Hillary Clinton Losing Support in New York
NewsMax ^ | 4/23/07

Posted on 04/23/2007 10:06:18 AM PDT by areafiftyone

Front-running Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton's favorable rating is slipping at home and New York voters aren't quite as sure they prefer her over Republican Rudy Giuliani, a statewide poll reported Monday.

The latest poll from Siena College's Research Institute had Clinton leading Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, 48 percent to 43 percent, down from the 51 percent to 39 percent lead she enjoyed in a March poll from the Albany-area college.

Clinton's favorable rating among New York voters was at 50 percent in the latest poll, down from 56 percent last month.

"The fall in her rating has been dramatic since January, when she had a 60 percent to 33 percent favorability rating," said Steven Greenberg, a spokesman for the Siena poll.

The Clinton slippage was also evident in the race for the Democratic nomination. The new poll had the state's junior senator leading Barack Obama, 39 percent to 17 percent. She held a 32 percentage point lead over the Illinois senator last month among New York voters. National polls have also shown the race tightening.

The Clinton camp said other New York polls, including one earlier this month from Quinnipiac University, showed Clinton remaining strong in her home state. The Quinnipiac poll had her favorable rating at 58 percent, statistically unchanged from the 59 percent she had in the school's February poll.

"We're proud to have such overwhelming support in New York, but are taking nothing for granted and will work hard for every vote," said Clinton spokesman Blake Zeff.

The Siena poll found Clinton's decline against Giuliani was sharpest among independent voters and suburbanites. Against Obama, her drop-off was largely due to a shift among New York City's Democratic voters.

"The campaign is clearly heating up early and it's clearly having an impact on her numbers," Greenberg said.

On the Republican side, Giuliani continued to enjoy a strong lead for the GOP nomination among his home state voters - 47 percent to 16 percent for Sen. John McCain of Arizona. No other Republican was in double digits.

Siena's telephone poll of 980 registered voters was conducted April 16-20 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The hell of it is, she LIVES by these polls, and will soon start to say and do whatever it takes to reverse this trend. Lots of time for her to duck and weave.

I think she has a good chance of becoming the nominee but I do not see her getting elected.

If she does become the nominee will she give up her senate seat so she can hit the campaign trail?

She is cutting her own nose off. The bagel bistro crowd in New York want a jaded cut-throat elitist liberal. Not some hee-haw, ‘aww shucks’ girl from Arkansas which has become her latest schitck. Remember? “I’ve always been a Yankees fan!” ...yeah right...

Honestly, I don’t know what she thinks she is doing here. The last thing I would expect a Clinton to talk about is what is on or under the infamous rug in the oval office.

Oh, and who exactly is “?us? always having to clean up after people”? Is she implying here that she is black? This is an extremely racist or sexist remark either way.

I've never seen a Republican candidate as loathsome and unworthy of the party nomination as Rudy Giuliani. Perhaps that explains it.

I’m seem to remember that Bubba’s rug was confiscated for forensic examination related to the Lewinsky case.

They were checking the rug in the oval office of the United States of America, the most powerful seat in the world, for semen. What a way deface our entire country.

I don’t see how either of them can show their face in public at all, but to bring up the rug?

I’m finding it hard to buy the shrewd bitch characterization. That whole speech and everything about it was racist and just plain stupid. IMO

Wow, Rudy Giuliani says he is a Republican, and we can't oppose his nomination because that is hating. If we don't want to be called haters, then we better pick the candidate that is most likely to deafeat Hillary. That means we have to vote for Rudy, or Hillary will be our next President, and if you don't believe that then you are a HATER! A dirty rotten nasty Conservative HATER!

I’m positive that the Republicans have film of Bill with other bimbos since he left office. I also would not be suprised if they had tapes of Mrs. Clinton with other ladies.
I’m also sure that as more folks see Mrs. Clinton in action the less her favorables will be.

Hillary loses support everytime she opens her mouth. Her numbers are down in key primary states, and the money boys are not supporting her.

Hillary came out too early and her yelling and whining are getting on people’s nerves. She reminds everyone of the screaming old crow down the street who stood on the porch shaking her cane at kids playing hopscotch and marbles too loud.
