It is appalling how little regard some of today’s journalists have for the truth.

Following her rescue, unsubstantiated reports abounded, the media made a variety of assertions

I remember seeing Dan Abrams on MSNBC admit that they had no evidence that the military had said any of the things the media was reporting. He called them "media rumors".

Waxman claimed the rescue was delayed so that the rescue could be filmed. Is there any evidence of that, or is he slandering the troops?

Lynch was taken by the Iraqi Army wasn’t she? Fighting them was child’s play compared to the hit and run army we are fighting now.

Keep women the hell out of combat units or anywhere near where combat may be a danger. That includes flying ,driving truck or on a navy ship.

Women dont belong serving beside men in the military.

Jessica Lynch’s testimony was short and consisted of a statement she had prepared ahead of time.

The PDF of her statement is available at:

http://oversight.house.gov/documents/20070424110022.pdf. Excerpts from her statement follow:

“… I believe this is not a time for finger pointing. It is time for the truth, the whole truth, versus misinformation and hype.”

“… I have repeatedly said, when asked, that if the stories about me helped inspire our troops and rally a nation, then perhaps there was some good. However, I am still confused as to why they chose to lie and tried to make me a legend when the real heroics of my fellow soldiers that day were, in fact, legendary. People like Lori Piestewa and First Sergeant Dowdy, who picked up fellow soldiers in harms way. Or people like Patrick Miller and Sergeant Donald Walters, who actually fought until the very end.”

“The bottom line is the American people are capable of determining their own ideals for heroes and they don’t need to be told elaborate tales.”

It seems to me that Congressman Waxman and his committee should be investigating how the media perverted the story to build its ratings. It is appalling how little regard some of today’s journalists have for the truth.

I’m waiting for this to happen. I figure it will be about 15 minutes after frost warnings in hell.

Thank you for posting! I have been in dire spirits since “Senator” Reid decided to wave his white flag the other day. This story shows how awesome our troops are, no matter how bad the anti-war jerks want to show them as incompetent, scared, ill-prepared, unprofessional, torturers and cowards. The MSM’s trumped up stories and LACK of coverage since the fall of Baghdad has been awful. This story gave me new energy.

What happened to the officer leading her unit? It seems that he/she was behaving irresponsibly.

I absolutely do not understand Pat Tillman’s parents. Ok, he was killed by friendly fire. They want the truth. But to deliberately torch the legacy of their son and his legend-—who would want that for their son? If a legend had sprung up that my son was a hero, and gave inspiration to others, no matter what I knew to be the truth, I’d encourage that view.

This account tracks very closely with the book, I'm A Soldier Too where she makes no claims to heroism. She does say that Lori Ann was the true hero and even turned around to go back and pickup soldiers that were left behind.

To the Marines’ amazement, the Army vehicles all had their headlights on. In the Iraqi night, a stream of American vehicles could be seen off to the horizon.

Geez! Didn’t their vehicles have “black out lights” with “Cats Eyes?” At least that’s what we call them in the Air Force!

Walters was later murdered.
Piestewa died from her wounds.
These are the two people who should have been made into heros.
Obviously the media had some sort of agenda with Lynch. Was it “female soldiers are heros too?”

Good point. What exactly IS Nostrilitis Waxman "investigating" in this hearing, anyway?

Lowry implies that the blame for the false stories lies with the media, but I wonder if there were Clintonista feminists still in the DOD who planted the Lynch-as-feminist-hero idea in the MSM's collective[ist] mind.

But certainly the MSM are capable of fabricating stories, then sticking with them. One of the most glaring examples I've seen recently is the media myth that Colin Finnerty, one of the Duke accused, had gone "gay-bashing" in Washington, DC.

By repeating that canard, the MSM ignore the fact that the assault charge against Finnerty was dropped. They continue to slander Finnerty as a "homophobe" -- simply because someone, probably the "homeless" man who was harassing Finnerty's group, claimed Finnerty had yelled the "f" word (i.e. "f_gg_t") at him.

So as Fox News's Neil Gabler told a national audience last week, Finnerty must be guilty of doing SOMETHING to the Duke accuser. Why? ... Because he's a "gay-basher."

All based on a dropped charge that was conjured out of thin air in the first place.
