High Taxes Deter Weidmann Plant Expansion In Vermont

Business at Weidmann Electrical Technology in St. Johnsbury is booming. So much, the company is looking to expand its operations.

But that expansion will not take place in Vermont due to high taxes and a strong impression by investors that Vermont is unfriendly to business, according to a letter sent April 2 by John Goodrich, vice president and general manager of Weidmann Technology.

"The paradox of the situation is this: we are extremely busy but are unable to expand in Vermont," ...

Vermont needs to decide if it indeed wants to encourage in-state businesses to expand and new industry to locate here, Goodrich said.

“Six sites were being considered and Vermont came in as second choice to Switzerland...”

The other 4 must have been CA, NY, NJ, and MI.

The present Socialist government of NH wants to make NH a second Massachusetts.

Vermont went to hell when the hippies established a commune in Island Pond. You had to know Vermont before 1967, I loved the place, St Jay and the Northeast Kingdom.

I am hoping that will not happen. No real moves toward an income or sales tax has started yet, and redistricting is coming up. Usually the straight ballots help the R but they went with the D’s last time.

Actually, Wisconsin is the second Massachusetts and if Doyle gets his way our taxes will go up over 3 billion next year.

Go down to your local State Reps house with a sign, "No More Taxes". Go there every day that you are able, talk to your neighbors and get them to do the same thing.

Go to Madison and confront them, pols are cowards they go with the flow

Is it just a coincidence that Vermont has twice elected an avowed socialist (Bernard Sanders) to represent them in Congress.

By George I’ve got it! Relocate to Mexico and become a Mexican citizen. Then illegally enter the U.S. and re-relocate back in the U.S. You won’t have to pay any taxes and yet as an illegal alien you will be entitled to Constitutional protections, food stamps, free medical care etc.

That seems like an awful lot of straight tickets. Typically they are only in the tens of thousands; NH only has a million plus people.

More proof that high taxes, red tape and aggressive regulation kills more jobs than “free trade”.

Don't forget they also elected Howard 'Screamin'" Dean as their Governor.

The company has been a solid contributor to the economic well-being of this area, Goodrich said. In the past 25 years, the company has paid over $250 million in wages, he said.

“We offer stable, solid jobs with good pay and benefits,” Goodrich said Friday. “This has been a tremendous benefit to the state.”
