VICTIMS OF A WITCH HUNT -- MANY TORMENTORS IN DUKE STUDENTS' YEAR OF SMEAR
New York Post ^ | 4/15/7 | LISA KEYS

Posted on 04/15/2007 8:54:45 AM PDT by SmithL

April 15, 2007 -- WHEN the three lacrosse players accused of sexu ally assaulting an exotic dancer were declared innocent Wednesday, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper said the Duke University students were victims of a "rush to accuse" by a "rogue prosecutor."

But Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong was far from the only one pointing fingers at Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and David Evans.

The wild accusations of the lacrosse players' guilt began within weeks of police finding the dancer passed-out drunk in her car in the early hours of March 14, 2006.

Crystal Gail Mangum, then a 27-year-old single mother and escort-service worker who attended North Carolina Central University, told them she had been raped, sodomized and beaten while working a party at 610 North Buchanan Blvd., a house rented by the three captains of Duke's lacrosse team.

By March 24, although the victim had not been able to identify any of her accusers and it had been revealed that she'd made a false claim of rape as a teenager, Nifong ordered DNA swabs from the 46 white lacrosse players.

On April 10, it was revealed that no DNA matches had been made with the players. But then:

* On April 15, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow/PUSH Coalition stepped in,...

* Al Sharpton told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly...

* On May 2, the New Black Panther Party came to town and marched...

A vigil was held to show solidarity with the accuser by some 200 Duke students and faculty members,

What will be truly interesting is if the tenured vigilantes on the Duke Staff are to be held civilly liable. Wont that be a fun circus to watch.

The media could have stopped this at any time if they had been willing to ask hard questions of Nifong—like, when did DNA stop being a reliable indicator of innocence?

Or, had they asked hard questions of the accuser (who was still pole-dancing at the Palladium while candle light vigils were being held for her outside the house)

Instead, the press loved this story—and hated the defendants (if you don’t think so, check out the adjectives used to describe them; these weren’t typical college kids; these were fairy-tale monsters you could use to frighten your children)

This has been ‘Scottsboro II’, with only the colors reversed, and no Judge Horton around to stand up for the truth and justice.

gee, where’s the black woman holding the sign screaming her blackness??

Nothing but a bunch of white self-haters in that pic.

But, if haters really hated themselves, and being haters they just gotta be liberals, and being liberals they just want to kill everything they hate, a question is posed: Does the law against suicide really prevent self-haters from killing themselves or are they all just confused?

I wonder if the media jump on the Imus story with such a frenzy in part to avoid or diminish the Duke case - a case that surely deserves far more outrage.

Will the lacrosse players be appearing tonight on "60 Minutes"?

The MSM coverage of this has been incredible. Did the Lib Tim Russert even mention the Duke case on “Meet the Press”? It seems to me that NBC and the rest of the MSM are more concerned with what Imus said than the false accusations against the Duke lacrosse players.

Shame on Fox and others for giving these scum a platform to spew their bigotry.

Sure it does. He saw an opportunity to embellish his own prosecutorial reputation, characterize himself as an ethical crusader against racism and white privilege, and to increase his chances for re-election. I’m my view a disturbingly high percentage of politicians are driven by their need to be special and to show the world how important they are. Hillary is a perfect example. These types of people would not be satisfied if what they purport to support went forward without them getting the credit. It’s highly ego driven.

There’s a lot of blood in the water on this one, and Duke and the city of Durham are looking at legal liabilities big enough to shut both of them down. The potential is there for having the entire liberal power structure at a major university basically decapitated.

It would be a great day if they actually had to pay a price for their hit and run smear, but we know that these people never do. They are free to ignore facts and constitutional principles that do not conform to their ideologies. “after all” they would claim, “even if it wasn’t true in this case, we’re still right...” These are truly nauseating individuals, who not only wouldn’t give their own the benefit of the doubt, but ignored sacred American tenets to stab the accused in the back. Damn them to hell.

I’ve always wondered if he, his staff, or members of the police force were customers of hers. I followed the case closely for nine months, and the chief of police conveniently “disappeared.” The reason was that his “mother was sick.” We FReepers found that a bit odd.

Not just the three students, but the entire LaCrosse team and the coach as well. The coach has grounds to make himself independently wealthy.

I hope Brodhead is made to pay personally for his culpability.

I wondered the same thing. There had to be more. After his win, Nifong could easily have dismissed the case. Instead, he deliberately, knowing the players were innocent, continued. And who are the men whose DNA was found on Crystal? A great cover-up there.

the reason these two keep going is that because they are BLACK, and loud, they get a pass on everything,
if they were WHITE and uttered those words about a black man who turned out to be falsely accused, they would have their credibility trashed, they’d be apologizing to whomever would listen (see imus), and then vilified
and fired anyway

until, they are treated equally to us lowly white americans, an held to high standards, they never will get their just rewards

Actually, I have read elsewhere that he needed about 3-1/2 more years to vest for a pension.

However, one of the people running to be the DA was a women who he was on the outs with and who would probably not have kept him on if she won.

Thus, the need to run to be “reelected” DA. OH, and the white boys be dammed.

I hope he, and Durham county, are sued for every cent they are worth. And then a little bit more.

Indeed. The media and various talking heads are completely and undeniably implicit in the character asassination of the Duke lacrosse team via their silence in Nifong's about-face. No DNA linking the suspects? No problem, we'll do it "the good old-fashioned way" instead.

In the quickly-famous "Daily Show" video from Thursday ripping Nancy Grace a new one, they noted her about-face on the importance, oops, the unimportance, of DNA evidence in a violent rape case.

If you're referring to Nifong then you just haven't been paying attention.

He was about to lose his career by being beaten in the Dem primary for the prosecutor position. He needed the minority vote and he wasn't expecting to get it.

His opponent was a former prosecutor that Nifong had fired from the office when Nifong was recently appointed to fill the position, so Nifong had a good guess what would happen to himself if and once he lost the election.

So he had all the motivation in the world -- it's called self-preservation.

Is there a thread talking about the 60 minutes interview?

I still think Nifong was being blackmailed or is as crazy as Crystal. Not even trying to keep his job would make most people sink so low-—and without a rational hope of succeeding.

I sent this email to one of these “professors” one Kim Curtis:

Schadenfreude. I never really appreciated the nuances of this word until I beheld the burgeoning fallout from this imbroiglio. I LOVE to see liberals like you hoisted on the petard of Political Correctness, racial identity politics, gender determinint feminism and what I have coined as “Tawana Brawley Syndrome”.

TBS exists when one takes a historical reality such as the marginalization of innocent blacks within a once overtly racist criminal justice syndrome or the past subjagation of women or any number of other offenses and attempts to apply that to a contemporary situation wherein the objective facts don’t apply; ala OJ Simpson, Rodney King, Anita Hill etc.

None of this would have happened to you if you had taken the time to sift thru the facts and objectively apply them rather than stuffing them into cliched dialectic “meta-narratives” of classist white male exploitation of an oppressed black woman with echoes of plantation sexual abuse.

Aside from the fact that petty tyrants like you have turned US college campuses into little ivy covered North Koreas, I suspect that you were seeking to appropriate PC bonus points and obtain instant moral authority by championing the cause of the “other” (marginalized black exotic dancer) against racist male chauvinist members of the privileged white elite. A case of cultural Marxist Class warfare that boomeranged. GOD how I love it so!!!!!

Even though I despise the racial identity politics that mindlessly multicultural cultural Marxists like you have fostered amongst my people to our ultimate detriment, I would like to state that I am a black man living in the heart of Chicago’s South Side ghetto, who values the rule of law and truth as best as it can be objectively and humanly determined.

It would be fitting if they get a pretty penny from you.
