Edwards On Imus Spat: 'I Believe In Forgiveness'
WCBSTV ^ | April 11, 2007 | Marcia Kramer, Reporting

Posted on 04/11/2007 9:17:48 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards' spoke exclusively to CBS 2 on Wednesday morning about the Don Imus and Rutgers University controversy, and though he feels Imus deserves a second chance, he wasn't so sure about his future on Imus' popular radio show.

Edwards' campaign trail took a stop in New York today where he worked side-by-side with health care aides in a Westchester nursing. There, he took time to talk to CBS 2 Political Reporter Marcia Kramer about the Imus fallout.

"I believe in redemption, I believe in forgiveness," Edwards said of Imus, who was suspended earlier in the week after calling the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy headed hos." Since then, Imus has repeatedly apologized for his comments and met with Rev. Al Sharpton, who called for the outspoken radio host's firing. Imus has also agreed to meet with the Rutgers team, who would not comment on whether or not they believed he should be fired.

Unlike candidates Rudy Giuliani and John McCain, who say they will continue to appear on Imus' radio show, Edwards says he hasn't seen enough from the shock jock to make that decision just yet.

"What he said is wrong because it's wrong. It has to be condemned, we have to speak out when people use this kind of language," Edwards said. "This is a very serious matter, it should be taken very seriously."

Edwards' visit was part of the "Work a Day in My Shoes" program sponsored by the influential Service Employees International Union, where presidential candidates spend time with health care workers to understand the challenges of their jobs. His wife Elizabeth, who is battling a recurrence of breast cancer, was not with him today.

"She's really doing very well, she's an amazing woman," he said.

Dangerous for a Southern politician, even one as liberal and effimate as former Senator Edwards, to defend an obvious bigot. Wonder why he is defending Imus?

Look for him to be cheering the firing tomorrow.

Well, his wife hates their poor, Republican neighbor because he has a gun and his yard is dirty.

That offense is unforgivable!

Right now I think that US Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-Indonesia) is the most dangerous man in the world, even more so than Iranian president Ahmadinnerjacket or crazy North Korean strongman Kim Jung Il. Why, you ask? Because neither one of them has a shot at controlling the US nuclear arsenal, and Obama does!!

Hey..you won’t find me disagreeing.

I have heard people that I NEVER thought would fall for that empty suit practically drool over him...and he is as socialist as they come.

BUT, we have GOT to make America wake up to the fact that Obama and Hillary and Edwards want to become the Commander in Chief of this country....but, they are too afraid to appear on FOX NEWS, fgs.

Also...you watch, Obama is going to be told that even though Sharpton and Jackson were calling for Imus’ head for days...it wasn’t until OBAMA called for his firing, that it happened.

Heaven help us all.

I heard this afternoon...after John McCain gave a speech warning of the danger of surrendering and quitting in Iraq...and blaming the dems of putting politics in front of national security...

Obama gave some snarky statement about how HE had the wisdom back in 2003 to know it wasn’t right to go to war in Iraq..and that Saddam didn’t have WMDS,...but, that McCain still doesn’t have the wisdom to know it is a lost cause.

THAT is pure cocky BS!

FGS, Imus hates Edwards; as far as I know, he’s never been on the show.

Obama and Hillary and Edwards want to become the Commander in Chief of this country....

And what, pray tell, do they all have in common?

Imus mocks them all, that's what.

This is a bit off topic, but did anyone catch the detestable Keith Olbermann on his own show or Al Franken on Larry King? They both used the Imus controversy to point to Rush, Sean, Glenn Beck, etc. as being the real problem. In other words, Imus is Rush, Rush is Imus.

Olbermann did his usual conflating and omissions of fact to ask the Rev. Jackson why he had not called for Rush, Beck and Savage to be fired since they are racists. (Translation, “hey, now that we have one scalp, maybe we can use this racism thing to silence those we disagree with like we did in the good old days!!!”) Of course, Olberman provided his usual assortment of out of context quotes and even quotes not related to race to disparage Rush et. al. Franken equated Imus with the poison airwaves, in other words, Rush and Glen Beck. He went on to tell Larry King he would fire Beck if he were in charge of CNN. If I were Glen, I would not count on CNN having him on too much longer. The cocktail party crowd is putting the heat on CNN.

Funny, Franken glanced over the fact that he appeared on the Imus show. Even better, never mind that Olberman was on the same network as Imus and never so much as condemned him for similar statements prior to this flap. Oh no, the real problem isn’t a guy who had a show every lefty leaning journalist lined up to appear on (hello David Gregory). No, the problem is really the poison airwaves caused by Rush.

These two men are the lowest form of scum on this earth. I hate to admit this, but I would love to meet Olberman and punch him in the face.
