was at LaGuardia the other day. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just the usual four-hour delay brought on by yet another of these April snowstorms Al Gore has arranged as a savvy marketing gimmick for his global warming documentary. Anyway, as always when you're at the gate for hours on end, there's nothing to do but watch CNN. I gather air traffic delays now account for 87 percent of CNN's audience. If it's just a routine holdup of two or three hours because the gate agent hasn't shown up, you know you'll be out of there before Wolf Blitzer's said goodnight. But, if it's something serious, like a light breeze at O'Hare, you know you'll be watching Larry King right through to the plug for tomorrow night's full hour with Tina Louise.
So I had the pleasure of sampling a typical evening's lineup of Don Imus coverage, from Wolf bringing us up to speed on the various networks that have fired him to Paula Zahn hosting a balanced panel of three African Americans and a guilt-ridden honky. It would have been a bad day for Ahmadinejad to drop the big one because nothing was going to prize CNN from their Imus-In-the-Morning-Noon-and-Night coverage.

Only in America: a team of champions who think they're victims, an old white fool who talks like a gangsta rapper and multi-millionaires grown rich on race-baiting who promote themselves as guardians of civility. Good thing there are no real problems to worry about.

Ouch. Excellent dig at CNN.
The man is brilliant.
There is no “I” in team./sarcasm
How could any individual be offended enough to have Al or Jesse speak for them. Where are their attorneys? /sarcasm
Anti-truth, anti-freedom COLLECTIVE BUMP!
I can't help but wonder if it is true. Since our local dish provider came out with the "Family Pack" offering Fox News in place of CNN, airport delays are the only time I've watched CNN except for Glenn Beck.
Good article. They are referred to as “champions” and “queens of basketball,” but the Lady Vols won the championship. That fact doesn’t change the points made, however. They should have enough self confidence at some point to simply blow off Imus.
I’m surprised that announcers are permitted to relay the news that the Hawaiian singer Don HO has died.
I don't know..but this ol white man is offended every time i see those 2 clowns....see enough of their dog and pony shows and anybody would start to get a little racist...
Yep, Mark Steyn has got to be one of the sharpest columnests around these days. True to form, he makes some excellent points.
Personally I’m no fan of Imus and never was. I’ve always regarded him as a self-important bore, so I found this thing called a “dial” on my radio and turned it to another station. Somebody should inform not-so-Sharpton and his gang of race-baiting idiots that they are free to do the same.
As for the spineless wussies at CBS & NBC, they made it quite clear they were firing Imus not because of what he said but because of what others said ABOUT him. Initially they had stated that a 2-week suspension would suffice. They only pulled the plug after the “Reverends” Al and Jesse cried foul - for weeks on end. Meanwhile I won’t hold my breath waiting for Sharpton to get the axe for his own vile race-mongering.
One last thing: Steyn is soooo right in implying that racism is alive and well in this country and it’s only changed in form. A washed-out white jerk has his career abruptly ended because he uttered a stupid, degrading term. Meanwhile, that same stupid, degrading term (and others, such as the “n” word) are fully accepted - and even glorified - when uttered by the pigmentationally enhanced. Talk about double standard!
OK, rant over - you can wake up now! But seriously, that column hit so many hot buttons.
As usual, he nails it on the head.
My parents taught me at age five to respond to playground bullies with the “sticks and stones” comeback. Someone should tell these basketball players that they are big girls and don’t need to cry over some idiot calling them a childish name (to which they may well have remained happily oblivious if Sharpton and his media friends hadn’t been screaming about it for weeks).
That's rich.
God, he's good.

What gets lost in all this is the implicit attack on New Jersey. African Americans are overrepresented on ALL basteball teams. Why single out Rutgers for his slur? Because it’s in New Jersey. New Jersey: The last acceptable prejudice.
I suggested to a friend that his lobby TV show Turner Classic Movies instead of CNN. I think his customers might actually enjoy it.
I knew NJ was good for something
Ha ha!
This line reminds me of the following Little Rascals scene:
TEACHER: Buckwheat, can you use the word 'Isthmus' in a sentence?
BUCKWHEAT (smiling): Isthmus be my lucky day!
Friday night, some talk show on WGN Radio was going over the Imus thing and mentioned that the context of the remark dealt with a comparison of the Tennessee team, which Imus called "cute", and the characterization of the Rutgers girls.
So, I've been wondering, has anybody seen the pictures or TV show that Imus used to determine that the Rutgers girls were or looked like what he called them? It just feels like everybody has granted immediate victim status to these people, and I am just a little skeptical of the media.
LOL! Hits the spot!
This is the saddest part of the entire thing.

Steyn points out the obvious in a bitingly funny way, and so gets to publish it. Free speech is still allowed, as long as it’s funny enough!
Pure genius. I'm so glad he's on our side. He is, the most brilliant writer on the scene today.
The worst example of the CNN thing. My husband goes to the VA in San Diego. While waiting in the testing office, they show the CNN news. So, we’re in the VA and all you hear is how bad the war is going. It’s almost surreal.
And I still challenge Moonves to support his statements by purging all things CBS of the b/f/h/n/n/... words.
The waiting room at a doctor’s office that I go to has a huge flat screen TV showing CNN constantly. And 90% of the chairs in the room are facing the TV. I take a book and sit in one of the few that doesn’t.
It’s just mind numbing garbage, IMO.
The Reverends know how to play the game.
Speak of free speech! Did you see the ad at the bottom of the article selling “I Love Nappy Headed Ho’s” Teeshirts? I have to get one of those.
True for this white guy.
Can't avoid 'ho', but nappy...can't say that I've heard that recently until Imus.
>>. They should have enough self confidence at some point to simply blow off Imus.
They pretty well did, and accepted his apology. It was Sharpton and Jackson mobilizing people to write Imus’ advertizers, that resulted in the firings. It wasn’t anything the girls did, I don’t believe. They’ve been the only ones showing any class at all in this whole kerfluffle.
But, Rutgers, at least, is in the driver's seat, belted up, and driving 90. They are getting what they want and playing this for every PR and recruiting dollar that can be pumped out of the well.
>>Can’t avoid ‘ho’, but nappy...can’t say that I’ve heard that recently until Imus.
First appeared in cracker consciousness with Stevie Wonder’s 1976 hit single “I Wish”, from the album “Songs in the Key of Life”, which starts:
Looking back on when I
Was a little nappy headed boy
And by the way, I’m a cracker, so by PC rules, I can say cracker. And I’ll jump in your case, if you’re not, and do so, just to be an *hole.
I must have missed that press conference. Thankfully. Was it before, or after, the firings?
Incomprehensible response, sorry.
I made the mistake of watching Paula Zahn’s program once. The show was a hand wringing PC fest centered on the how racist white people are. Zahn feels really guilty about something.
That was actually the context of the Imus and crew discussion, which obviously blew up in their face. They were commenting on how cute and classy the Vol girls looked in comparison to the brutish-looking Rutgers gals. There was an illusion to a Spike Lee film which had a b-ball game with a team called the jigaboos. Un-PC to be sure, but in the context of parody, satire and comedy. Whitey can’t do that however. Now you can have black comics all day long doing their fake-whitey voice and making fun of having tiny wieners, being dumb, etc and that’s high humor.
Mark Steyn is awesome.
YouTube mocking of PC -— http://youtube.com/watch?v=Sy9V4o22V78
You said they were playing the victim. I said I must have missed that press conference, and wondered whether it occurred before or after the firings. What’s so hard to understand?
Maybe the cheating on her husband?

They were victims of an uncalled for personal attack.
Imus should've played the "parody" card and stuck to his guns when the fit hit the shan. Unartful and politically incorrect parody, but parody nonetheless. He may very well have kept his gigs had he done so.
Anyway, now you have explained and demanded. Here, I, Genie bvw, bring forth your wish:
Youtube's Lady Knight's Press Conference Part I"
At 4:00 "We have been so hurt by the remarks of Mr. Imus."
At and after 7:40: " ... I was hurt ... " and following commentary of being a victim.
OK, I’ll try to remember that you don’t follow a threaded conversation well, and get all hurt when it’s pointed out.
So you knew they were whiners, without seeing that?
It looks like, from the date, this was before the firings, and before the primary two race huslers were involved, so OK, they’re definitely whiners. I could understand it better, if it had occurred after they’d been “coached” by the actions of NBC, CBS, Jackson, and Sharpton. Hence my question.
Hard to follow a threader with loose threads. JJ and AS were on the MML, as was the RAD and the RWBBC, ten fore. No timeline needed.
Oops, MML = MMML. QED.
