Paul Krugman's Illuminating Smear
TCS Daily ^ | April 24, 2007 | Brian Doherty

Paul Krugman was recently called on to smear the recently deceased economist and libertarian polemicist Milton Friedman in the pages of the New York Review of Books. Among the bill of particulars was that Friedman's policy-commenter career began "under rather odd circumstances." That is, under the aegis of the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE). As Krugman quotes the liberal historian of the Goldwater movement, Rick Perlstein, FEE, founded in 1946 and still around today, "spread a libertarian gospel so uncompromising it bordered on anarchism."

That's scary enough for the NYRB reader. But it gets worse. The next sentence..........

I would rather have pointy sticks poked in my eyes than read the Noam Chomsky-oriented, America-loathing NYRB. Notice he couldn’t even get this published in the free-market hating mainstream media for which he works, it is so bad.

You know what’s sad? Even dead, Milton Friedman can win an argument with Krugman.

Friedman was an intellectual, a theorist, and a philosopher.

Krugman’s forte is meanness and nastiness.

Friedman’s legacy will survive the ages. Krugman’s will last until his corpse is cold.

Well, with a name like Krugman, those would be his highest aspirations.

Paul Krugman is a spiteful little Leftist toad and a failure of a economist. The article however, was enlightening on one point. Libertarians (the small L ones) tend to deal more with ideas than issues. Conservatives tend to fight the Left point by point in the political arena.

A somewhat interesting article, but it really had very little to do with either Krugmann or Friedman after you get past the first paragraph.

Krugman is a socialist prick. We need more economic freedom, not less.

Friedman was the sin qua non of economists, probably for all time.

Krugman is not an economist. No economist worth his salt takes anything the man says seriously.

Whatever credibility Krugman once had has been thoroughly reduced to shambles by the man himself. He is a bitter, shrill, imbecilic whore of a hack.

Krugman has no talent. Krugman critizing Friedman is like Carter critizing Reagan.

Nice article about FEE and Leonard Read. He seems to have had a genuine peaceful nature.
