KKK robe sent to Memphis councilman { Edmund Ford }

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) _ City Councilman Edmund Ford received a package containing a white Ku Klux Klan robe, and the council chairman wants police to investigate.

Ford received the package by special delivery Friday. He said he didn't want to dignify it with a response.

Ford, who is black, accused at least some of his fellow council members of racism Tuesday, saying, "Sometimes you might just have to get a white sheet."

The KKK robe came with a letter addressed to Ford that began: "Mr. Ford I believe you are in desperate need of a white sheet, so I took it upon myself to gift you with your very own bigot robe."

The letter said some of the robe's special insignia was added just for Ford. "You will see the yellow bands on the sleeves. The yellow symbolizes cowardice."

The author also described a patch on the robe that says "guilty" and goes on to write, "you Mr. Ford are guilty of the very bigotry and racial hatred that you accuse others of."

Council Chairman Tom Marshall thinks police should look into the matter. He also said he doesn't want the incident to re-ignite the strife among council members, instead hoping it will unify the group.

"I suspect that it was a joke, but in any case, it was a hateful joke and that's a joke that's not funny to me," Marshall said.

A real KKK robe? I wonder what it’s worth as a historical item- there can’t be too many real ones out there.

Experience had taught me that innocence seldom utters outraged shrieks. Guilt does. Innocence is a mighty shield, and the man or woman covered by it, is much more likely to answer calmly.... WHITTAKER CHAMBERS

That is exactly what I was going to suggest. Ford is as big of a racist biggot as ANY Klan member. He kind of opened himself up to this by his statement.

I personally think the “gift” is not only appropriate, but extremely funny!

Unify them on what, the wrong side of the law?

Since when did this become illegal? He's lucky no one's mailed a package of cottonmouths.

He might not want the investigation by the police as bad as he thinks he does. Might turn out to be a close friend or relative that sent it to him.

A few years ago one of our town councilmen was running for reelection. He came home one day and found a washing machine in his driveway with a sign that said "You are all washed up". He went into a rage. Called the local police and demanded an investigation. Being their boss he had to comply. Turns out his own son and a buddy were the ones that put the washing machine in his driveway.

How embarrassing for him! Turns out his son was right too. The liberal Democrat was soundly beaten in the election.

I’d guess that 50 years ago there’d be a few hundred thousand robes-n-hoods. Today I’d guess tens of thousands.

I’ve been around here and there and in the last decade or two I have never seen one worn.

Given Byrd in Congress, I suspect the need to show off has been made unnecessary.

What law was violated? Technically it's still legal to hurt a liberal's feelings.

Ford received the package by special delivery Friday.

"Special delivery"?? Who uses that term anymore?? What decade is he living in?? The only way one would see a reference to receiving a letter by "special delivery" would be by watching re-runs of 1930's movies, or maybe 1960's TV shows. I am not an expert, but I don't think you have been able to send or receive mail via "special delivery" for a LONG time. If he actually used the term "special delivery", he sounds like he is being overly-dramatic, and makes me wonder if this whole incident is fabricated. Otherwise, it was used by the idiotic journalist who wrote the story, who should know better.

Edmond Ford was the one that got caught in the FBI sting accepting bribes. He’s been howling racism and entrapment vehemently ever since.

When you are a Democrat and an elected offical does there have to be a crime for them to demand an investigation?

You can bet that had it been anyone besides his son they would have been charged with trespassing and littering at the very least.

Nope

John Ford is the former State Senator (from Memphis) caught by the FBI in the TN Waltz sting.

Edmund Ford is the Memphis City Councilman who ran up $16,000 in unpaid electrical bills (without having his power shut off). This was after Edmund lobbied heavily for Joseph Lee III to run the Utility company. Later, when the Council was voting on removing Lee, Edmund accused them of being like the KKK. That's what was behind the robe.

Both Fords are in the same corrupt family that sent Ophelia to Nashville using dead voters, and almost inflicted Harold Ford on the US Senate.

I noticed that this article did NOT mention that edmund ford called the chairman of the council a RACIST, that he edmund did NOT have a racist bone in his body...and was the first to mention the KKK in his triade against ousting the imcompentent joe lee, ceo of MLG & W...a king willie puppet.

Nor that he edmund was the receiver of favorable treatment on his electric bill...for several years...being allowed to rack up nearly a $20,000 bill for his several businesses...that because of this conflict of interest he should NOT have been in on the session concerning this issue.
