REAGAN LUSTED FOR THE PRESIDENCY. He was out there campaigning full-time for the job between 1976 and 1980.

Reagan's greatness aside, lusting after the Presidency is not a positive in my view, and probably not in the view of most Americans.

Hi, Jellybean!

I still wish to receive the daily pings, if you’re still going to continue with a pinglist!

Thanks.

“In those days, that is the way they ran. But if you think Jefferson wasn’t working like crazy behind the scenes, then you are very mistaken. There was quite a fight with Aaron Burr, and Jefferson was politically ruthless in that fight.”

Well it took him time and it readily apparent, because he really didn’t desire it. But yes, Jefferson did work hard at getting it. He was a master at appear one way, and very indirect in disarming his political opponents.

Ironically it was Alexander Hamilton’s hatred of Aaron Burr that gave his nemesis Jefferson the presidency.

“Lincoln did not even attend the Republican convention of 1860.”

Lincoln didn’t have to do much. The democrats were so split apart over slavery...they were destine to lose. Media was different throughout that time, plus for quite a period of time the requirements were that you were 1)A white male 2)You owned land.

Jefferson and Adams only got 80K votes altogether. The population was smaller obviously, but our government at the time really hinged upon those whom owned land and were white. Since they owned land, and for a great period of time it was mandatory to read the bible (thus high literacy rates)...they voted according to what to they read, and knew.

“I agree that Jefferson was one of the best presidents in history. Why the liberals still claim him, I have not a clue.”

Mostly misperceptions on what he meant on religion. He also wasn’t a big fan of a large military, but at that time we had a sea between our potential enemies...so the context is understandable.

Oh yeah, and democrats think they are the guardians of science....THEY think they are. Jefferson loved science and reason, but then again he wasn’t adopting it to make political gestures; he was liking it because it existed independently of politics.

Please continue to ping me.

I see no cause for them to cease. You are not being insensitive in posting them. They are not related to the shootings in any manner. And as harsh as it sounds, life goes on.

The newspapers will continue to cover other stories in the news today. Why shouldn’t you be allowed to cultivate any of their information regarding Thompson and pass it along?

I would be wary of any calls to cease. What could their motivation be in asking you to do so? I see no logic in this.

I am one that is waiting for Fred Thompson to enter the race, but there are two races that must be won.

First the party nomination (September 2008), and then the Fall Election in November 2008; events that are 17 and 19 months hence.

I suspect Senator Thompson is keeping his powder dry.

There are going to be a lot of losers between now and the primaries. Some of the republican hopefuls are carrying a lot of baggage, Newt, Rudy, not to mention others.

There is going to be a lot of carnage before this is even half over. Better to stay above the fray. Besides, America loves when the cavalry and their hero rides in just before the worst moment and saves the day.

Hopefully, the Senator will be blessed in his timing.

Leadership in a campaign that doesn’t exist yet? How do you propose he does that? And why does he have to declare his run according to your schedule? It is EXTREMELY early in this artificially long election cycle.

If Hillary Clinton wasn’t running, this cycle wouldn’t have started yet. Her campaign NEEDS to run early and harder than most. She has a lot of faults to overcome.

And she and the media wish to portray her not only as overcoming those faults, but also as beating one difficult opponent who doesn’t truly exist, yet. Obama is a light-weight, but her people wish to portray her as his greatest adversary. This illusion gives her gravitas in the eyes of the media.

“So far, I haven’t seen a whole lot of leadership in the way he has conducted himself insofar as running a campaign. Floating a trial balloon and then sticking your finger in the wind is hardly leadership.”

Well, he’s doing pretty damn good for someone who IS NOT OFFICALLY RUNNING A CAMPAIGN. Not a single red cent spent or any campaining but yet he’s rated 2nd. For now, you don’t have to see. When it comes time to vote for Thompson or Hillary, I do hope you make the correct decision!

One nice thing about Fred Thompson’s “unannounced” run for the Presidency is that he is not being called on today to renounce his position against gun control. Every announced candidate is being buffaloed by the gun-grabbers and their allies in the MSM in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, and forced to take a position in the heat of the moment. Fred, on the other hand, can just let the wave go by, and maintain his principled position once cooler heads have prevailed.

Maybe he should never announce. Just run.

Fred Thompson is not the second coming of Ronald Reagan. Reagan was great, but only one man ever gets a repeat engagement...

But Fred Thompson is the first coming of Fred Thompson. And that could be a pretty great thing, if everything falls into place. He has the gift of communication and plain speaking, and could be as effective as Reagan was. He is right on the issues, and is in the right place at the right time.

I think due to the Virginia Tech shootings. Perhaps the thought is to set politics aside for a few days.

The Virginia Tech shootings are going to effect the political climate. If we don't discuss politics in this context, you can bet your boots the gun-grabbers will. It is not the time to leave the field.

Okay... I thought perhaps I was being insensitive about how traumatized people were concerning the shootings. I don't watch TV so am not as easily manipulated by the media images. I did hear about the shootings on the radio, but quite frankly I was very busy yesterday with work and trying to finish my taxes. I wasn't paying close attention so I thought perhaps I had missed the new 9/11.

I would be wary of any calls to cease. What could their motivation be in asking you to do so? I see no logic in this.

Perhaps the person who FReepmailed knows someone who attends VT. For now I will remove them and continue with the pings.
