When the Gipper died, they had to get power-lifters [power weight lifters] from each of the services...

I believe that had more to do with the size and weight of the coffin itself and not what was in it. That was no simple pine box Reagan was put to rest in. It had more metal in than most late model cars have.

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

That sure worked. /s

In June, Tech's governing board approved a violence prevention policy reiterating its ban on students or employees carrying guns and prohibiting visitors from bringing them into campus facilities.

Only 21 dead so far. Let's give this a chance, people. /s

A school with a vaunted Cadet Squad and a ‘no-carry’? Did they practice with broomsticks?

Since the gun-grabbers are making political hay out of this we might as well. This quote and story needs to be sent to the every victim's family.

And don't forget to add one little P.S. to the quote and story:

Title 18 United States Code, U.S. Criminal Code
PART I, CHAPTER 13, SECTION 242
Deprivation of rights under color of law

Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both;

and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.

“Drunken college kids with loaded weapons? I don’t think so.”

Living in a gun-friendly state like Arizona must scare you to death.

This is going to rank right up there with Chamberlin's,

"Peace in our Time"

Actually, I take this article as progress.

Dude - the article is dated January - the shootings happened TODAY...how is this "progress?"

As I said, when a legislator can propose something like this without getting railroaded completely out of town, that's worth something. Not that that did the VT students any good today, but maybe if we keep pushing it will do them some good down the road.

>Living in a gun-friendly state like Arizona must scare you to death.

It almost scared me a couple of years ago when it was attempted to permit carrying weapons into bars. I’m all for carrying weapons during general every day activities and what not, but I just think there also needs to be a wall placed between booze and social gathering. I don’t think the two will mix anymore then drinking and driving does. So a bar owner should be able to say NO GUNS allowed.

“So a bar owner should be able to say NO GUNS allowed.”

Especially when that “guns-free school zone” thing works so well.
