The news keeps getting worse for NBC, which set a low-water mark for prime-time viewership for the second straight week.
One week after NBC averaged 6.8 million viewers -- its smallest in-season audience since at least 1987, and probably well before -- the network sank to 6.2 million last week, according to Nielsen Media Research.
"They are just in a complete mess," said Marc Berman, a television analyst for Media Week Online.
NBC notes that TV viewership in general is lower, with all of the broadcast networks down 10 percent from last year over the past three weeks, and that the network has been airing several reruns to hoard original series episodes for the May ratings sweeps.
But the network had only three shows among Nielsen's 30 most popular last week -- two of them editions of the game show "Deal or No Deal." None of the week's top 16 shows were on NBC.
Aging franchises "Law & Order" and "The Apprentice" aren't helping, Berman said. NBC's Thursday comedy lineup, while critically acclaimed, hasn't broken through to a mass audience with shows such as "The Office" and "30 Rock."
An original episode of "Scrubs" last week drew only 5.6 million viewers, Nielsen said.
"They coasted on Thursdays for over a full decade and they can't do it anymore," Berman said. "What are they going to do now? They're in a lot of trouble."

And what is this “NBC” of which you speak?
;->
Love The Office. Don’t touch anything else.
And I get The Office off of iTunes. I think I’ll be cancelling our Dish subscription when it comes up for renewal.
“Oh, the humanity”
Or you could just switch to the original British Office on PBS.
It always blows my mind that more than 30 people watch any of the alphabet news programs.
I hardly watch TV at all. The only time I even wach NBC is for The Office and My Name is Earl, both shows I enjoy immensely. Other than that, there’s sonline gaming, NetFlix, and FreeRepublic, and guess what? I don’t have time to sit in front of a TV absorbing leftist drivel.
Call me a heretic, but I much prefer the US version. But I have a feeling it may go downhill shortly.
And besides. I make it a point not to support anything off of PBS. As bad as the MSM is, at least I don’t fund them with my tax dollars.
I hear that Rosie O’donuts is available.
What is an NBC?
DOND is a case study in greed, with eye candy to boot. Contestants can win 50-75k by literally just showing up. I enjoy the ones that keep reaching for the big bucks and end up going home with a shiny briefcase with $50 in it.
I started watching ‘The Black Donnellys’ and was really enjoying it. The pulled it after 5 or 6 episodes. I won’t be watching ANYTHING on NBC from now on. I am tired of shows being pulled after half a season and replaced with reality TV garbage.
Precisely. The range of entertainment options is so diverse these days, that you don’t have to be spoon fed what *they* want you to see.
I look at my parent’s generation, and am frankly disturbed by how they think they HAVE to sit in front of the tube in order to get their news and entertainment. Watching their glazed over expressions doesn’t help matters any.
I hate to admit it but I actually watched a few NBC shows recently. It all started because of their NFL contract on Sunday nights. They advertised for Friday Night Lights during a Sunday night football game and I started watching. That lead to Heros which lead to The Black Donnelleys. Of course since NBC is a bunch of morons they put Heros on hiatus for over a month and cancelled TBD after 6 episodes. Morons. Now I know why I never watched these channels in the first place.
OPK, I missed Scrubs last week because I’d been called into the office about 4 am and was too worn out to watch. I barely stayed awake thru “My Name is Earl”.
Misery loves company.

Not a chance. CNN gets NO revenue-enhancing hits from me, ever.
Outside of ‘Hero’s’ I can’t name a show on NBC.
I think Deal or No Deal is on NBC. If it is that might be a show you want to add to your list. I just love the show and the craziness when people get over the 100,000 dollar mark.
No Body Cares.
