TOny Stewart Likens Nascar to Wrestling
April 25, 2007
2:55 pm EDT
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Two-time champion Tony Stewart likened NASCAR to professional wrestling and accused it of using bogus caution flags to shape races in biting comments made on his weekly radio show.
Stewart's appearance on his Tuesday night show was his first since skipping a post-race press conference in Phoenix. He dominated Saturday night's race but lost after a late exchange of leads with winner Jeff Gordon. Stewart said he refused interviews to avoid bashing NASCAR after officials threw four cautions for debris on the track.
``It's like playing God,'' he said on his Sirius Satellite Radio program. ``They can almost dictate the race instead of the drivers doing it. It's happened too many times this year.''
Stewart, who said he was fighting a fever and left the two-hour show early, went on to say fans are complaining about debris cautions and NASCAR isn't listening.
``I guess NASCAR thinks 'Hey, wrestling worked, and it was for the most part staged, so I guess it's going to work in racing, too,''' he said. ``I can't understand how long the fans are going to let NASCAR treat them like they're stupid before the fans finally turn on NASCAR.
Where is everybody??
Okay, let’s try this... free okra to the first five posters
Whoa doggies, you tell em Smoke!
mmmm fried okra?
Welcome. I guess now we only have three metric tons of okra left. Let’s see who our next three posters are...
Only two left...
Hey Tork, there's a race on this weekend.
It better be.
LOL. Ya, anything but fried, and it’s just like something out of Alien or The Thing.
It’s not too bad in gumbo.
Nascar needs to be back on TNT and not on FOX. Fox tv ads are making it hard for me to watch Nascar!!!!...
They all are pretty infested with ads. I’d pay to watch it on cable with no commercials.
Let me guess this straight. He declined an interview to avoid bashing NASCAR, then bashes them on his radio show? Maybe he’s angry because he’s not dominating anymore
LOL. He probably declined at first to avoid the heavy fines until he cooled down. A tad.
We’re fresh out of okra. No more calls, please.
My wife and I are totally jealous... Our two boys Chrismas present last year was going to this race with Grandpa... We are taking them to the airport tomorrow to fly out on a private jet directly to Talladega Airport... The pilot told them if they are really nice to her she will park them next to Jr’s plane... Knowing Grandpa, they will be at the track anytime cars are on it!
Now I'm mad...Thems fightin words...
I’ll share but you’re going to have to come here for supper.
Soon as the okra gets here!
Grear looking thread!
5 Toys will qualify!
...give me a minute to put on the anti-flame suit.....
I know. I've been told time and again... "kind of a greary thread there Grok."
Will you adopt me?
Feed me okra!! It’s a staple food!
I would but it would not help you any... LOL we dont have the money to afford this... Even missed going to the phoenix race last weekend and it’s about 15 miles from my house...
Let me clarify, Grandpa’s Christmas present to the boys was this trip to Talladega, This year is his 10th anniversary of going to this race and he wanted to make it special by flying on a private jet...
I went with him in 2000 and 2001, but we camped out at the track back then, and what a party that was!
MAN was I-15 a mess comming in today...
I hate it when they visit somewhere I’m driving...

Yep, he isn’t nicknamed Smoke for nothing.

Can I have Door #3, Monty?
UNNNGGHH! Good luck!
The goof who organized the protest wasn’t anywhere to be seen... took off for DC.
It's options are just in holding with Nascar traditions of not being able to do anything the easy way. ;)
Thanks for hosting...bump

DW asks (re Spiderman): is Peter Parker the one who picked a peck of peckers?
According to SPEED Ch., “avoiding” those fines cost him $10K and a season-long probation. Again, according to SPEED, there were no fines or probations coming from his radio show rip of NASCAR.
In essence he is being forced to buy himself just like he had to call in the lawyers to even have use of his entire name!!
On another sad note..........
JR Motorsports officials say the team will pay tribute to Lt. Cmdr. Kevin “Kojak” Davis, the Navy pilot killed during an air show this month, during Saturday’s Aaron’s 312 Busch Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.
Shane Huffman’s name above the driver’s side door on the No. 88 Chevrolet, which is sponsored by the Navy, has been replaced by a Blue Angels decal in memory of Davis, who died last Saturday when his F/A-18 Hornet crashed during a show in Beaufort, S.C.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at JR Motorsports are with Kojak’s friends and family,” Huffman said. “I had the opportunity to meet him when I flew with the Blue Angels back in February, and Dale [Earnhardt] Jr. [JR Motorsports team owner] met him the year before, so his death hit us hard.
“I wanted to do something to honor our fallen friend, and this just seemed like the right thing to do.”
