LOLOL!! I guess someone who writes a story about sailing around the world could at least look at a globe....
My guess is that the author meant the boat would round Cape Horn coming from the Pacific to the Atlantic on its way to the Indian Ocean. Rounding Cape Horn from the Atlantic to the Pacific in a sailboat is extremely difficult because the ship is riding against a fierce wind in very strong wave conditions.
