Fred Thompson: Can Another Actor Become President?
Associated Content ^ | April 24, 2007 | Mark Whittington

Posted on 04/25/2007 12:37:53 PM PDT by anymouse

Fred Thompson, lawyer, lobbyist, actor, former Senator has two things going for him if (when) he seeks the Republican nomination for President. First, he has impeccable conservative credentials which he has not seemed to ever have compromised, even during his time in office. Second, Fred Thompson's physical appearance, his gravely, southern drawl, and his body language make him the very personification of "Mr. President" as if he had been found in central casting.

In fact, Fred Thompson's film and television career has displayed his talents in the role of wielder of government power. He has played a CIA Director, White House Chief of Staff, a Navy Admiral (twice) and is currently a district attorney in the long running series, Law and Order. In each of his roles he has presented the kind of gravitas that would be reassuring in a real life President of the United States.

(snip)

This scene illustrates the great conundrum of the liberal woman. On the one hand they don't like right wing men, as they suspect that they get up in the morning plotting to take away their right to an abortion. On the other hand, it is the post 9/11 world and these left wing females know that the metrosexual, caring, in touch with their feeling men that they prefer to sleep with will be incapable of defending either them or their children should Al Qaeda comes to call. For that they need John Wayne, or Dirty Harry, or--Fred Dalton Thompson.

Indeed, whom would you rather have as President if it came to past that Al Qaeda was about to set off a nuclear bomb in your town? Hillary Clinton? Or a man like Fred Thompson, who has played Admirals and prosecutors, and could be President of the United States.

Being prez is high stress. Even Dick Cheney with his heart condition knows this. Fred’s got medical problems. High stress could bring back that cancer faster than a hair grows on a canine. Fred, like Dick, would be high risk as prez even though I would prefer Dick Cheney as prez.

“Fred Thompson: Can Another Actor Become President?”

I am convinced being an actor should be required to be President.

So, now this question comes to mind: When is Fred going to announce his candidacy? Time is fleeting.

He had a career before he became an actor. Lawyer, but I don’t hold that against him.

Considering that Rudy, McCain, Kerry, etc. are all cancer survivors, they would be equally, as you put it, at risk of cancer returning.

Central casting found Martin Sheen, That sucks.

I will vote for Fred Thompson as he seems to have the qualities I want.

Rudy and John McCain had cancer too. I’m sure JC Watts will be a wonderful VP under Thompson to relieve the stress.

Indolent lymphomas are among the most treatable sort of cancer with recurrance rates that are low. Even if recurrance happens, it can be brought under control again and relatively easily.

Nobody knows what the future holds. Any pres could develop a medical condition or have one exacerbate at any point. As others have pointed out, other GOP candidates have had cancer.

But you see, they are “candidates” being the operable word. If I had my choice as prez, it would be Dick Cheney but his heart couldn’t take it. And he knows it.

Fred Thompson is the only viable candidate the GOP has right now. 65% of the GOP says we want more choices! Rudy positions are too far from the base, plus he has some serious personal issues. John is tired and seems to be running out of gas. His biggest problem is that he considered leaving the GOP and joining the Dems... Mitt is all over the place. First he was pro-choice and now he is pro-life; he was pro-gun control and now he is pro second amendment; He was gay rights and now he is not; He is a life long hunter (twice)! None will get the support of the base. Either we choice someone else or many will stay home. Fred Thompson is our best option if we want to win the White House in 08. The question is not if he will run but when will he run?

Fred on thread after thread......

Now we hear the stress will be too much for him. Yet it won’t for the other candidates who have had cancer?

Just bizarre.

You got that right. All a person has to do is open their eyes. The most telling is the hair. Each prez starts the job with some color. By the time 4 or 8 years is over, the prez’ hair is snow white or almost. Now that’s stress. That’s the most visible sign. Can you imagine what the stress produces on the body that we can’t see?

Why is this even a question after Arnold?

Answer: Viral promotions to favor Rudy Guiliani or McCain.

Thompson destroys any campaigns by Romndy and McCain.

The second he enters it becomes a two person race.

It is just a question of how much does McCain or Romney hate Guiliani.

That’s right and none are prez at the moment. But all are equally unreliable.

From whence does all this equating of Democrats and Republicans come at Free Republic?

Does anyone here truly believe that John McCain, who is both pro-War In Iraq and pro-life and has stated that he wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade, and Rudy Giuliani, who is Pro-Israel, pro-War In Iraq, pro-tax cuts and Pro-War on Terror, are less reliable than John Effing Kerry?

Who are you people?
