

The pair smashed a large glass window of the Pomona Ranch Market at 2277 N. Garey Ave. about 3 a.m., police said.

They used a chain and a truck to yank a bolted-down ATM from a concrete floor. Police came to the area and spotted the getaway car.

Officers followed the men into a residential neighborhood. The men drove onto a dead-end street and stopped. Police said one of the men escaped, but Daniels, who had tried to flee, was on the ground because his prosthetic leg fell off.

well, an islamic punishment would include lopping off the leg [the remaining one] which carried the scoundrel around, and then the hands which did evil. I’d think that lopping off the leg could be enough.

Whew! From the title and the first half of the first sentence, I was expecting to read that one of his natural legs was actually ripped off by the chain somehow. Glad the story wasn't THAT bloody!

But what an ijit! Next time he should use some Fixodent or sumpthin'.

Shucks- just reading the title, I thought he had the leg cut off when trying to steal the atm machine.

These guys apparently did not do good research - most if not all ATMs stolen in this manner over the years are found later abandonded with all the money still inside.

One must be prepaired to crack a safe (internal and very secure) after making off with the ATM box itself - usually bolted to the floor.

Get Nancy Pelosi on the phone now! The Americans with Disabilities Act certainly requires that a one-legged thief be at no disadvantage vis-a-vis a two-legged one. This is George Bush’s fault and needs investigating and prompt legislative remediation.

The guy was probably looking for an escape route and couldn’t find any - he was stumped as to what to do. I’m sure this made him hopping mad. The arresting officer was heard to say, “well now you don’t have much of a leg-I-see.”

About 1980 there was a labor dispute at an aggagate quarry near where I worked as a deputy sheriff. The manager was sleeping in his office when he heard noises near his dump trucks.

He went out, and confronted 3 guys cutting the air hoses on his trucks. Well, the fight began and during the scuffle, they all ended up on the ground, with one guy tugging on the manager’s leg.

The manager’s prosthesis came off, and the guy tugging on it fainted dead away. The second guy figured they’d killed the manager and fled a couple miles on foot to a gas station where he called the sheriff and said he thought they’d killed the manager by ripping his leg off.

When we got there, the manager was beating the crap out of the third guy, you guessed it, using his prosthesis as a club. We hooked up the two there, and went back to the gas station and picked up the third. After quitting the cops, I worked as a trucker out of that quarry with that manager. Semper Fi.
