CBS News: Shooter Used Pistol, Handgun In State With No Registration, Gun-Waiting Period

(CBS) A well-placed law enforcement source tells CBS News the weapons used in the massacre were a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and .22-caliber pistol.

Both are readily available in gun shops across the United States and particularly accessible in the commonwealth of Virginia, which recently earned a C-minus rating by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

CBS biased? Say it ain't so....

Prepare yourself, and arm yourself with the facts to throw back into the faces of the emotional and ignorant.

Arm yourselves with weapons to resist those that are actively trying to erode your freedoms.

Nah. Most likely he was dumped by a girl and just couldn't handle it.

There are plenty of men like him. And they do similar things. The difference here, though, is that this guy had a whole campus of disarmed sheep that he could trap, which is one reason so many were killed.

They didn't derserve it, of course, and everybody wishes for a world where things like this can't happen. But there is no such world.

He was apparently a permanent resident alien with a green card, and they (assuming all their other paperwork is in order and they pass the instant check) can buy guns. Supposedly Cho bought the Glock 9mm from a gun shop in Roanoke, and it was a perfectly legal sale in the Commonwealth of Virginia. (They found the receipt in his backpack, dated 9 March.)

The killer was a foreign student and could not LEGALLY have bought the guns. When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. The government does such a swell job controlling the border and the contraband that streams across it, so why do they think they can control guns any better?

I’ll tell you what... an assault rifle ban is one thing. But any attempt at banning .9mm or .22, this country will go nuts. Those are probably the most common hand guns out there.

Actually, as I read on another thread, he had the guns legally. According to the man who allegedly sold the gun to Cho (see Post #3660, although I think the original link is down), he was a legal resident with a green card, so his purchase of the firearms was perfectly legal.

I think the alleged gun dealer's shop is Roanoke Fire Arms. This was posted on the guy's profile. The poor guy is going to be eaten alive by the media.

That being said, if MORE students had been allowed to have legal guns, I'm pretty sure the death toll would have been a lot lower. The bad guy could have been taken out sooner. Instead, these students were left completely defenseless.

The Constitution was not designed to make it more difficult getting guns and if laws were violated in allowing someone to have a gun that shouldn’t have the ones that violated the law should be prosecuted. It was VT that arbitrarily decided who shouldn’t have the right to defend themselves from people who did illegally obtain weapons.

If he was a legal resident alien then I think under VA law he could legally purchase.

From the Virgina State Police web site:

Does one have to have U.S. citizenship to be eligible to purchase a firearm?
A buyer who is not a citizen of the United States must have lawful alien status and must establish that he or she is a resident of a state by providing a valid photo identification and documentation such as a utility bill or lease agreement which would establish that he or she has resided in the state for at least 90 days prior to the date of the sale.

Congress has passed prohibitions that apply to "any alien in the United States in a non-immigrant status" with certain exceptions and a waiver process. Contact the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives if you have questions about these regulations.

I have no idea about the serial numbers. All I know is what I read from the guy who allegedly sold him at least one of the weapons (more at the link I posted above). And that information from the gun dealer was posted last night, long before anyone knew the perp’s name. It looks legit to me. I guess time will tell.

Non-citizens can purchase a firearm in the US, as long as they’re legal citizens.

Many people come to the US, begin shooting, and bring those positive experiences (but not their guns) back to their home countries. The Japanese are particularly fond of American shooting sports.

Don't worry, before all is said and done, it will be Bush's fault for not having an emergency homeland security terrorist swat squad ready for just this type of situation.

What bothers me is WHY did it take 2/12 hours for ANY police action/ Why were police standing around OUTSIDE of the building while this sicko took his time picking off people at his leisure?

This underlines the true role our police play, as uniformed crime scene investigators. Crime prevention is a myth propagated by Lame stream media and police state democrats.

Notice the MSM’s use of the term “semi-auto”.

My bro-in-law was spouting off one day about how ridiculous it was that people could by “semi-auto” firearms. I asked him to define what a “semi-auto” was - he looked at me blankly and admitted he didn’t know.

Since the majority of gun owner’s are law abiding, moral citizens who would never ever even think about mass murder I had my call of BS to all the other folk calling the same.

One person is responsible. The shooter. The one who decided to take life in his own ends, violating the laws of God and man. The one who held human life in such low contempt that he killed with no more thought than we do when squishing roaches. The one who drunk on death, pain, fear and power extinguished the bright shining souls of 32 children of God. The one who will feel hell’s fire and the worm feeding on him for all eternity. He is the one responsible.

Guns are a tool. If anyone had been able to fire back, stopping yesterday’s rampage then so many people would not have died. Guns in the hands of an evil person become the instrument of evil. In the hands of a good person guns become the instrument of good. Life is worth defending and if a gun is the best means of doing so I say great bring on the fire power.
