US President George W. Bush on Wednesday honored Professor Liviu Librescu, an Israeli Holocaust survivor who died trying to keep a gunman from shooting his students in a killing spree at Virginia Tech University.
Librescu, an aeronautics engineer and teacher at the school for 20 years, saved the lives of several students by using his body to barricade a classroom door before he was gunned down in Monday's massacre.
That day we saw horror, but we also saw quiet acts of courage, Bush said at a memorial service held at the US Holocaust Museum to a crowd that included many survivors.
We saw this courage in a teacher named Liviu Librescu. With the gunman set to enter his class, this brave professor blocked the door with his body while his students fled to safety. On the Day of Remembrance, this Holocaust survivor gave his own life so that others may live. And this morning we honor his memory and we take strength from his example.

That'll piss off the arab-appeasing liberals.
God Bless him.
I agree. The man died a hero.
G-d spared this man in the holocaust so he could save lives a long time later.
Rest in peace, brave sir.
The only one who seemed to know what to do.
We have become like scared rabbits in this country. Why, oh why, did not half a dozen men in each class lie in wait for this guy, and bash his head in with a chair or fire extinguisher the moment he walked in the door?

There is, no doubt, a special place in heaven for Liviu.
People who have lived under tyranny understand what coddled Americans don’t.
Amen.
God Bless him!
Soooo true.

A wonderful human and hero
The only one? Were you there? Did you see it all?

I hope GWB presents this brave mans wife with this. He deserves it!
Oops.....Presidential citizens medal.
Quinn (from Quinn and Rose) Had a great suggestion. Said the door he blocked should be bronzed and a bronze statue of the hero professor be placed behind it blocking it as he did. This should be placed in front of the building and the building be renamed for him.

That quote from the President belongs in Bartlett's and should be inscribed on the Holocaust Museum itself.
What a great line!
People who have lived under tyranny understand what coddled Americans dont.
Thanks, d.
It is a beautiful quote. Last night Dennis Miller mentioned this professor who had seen evil as a child and then as an adult at Virginia Tech and knew he had to stand in its way. What a lesson - which of course, the LIBS will never learn. They want to “accommodate” and “understand” EVIL.
And also Robert Novak and Pat Buchanan who hate Jews and Israelis for reasons I will never understand. They are probably ticked off at hearing about the heroism of an Israeli as opposed to the cowardice of Moslems who blow up women and children in pizzerias.
Professor Librescu ping!
God Bless Professor Librescu Forever.
“You who have survived evil know that the only way to defeat it is to look it in the face and not back down.”
That quote from the President belongs in Bartlett’s and should be inscribed on the Holocaust Museum itself.
And it also should be inscribed on the Professor’s memorial. He was a great man!
