Dems Say They'll Get Their Way on Iraq

Sunday April 15, 2007 4:16 AM

By ANNE FLAHERTY

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats know they might lose this month's showdown with President Bush on legislation to pull troops out of Iraq. But with 2008 elections in mind, majority Democrats says it is only a matter of time before they will get their way.

Senior Democrats are calculating that if they keep the pressure on, eventually more Republicans will jump ship and challenge the president - or lose their seats to Democratic contenders.

``It's at least my belief that they are going to have to break because they're going to look extinction, some of them, in the eye,'' said Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., of his Republican colleagues.

Added Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.: ``We're going to pick up Senate seats as a result of this war.''

The House and Senate are expected to negotiate war spending legislation this week. The Democratic proposal would approve $96 billion in military money, mostly for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and set a timetable for troop withdrawal.

The House wants to end combat operations before September 2008; senators voted to set a nonbinding goal of ending combat by March 31, 2008.

As the final bill is negotiated, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Reid plan to meet with President Bush at the White House on Wednesday. They are expected to talk past each other, with Bush refusing to negotiate a timetable and Democrats insisting on one.

``I look forward to hearing how members of Congress plan to meet their responsibilities and provide our troops with the funding they need,'' Bush said Saturday in his weekly radio address.

Vice President Dick Cheney said in a television interview taped later Saturday that he believes

They’re so disgusting. Their only interest in national security is how they can play it to their advantage. I hope they lose, and lose BIG, next time around because they’ve made the American people so offended by their blatant power grabs and complete unwillingness to consider the nation’s interests first.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.: "We're going to pick up Senate seats as a result of this war."

That sums up their strategy rather nicely....

Why does Schumer think that we'd vote for Republicans who "break with the President"?

The treasonous libs need a MAJOR DEFEAT in Iraq. In total opposition to the needs of America and the fight against terror and Islamofascism. They are totally invested in defeat — their sick hatred for Bush has turned them into gross anti-military and anti-American enemies of core America. The recent law breaking of Pelosi is a classic example of this lawless attitude of these socialists. Sadly they conduct their lawless antics with impunity because of the gutless “opposition” that should be operating in favor of the interests of America -— strongly and with loud conviction.

What a joke — so Washington DC remains a town running out of control with the bad guys at the helm. A sorry situation.

I believe Americans want out of Iraq, but they want to leave as winners. I’d rather see President Bush send 1/2 million more troops if that is what is required to win.

Every time an American soldier falls in Iraq, Muslim jihadists and Democrats join hands and dance in the street.

Republican leadership seems too stupid to turn the democrats’ aiding and abetting the terrorists enemy into voters getting active to vote the treasonous bastards out of office.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.: “We’re going to pick up Senate seats as a result of this war.”

So.... He is really saying ....... We must pull out and lose the war, to pick up senate seats, even if it means the death of another 10000 American soldiers.

There is a certain hubris there - I wonder if it has occurred to Schumer that the Democrat stance on Iraq might end up losing them seats both in the House and in the Senate? If they overplay their hand and force a negative outcome in Iraq it almost certainly will. And the assumption that the Dems are absolutely fated to win the Presidency in 2008 strikes me as a case of willful blindness. Even if it may be described as theirs to lose (and I do not do so) then they may certainly manage to lose it, and this is the way to do that.

Reid must smile every time a military fatality is reported... believing the Dems are that much closer to absolute power.

He doesn’t give a cr*p about our troops, and that statement proves it.

Its also only a ‘matter of time’ before there is another Revolution in America — which will result in the discarding/removal/exiling of the Libertine (not Liberal as per the original definition of that word) Democrats and the other Leftists who threaten the country’s safety, prosperity
and freedom.

Unfortunately terrible things will have to happen before a movement to reform will begin which will clean the rot out of our country.

What the Democrats are trying to achieve will bring those terrible things to be all the sooner.

The problem is, the democrats "way" is to create a crushing defeat for America and an unconditional surrender to terrorists. The US won't easily recover from the democrat's "way"...and it's going to directly cause enormous death, likely in the hundreds of thousands.

You may be right. The sad thing is pulling our troops out at this point may put our asses in a bigger sling then keeping them there. I personally would rather see a build up and consolidation of forces and an invasion of Iran and Syria so we could get to the real a-holes who are sponsoring terrorism !!!

They've picked up everything they are going to pick up, because it is going to be over and the boys home before the next election. Why they can't see this particular freight train coming, when they have been screaming themselves hoarse asking for it to happen, is the great mystery.

Nah. The closer to the election the last US soldier leaves, the less time the Iraqi government needs to stand on its own two feet, and the less time the Democrats have to react and find a new issue to pretend to care about, before falling flat on their face.

August or September of 08 is the perfect time to leave.

Before it got accepted I had assumed that the man was deleting the republican responses. Evidentally he’s not. They are just letting the antiamerican lies be spewed without challenging him. Sad.
