LEWISTON, Maine -- A Lewiston man who rolled a pig's head into a local mosque last summer, touching off tensions in minority communities in the city and beyond, shot and killed himself in a parking lot after a brief standoff with police, authorities said.
According to Lewiston police Sgt. Michael Whalen, 34-year-old Brent Matthews committed suicide after police tried to persuade him to put down a semiautomatic handgun, the Maine Sunday Telegram reported.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 a.m. Saturday off Main Street.
Matthews had been charged with a misdemeanor count of desecrating a place of worship and pleaded not guilty. State prosecutors obtained a court order to keep him away from the mosque.
The Sun Journal of Lewiston reported that Matthews phoned 911 in distress at 8:14 a.m., according to police and that when officers arrived Matthews was outside his car and alone.
They tried speaking with him, but Matthews never responded. After just a few minutes, he raised a handgun to his head and fired once, the Lewiston newspaper reported.

What a waste.
Now I get it!!! I shouldn’t be commenting on this here, perhaps, but yesterday there was a spoof article set in Lewistown, Maine, that used actual names of employees in Lewiston and organiztions actually operating in Maine and their personnel. A spoof about a white kid who threw a ham sandwich into a lunch table where Somalians had set in the past. And they were going to kick the little guy out of school for a hate crime and talking about how dangerous ham sandwiches were.
This is where the guy got the material. The hog’s head in the mosque.
That said, it is a shame that things happened like this.
The mosque people are probably thanking Allah.
Lives are being turned upsidedown, and preference goes to the newcomers, the natives be damned.
What in the hell is going on in Lewistown, Maine? It’s as though it’s a hotbed for CAIR and hate crime controversy.

We should begin delivering live hogs to the premises of that mosque, letting them defecate all over the property.
Too bad he did not choose life and go to trial and contest the issue of whether Islam is a religion.

Initially, I thought the the ham sandwich in school story was a spoof too.
Lou Dobbs of CNN severely berated a number of Maine public officials over it (without giving many details) last night on his evening broadcast.
Hard to believe he would say what he did without checking the story out to make sure it was true.
Not so sure the story was a spoof any more.

This guy sounds like he was Cuckoo for Coco puffs. I think he would have acted in the same manner even if it wasn’t a mosque and Muslims.

When I first read the headline, I thought I was going to read about how he killed himself by self-beheading with a rusty, dull knife.
I'm all for diversity. One should own a variety of makes and models of firearms to protect oneself from Islamics.
Looks like the police are on the side of the Muslims. We are witnessing the results of 3o plus years of a slow destruction of everything we used to hold sacred. Now, the politicos are bowing down to the Muslims hordes as we have to sit back and watch and realize that we are witnessing the deaththroughs of our country. We have set ourselves up for the rise of an absolute dictatorial leader to purge our country of this insidious “cancer” and we will all suffer when that happens.
He woulda blown up without any prompting.
I would suspect that he would have been the sort that would have suicide bombed the mosque, bomb vest and all.
Me too ... an outlandish or oddball manner of dress makes it easier to know the enemy.

Lewiston was the site of the Muhammed Ali - Sonny Liston fight in 1965, Ali’s first fight after his conversion to the Nation of Islam was widely known.

Bill Clinton is what is going on. He rewarded the Somali people for Black Hawk Down by brining 90,000 of those savages into America free and clear. They went to Lewiston, Maine, Minneapolis, MN (heard of the Muslim cabbies there?) and other select places to rabble-rouse and otherwise sow conflict.
That’s right, now I remember. At the time, many thought that was a really dumb thing Clinton did again, time’s proving them right.
