The stars of a major Live 8-style concert to raise awareness of climate change have been condemned as hypocrites for failing to lead environmentally friendly lives themselves.

The likes of Madonna and Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform at Live Earth at Wembley Stadium on July 7, yet campaigners say they are among the least "green" individuals on the planet.

Looks like a battle could break out between the "real greens" and the "faux greens". Let me get the popcorn.

Right, the concert itself is green (which I highly doubt when all is said and done). But how much CO2 will be produced for the artists flying to perform at whichever venue they are performing at?

Fame whores all of them. Jumping on a bandwagon.

I love the comment from George from Oakland on that article. Please tell me he’s being sarcastic!!

I think RHCP fans know Flea isn't green. Anywhere.

washed up bands and performers trying to reach a new group of buyers will stoop to anything to make more money, they are nothing but greedy little leftists.

Hmmmm...what would a “green” rock concert look like? Well, they’d have to forgo the light and amplification system, so that means a strictly acoustic set.

I can envision a stadium of hippies straining to hear Madonna singing sans microphone: “Did she just say, ‘like a sturgeon’?”

A green concert couldn’t be in a stadium. They artist haven’t accounted for the carbon footprint of the fans who have traveled to the concert, the vendors hawking items made from across the globe, all the energy to run the stadium, etc.

To be the most green, the bands need to webcast from their own homes.

But that involves electricity. In fact anything anyone pretty much has was at least transported by something with a carbon footprint. So the only true green solution is to cancel the show and then kill oneself.

And don't forget the CO2 Fog Machines.
