Va. Tech Gunman Named
By Michael Shear and Debbi Wilgoren Washington Post Staff Writers Tuesday, April 17, 2007; 9:36 AM
Virginia Tech officials today identified the Virginia Tech student who killed 32 people and then himself on the Blacksburg campus yesterday as 23-year-old Cho Seung-Hui of Centreville.
Cho was a South Korean native who had immigrated to this country, the university announced on its Web site this morning. He was a senior majoring in English, and lived in a dorm on campus, officials said.

Is the WaPo a credible source or did they quote a news conference? As of lst night, they had identified the shooter as a Chinese national.
Ausrtalia and Poland really are our only allies

Cho’s identitiy has been confirmed with a positive fingerprint match on the guns used in the rampage and with immigration materials. It is believed that he was the shooter in both incidents yesterday. Sources say Cho was carrying a backpack that contained receipts for a March purchase of a Glock 9 mm pistol, sources said. Witnesses had also told authorities that the shooter was carrying a backpack.

Where did he learn to shoot this well? Handgunning isn’t a ‘natural act’ and its pretty clear he was a good shot. I doubt he acquired this level of skill in a couple of weeks.
Media are a bunch of dopes. First the guy’s Chinese. Next he’s here on a student visa, yet not a Va Tech student. Now he’s South Korean and a student. They can blame the Tech leadership to no end, yet can misreport everything with impunity. Asswipes.
And these slogans such as “Massacre at Virginia Tech” and the like just drive me nuts.
I guess we can have a “who can hold their breath the longest” contest as we await spontaneous street demonstrations of US citizens marching and near-rioting, demanding the withdrawal of Koreans from the US. I’m sarcastically referring to the accidental roadside deaths of two S. Korean children some years ago from a swerving US military vehicle.
I think the “receipt in the backback” angle is a little too cute.
So he was here on a VISA or Green Card.
The man who, on that other forum, claimed to be the seller to this person, was telling the truth.
Proofread people.... proofread!
Obviously pure speculation on my part, but Centreville has a big problem with gangs, including Asian gangs.
Your headline is grossly misspelled, newbie.
Yes, my thought exactly. Sure I keep receipts for over 2 weeks in my backpack. Just want to make sure I can exchange the gun later for something that fits./Sarcasm!
Article further stated he was from Centreville. There are a number of shooting ranges within the Centreville area, notably the NRA facility and Blue Ridge Arsenal. Wouldn’t be surprised if he shot at one or both of them. Not to mention the Blacksburg area.....
In this case it appears they happen to be correct.
Gunman was student, Va. Tech president confirms

Associated Press & 13News
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia Tech student was behind the massacre of at least 30 people locked inside a campus building in the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history, the university said Tuesday.
Cho Seung-Hui, 23, a senior and native of South Korea, was enrolled in the undergraduate program as an English major.
He was a resident alien from Centerville, VA and lived in Harper Hall, officials said.
They also announced that a 9mm and .22 caliber handgun were recovered from Norris Hall. Ballistics from shootings at Norris Hall and West Ambler -Johnston Hall show one of the two weapons was used in both shootings.
SNIP
“Well, I’m screwed. They found a receipt in the gunman’s pocket indicating that he bought the gun from me in March. ATF is at my shop right now. See you later, I’m on my way to the shop right now.”

We probably won’t know anything close to the real truth for at least a couple more days, if not weeks.
Amen....a little too cute. Hey, we have NOTHING against the S. Koreans, let’s make him a S. Korean!
It’s on the VA Tech home page.
Someone was in a hurry to be first to post.
NOVA Asian gangs are predominantly Vietnamese.
we did indeed have his first name correct last night
Parents live here, too, Laz. He’s the child of immigrants.
So ,of course, ABC botched the “two suspects” story last night.
“Obviously pure speculation on my part, but Centreville has a big problem with gangs, including Asian gangs.”
I have no idea about that aspect. I will say its very unusual to read of a gang member committing this kind of attack on a random group.
Given we know he was a student, that makes a ‘gang connection’ highly unlikely as it relates to the shootings yesterday...but you never know.
Yep...nice and tidy, isn’t it?
“Where did he learn to shoot this well?”
Video games....
We have a real psycho here. I wish somebody would have capped him before he started firing. Definitely, he does not belong in this world.
As the Church Lady would say, “How conveeeeenient!”
“You shot him in a rit of fealous jage!”
“Article further stated he was from Centreville. There are a number of shooting ranges within the Centreville area, notably the NRA facility and Blue Ridge Arsenal. Wouldnt be surprised if he shot at one or both of them. Not to mention the Blacksburg area.....”
Not to mention its ‘normal’ for people to target shoot throughout the Appalachian region. I’m in southeast Ohio. Around here, they think you are ‘odd’ if you don’t target shoot from your porch...(chuckle)
Evil bastard.
So either the story is tidy, meaning it’s an obvious conspiracy and coverup.
Or it’s messy, meaning it’s an obvious conspiracy and coverup.
I agree, but they also failed to point out his recent purchase for “Deadly Accuracy with a Pistol on only one month” at WAL-MART.
The two shootings were related.
“Ballistics tests also show that one of the guns inside that building was used in another shooting two hours earlier, at a dorm, Virginia State Police said.”

Up close you don’t need to be a skilled marksman.
Just about everyone shot at close range, other than those who were murdered thru the door of their classroom.
You are being too kind. But, I understand. If we said what we truly wanted to say on here, we would be immediately banned for the foul language!!!
Stupid phingers.....
Not according to the gun shop owner, who saw his paperwork. He correctly identified the kid's name as 'Cho' (alibet transposing the first and last names -- easy with such a foreign nomenclature) well before this morning.
""Well, I'm screwed. They found a receipt in the gunman's pocket indicating that he bought the gun from me in March. ATF is at my shop right now. See you later, I'm on my way to the shop right now."
[...]"Call BS all you like, but I just spent the last several hours with 3 ATF agents. I saw the shooter's picture. I know his name and home address. I also know that he used a Glock 19 and a Walther P-22. The serial number was ground off the Glock. Why would he do that and still keep the receipt in his pocket from when he bought the gun? ATF told me that they are going to keep this low-key and not report this to the tv news. However, they cautioned that it will leak out eventually, and that I should be ready to deal with CNN, FOX, etc. My 32 camera surveillance system recorded the event 35 days ago. This is a digital system that only keeps the video for 35 days. We got lucky. By the way, the paperwork for Mr. Cho was perfect, thank God."
"[...]Mr. Cho had proof of Virginia residency, checkbook (for a second ID), and his green card(which is, of course, not green). That is all he needed to purchase a handgun."
It’s time to ban the NRA, shooting ranges and guns in general again.
Lotta folks were calling b.s. on that guy (I had my doubts as well)... But he was right on - referred to Mr. Cho...
Speculation - most South Korean males must undergo military training due to the ongoing situation with North Korea... could be Cho was X - South Korean military?
The spelling police are out in force.
(chuckle)
Nothing prepares you for the ‘real thing’. I’ll guess you know this. Thats why LEO’s accuracy is well below fifty percent in any shooting.
Way below fifty percent. And rarely ‘fatal’.
This guy, however...well, the butchers bill speaks to his skill with a semi auto handgun.
So we’re eventually going to see a 32-camera video of the perp buying the guns... That’s gonna be chilling...
Just because the nutjob used those recently purchased guns doesn’t mean he never shot a gun before. For all we know he has been shooting for years.
My husband has been taking our 9 and 13 year olds to a local range to teach them gun safety and how to handle a gun.
Don’t all south korean men do time in their army?
