Tech killer was 'obsessed' with girl who had new boyfriend (New info)
Timed of London ^ | 4/17/2007

Posted on 04/17/2007 12:41:47 PM PDT by Rutles4Ever

Her smile shines out of the pictures posted on the Facebook website under the title of “Why Emily Hilscher was cooler than me”.

The girl who is believed to have obsessed the Virginia Tech killer, Cho Seung-Hui - and may have been his first victim - had a lot of friends. More than 200 had posted tributes on the website today.

Ella Miller, an old class mate, wrote: “I remember her untieing my shoes with a fork, when we played in the woods around her house in the club house, going to the beach with her and her family. Spending the night at her house and staying up late playing cards, her teaching me how to play the saxaphone, summer crab feasts, swimming in the river, jumping on trampolines in the rain, backstreet boys concert, her putting worms on her nose lol...and it wasn’t just her personality - she was gorgeous!!”

Photographs on the same website show a pretty young woman, preparing for a toga party, going on an 8th grade field trip, and arriving at her high school prom. Described as a straight “A” student, Ms Hilscher, 18, spent most of her free time horse riding and hoped to become a vet.

”I’m interested in pretty much everything,” she wrote on her MySpace page, in which she refers to herself as “The Pixie”.

She added: “My friends are what keeps me smiling. I’m into snowboard, riding and music. Give me something I can bang my head to or dance like crazy, and I’m all over it.”

Ms Hilscher had met a new boyfriend, about whom she gushed about on her page. “I live, love and get booted but eventually that will change...I now have a wonderful guy who is hopefully going to change all of that.” College friends said her new boyfriend had just dropped her off before the massacre.

Ms Hilscher, a first year student who was studying animal and poultry sciences and equine science, was the next-door neighbour of Ryan Clark, a residential adviser at the dormitory where the shooting started.

It is believed that a morning argument in the dormitory at the Virginia Tech campus led Cho to kill the teenager and Mr Clark who had attempted to come to her aid.

Her grandmother, Merle Hilscher, 71, described the tight bond Emily had with big sister Erica, 21, who attended a nearby university. “They were very close all their lives,” she said.

“Now one of them is ended, but we have to carry on.”

On her Facebook tribute page today, Cody Yager wrote: “Emily was one of my first friends here at [Virginia] Tech. How could such a beautiful soul be removed from our lives?”

Will Sonnett from Rappahannock County High School in rural Virginia, said: “Emily Hilscher was cooler than me because she could make friends with a glance and a smile. She never hesitated to make someone, anyone feel at home with kindness and an open mind. Thanks for being awesome to lame little 8th graders, and for making stupid computer classes unforgettable.”

I would freak out if my 18 year old sister had a photo on the web of her with her skirt down to her pubic bone and exposing her tattoo in a drunken pose. It doesn’t look good.

So would I - but I wouldn't immediately infer from such a picture that the girl was "easy." It doesn't look good, but that doesn't prove anything beyond that.

“i unfortunatly am alone... all alone.. i live love and get booted but eventually that will change. have a wonderful guy who is hopefully going to change all of that... but dont know what is going to happen. i’m into snowboarding riding and music. “ That is bizarre.

It is? It's fairly typical for an 18-year-old's myspace. So is the rest of her myspace. I see nothing unusual, nor disturbing.

So I raise this question for you - do you think she was asking for it?

I agree with you to some point.

I noticed that the foreign Press is covering the romance angle of this massacre but not in the US press. Is it verified now that the girlfriend issue caused him to commit the massacre? So far his notes do not reveal that this is the problem, but rather he was a frustrated socialist, angry at the rich people, the good standards of living in the US, and possibly he is a muslim convert.

Maybe we ought to re-think coeducation, or at least co-ed dorms.

She was probably the only girlfriend he ever had because he was such a loner/loser.

I suspect they were never boyfriend/girlfriend, rather the relationship was more like David Hinckley and Jodi Foster.

No. It looks like she barely knew which way was up...which is why she “hooked up” with a murdering psychopath.

I do wonder what is your motivation. True, I wouldn’t want my daughter to have a MySpace page at all, let alone one with a somewhat suggestive picture like that and some curse words. But why is that at all significant in the context of this thread? Does it mean that she somehow deserved her fate, in your eyes? What is your point?

Besides the cursing, look at what she says on myspace.

All is fairly typical for what passes for weighty discourse on childish sites like Myspace, I'm afraid. I think your unflattering characterization of this young woman says more about you than it says about her, quite frankly.

Why not let leave it alone, eh? Show some respect.

>One thing about the killer’s personality - we know from this he was a very, very selfish individual.....<

Where are you getting your information on the killer’s personslity? Or is everyone embroidering on the word, “loner”? Why is everyone convinced that he had anything to do with the Miller girl, and what actual evidence do they have? Sounds to me like FR is writing the story purely based on past cases. I am inclined to think, until proven otherwise, that Cho was a baby muslim, who gave it all for Allah.

Actually it is much worse... you don't only blame her for her own death, you blame her for the 32 other deaths.

To me it looks like she was easy, a little unstable, befriended a murderer, and her having sexual relations with other guys triggered all his insanity.

Her having sexual relations... caused the insanity???

That you would call this girl Easy, unstable, and accuse her from having any sexual activity (not that it matters either way)... basing all this from a web page... the day after she died??

No straw man there... you are pathetic.

Whoa. There is absolutely no evidence she ever had any relationship with him at all. As best as we know, Cho Seung-Hui's affections were entirely unrequited.

One thing to keep in mind about myspace is that teenagers lie. Teenagers lie a lot, many really want to appear to their friends more worldly, grown-up and experienced than they are. Just because they say on myspace they’ve had many boyfriends doesn’t mean they’ve had one, just because they say they’ve been recently dumped doesn’t mean they actually had anybody to dump them. Take everything you see there with a large quantity of salt and make sure you aren’t blaming the victim. Even if everything on her myspace is the absolute truth, which is probably isn’t, she sure as heck didn’t deserve to get shot.

I think it’s in poor taste to speculate in a negative way on this girl’s social habits the day after she was gunned down. She was a young college student finding her own way. Your post comes across as if she had some hand in encouring, or setting this inhuman slime off, through her behavior.

Precisely right. It's very typical for Myspace. That is, in fact, the reason why I never really used it for anything other than 24 downloads.

Facebook, on the other hand, has become a means by which my graduate student association broadcasts need-to-know announcements. It's a little classier.

I think I said it in my first post. The story seems to paint her as an angel and after 5 mintues of web search she doesn’t seem to be.

Plus, he could legally buy her drinks.

Although this may not a popular opinion here, there’s definately a dark, possessive side to male sexuality which sometimes manifests itself in ‘If I can’t have her, no-one else will either’ thinking.

It's because she died tragically. It's a social more that you don't say nasty things about the departed.
