Lieberman: Patience Thin With Iran

April 24, 2007

Newsmax.com

Sen. Joe Lieberman said the United States would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and warned that America was losing patience with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s regime.

"The world cannot allow this nation with this leader having said what he has said to get nuclear weapons,” Lieberman said during a speech at a synagogue in Montreal, Canada, on Sunday.

"The U.S. would never say that it would not use military power to at least try to knock out part of the nuclear weapons program of Iran to at least delay the time it takes to get nuclear capacity. That’s the last choice. I hope we don’t get to it.”

The senator from Connecticut said the Ahmadinejad regime "poses as great a threat to us in the 21st century, if not dealt with seriously, as fascism and communism did in the last century.”

Lieberman noted that the Iranian people could very well topple the hardline leader.

"We have begun to work with reformers within Iran,” he said in remarks reported by the Montreal Gazette.

"In many ways this is a very unpopular regime within Iran. It’s not impossible to think there might be a popular movement that might try to overthrow the government.”

Lieberman also reaffirmed his support for the U.S. war effort in Iraq.

"We should provide General [David] Petraeus with the time and the resources to succeed,” he declared. "We should not surrender in the face of barbarism.”

"We should not surrender in the face of barbarism.”

Joe Lieberman is one of the few DemonRats who has any sanity. Civilization vs. Barbarians. We are at war with barbarians who wish to plunge the world into a new Dark Age.

Joe, time to caucus with the Republicans. If that cannot be, at least let Reid think it will happen unless Harry does some serious STFU. Save the nation, Joe.

I called his office last Friday, and left a voice message asking him to come over with the Republicans in response to
Harry Reid’s treasonous remarks.

Many need to call on him to do this. Joe can’t remain honorable and continue to run with these dogs.

Bad idea.

If he stays as a Democrat, his party has to take him seriously no matter how much it pains them. The fact that he caucuses with the Democrats is why they control the Senate, and he is exacting the full price for that. Witness his chairmanship. He is the conscience of the party, much as Zell Miller was when he served in the Senate, and sometimes the pangs of conscience can sting.

Send Joe to the Republicans, and the Democrats can ignore him, even if they lose the Senate.

Having him where he is today works best for the country and his party. Someday his party will regain its sanity, and he'll be there to help it face reality.

At least with Lieberman, he returns to the Truman/Kennedy/ScoopJackson wing of the Democratic Party (now nearly extinct), and puts himself squarely on the side of civilization and democracy. The rest of his party are more at war with Bush than with the barbarian threat of al Qaeda and Iran (the other terror master). I cannot help but think the Reid and Polisi Democrats in their hyper partisan attacks on Bush and the war in Iraq are giving the mad mullahs and Ahmadinejad encouragement to believe the Democrats will turn a blind eye to Iran’s nuclear program, as they have looked the other way on Iran’s interference in Iraq. The Democrats have given the impression they prefer to hate Bush than to oppose the barbarians.

I don’t agree with your well thought out reasoning.

We have a treasonous nutcase, Harry Reid, controlling the Senate and its agenda. That needs to be countered.

Lieberman is our only chance to do this, to get control of the Senate. That would also serve as a foil to Pelosi.

The Dems don’t care about honor or about Lieberman.

He is enabling their traitorous agenda.

He needs to choose his country or his party.

Such are the times we live in. It has gone past the point of rational discourse. We are fighting for the survival of the American republic that was bequeathed to us.

The Dems are hellbent on bringing us to the point of civil war. This is like living in 1860.

Honorable men better step up to the plate—soon—the situation is at the eleventh hour.

Lieberman and Giuliani understand the threats we face and that’s a good thing. Just think, if Lieberman had decided to run for President, he could have put an “R” beside his name and instead of Rudy-bots, we’d have Joe-bots here. LOL

Sorry, we cannot afford to wait until the RATs “regain sanity.” Reid is doing irreparable damage now, emboldening our enemies and getting people killed. Let the RATs take Joe seriously? Ha! They jettisoned him but he got elected anyway. He knows what they think. Besides, what can the RATs give him that the pubbies won’t? and he gets to stay independent.

If we end up having to take down Iran with air and sea power, it will be because they miscalculated due to the Democrats “loyal” opposition. Many of these tyrants have historically miscalculated the real meaning of US domestic opposition, and in this case the Democrats are at best sending mixed messages and at worst in a de facto alliance with Iran to stop Bush and the elected Iraqi governments efforts in Iraq against terror so as to enhance the power position of the Democrats.

Some can hope that the Truman/Kennedy/Scoop Jackson/Sam Nunn wing re-takes control of the Democratic Party (I was a member of that in my so-called “liberal” days - quite pro military), but sadly that is not going to happen. Which is not good for this country. The Democratic Party will continue to be more dominated by the likes of the DUmmies, the Kos Kids, and MoveOn.org or the latest Soros flavor. This trend started with McGovern in 1972, some may argue that it was in 1968 after the Chicago “Riot”.
So the Dems go more and more to the barking moonbat left. At some point to the point of irrelevancy (although they will continue to have their shills in the lamestream media). Will the result be that the Republican Party then becomes “fat dumb and happy” - and off message? Some may argue - and make a good case - that the Republicans are there already. Which I dare say is not good in the long run.

Joe, you’re an independent, cross the aisle once in a while. Show that country matters more than party, like it did years ago.
