WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney says he is "willing to bet" that Democratic lawmakers will back down and approve a war-spending bill that doesn't call for U.S. troops to leave Iraq. Top Democratic leaders shot back that Cheney has lost all public credibility.
With President Bush and Congress in a stalemate he plans to veto legislation that orders U.S. troops home, which the House and Senate plan to send him both sides are looking ahead. In an interview broadcast Sunday, Cheney predicted the Democrats will blink.
He said Congress will end up passing a "clean" bill that funds the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without any troop withdrawal timetables. Democrats control Congress, but they do not appear to have the votes to override a presidential veto.
"They will not leave the troops in the field without the resources they need," Cheney said of the Democrats.
Asked what would happen if they don't back down, Cheney said: "I'm willing to bet the other way that, in fact, they will."
"There may be some people who are so irresponsible that they wouldn't support that," Cheney said. But the majority will send Bush the bill he wants "once they've gone through the exercise and it's clear the president will veto the provisions that they want in," he said.

BREAKING NEWS:Bush finds veto pen
I find it humerous that they are accusing him of having no public credibility.
For starters, they’re the ones claiming to support the troops with all evidence pointing to the contrary. At this point, if they don’t fund them, I suppose they support them in a figurative pat-on-the-back-across-the Atlantic-and-the-deserts-of-the-Middle-East-way. Because they certainly aren’t financially doing it. And they certainly aren’t supporting the mission that every single soldier in the military signed up knowing that he or she was undertaking. No, they’re undercutting that with every passing day.
And the other bit of humor in that is that they said that Cheney has no more PUBLIC credibility. Why the distinction and just not credibility? Well, I’m sure it wasn’t intended, but there is a distinction, and no matter how much they try to smear the man, you can’t take away a man’s credibility—he has to give it away.
The Democrats set out to convince the American people that the Bush team is a bunch of liars. The Bush Whitehouse never fought back, and now at least have of all Americans believe that they lied about WMD.
The Bush Whitehouse never fought back....
Sorry for the off-topic but you should read Fred Thompson's interview from Weekly Standard.

On page two he essentially makes the case that Bush for some unknown reason can't communicate which lets the liberals walk all over him.
Unfortunately this is true. Much as I love Bush and his policies, the man is not a very persuasive speaker. Thankfully Hillary is an even worse speaker. I can’t fathom hearing that screechy voice for the next 4 years.
Well, Bush said himself “I admit it, I am not one of the great linguists”. But at the same time, you don’t need to be a great linguist in order to be able to defend your policies... it’s disappointing.
Oh, and I agree totally on Hillary’s voice. It actually gives me a headache whenever I hear it.
Amazing how every time anyone speaks soundly of policy the people (some/mdeia)oppose. Amazing how quiet it gets a few points (facts/logic)later. I am the American people. I listen to debate. VP is really intellectual if (American People/Ha!)pay attention. (sarc/american people...media thing)POTUS could/should issue “Slam Cards”. IMHO.
