Imus producer criticizes Rev. Sharpton

NEW YORK --Don Imus' former producer said Thursday that the radio exchange that got them both fired was wrong, but that it would be horrible if people could no longer poke fun at each other.

Bernard McGuirk, a 20-year producer and on-air jester for the "Imus in the Morning" program, was fired a week after his boss for the banter in which members of the Rutgers University women's basketball team were called "nappy-headed hos."

McGuirk, in an interview on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes," said he "didn't get the memo" that the phrase 'hos' had reached the level of the n-word in offensiveness. But apologies to the Rutgers team were appropriate, he said.

But McGuirk said he and Imus had engaged in the same locker-room humor for many years, and received pats on the back and raises from their superiors before CBS Radio fired them this time.

He sharply criticized the Rev. Al Sharpton, who led the campaign to get them fired.

"It seemed like he terrorized broadcast executives," he said. "It seemed like they were in a fetal position under their desks sucking their thumbs on their Blackberrys, trying to coordinate their response."

The concept of "crossing the line" is hard to understand when it's not clear where the line is, he said.

"It's a horrible thing for this country where people can't poke fun at each other and just joke around, have a good time, without fear of being hammered by the PC police or lose your livelihood over it," he said.

I guess we know where the line was on that particular day. (Dissing future President Hillary was the real line they crossed)

Imus was wrong to use that phrase. It’s wrong for anyone, including Amazon. to use that phrase. It’s wrong for blacks to call each other “N*****”. As for Sharpton, he’s a media whore; I don’t know why CBS grabbed its’ ankles and dropped them for “Reverend” Al.

Imus gave Sharpton the spotlight by apologising every 3 minutes and kissing Sharpton’s shoe for forgiveness.

Best line of the evening “He (Sharpton) would take a wheelchair to an amusement park so he could jump the line”.

Yeah, and it's too bad that McGuirk never got the "memo" that he or his "boss" have no talent and that Imus is a racist - off the air as well. Have Imus tell the stories about how he treated others--like Brenda.

"I don’t know why CBS grabbed its’ ankles and dropped them for “Reverend” Al."

There seems to be a lot of ankle grabbing these days.

You just knew that this was coming!

Due to the Don Imus controversy, there will be only 49 contestants in the Miss Black U.S.A. Contest this year. Organizers state that no one wants to wear a ribbon that says:

I D A H O

The writer of the story didn’t have the courag to put in the really interesting things that McGuirk said:

On Sharpton:

“Sharpton would bring a wheelchair to an amusement park so he could jump the line.”

“”Classless clown”

“Sanctimoious skunk.”

“Used the situation to further himself.”

“The white interloper episode with Freddie’s Market actually led to people’s death.”

“The media treated him like he was somebody.”

Sharpton “got treated like royalty.”

He referred to the network executives at CBS and MSNBC as “the Neville Chamberlains of broadcasting. They caved to that terrorist. Free speech surrender monkeys.” He said that Sharpton “terrorized tehse brodacast executives. They were in the fetal position under their desks, sucking their thumbs.”

McGuirk wouldn’t comment on whether he would sue CBS.

He said “It’s a horrible thing for this country when people can’t poke fun at each other. Everyone’s got to lighten up. It is a slippery slope.”

“The PC Police are here.”

But you’re not going to see any of that in the MSM articles about the interview.

I’d like to see Fox News Channel hire Bernie and/or Imus for either a morning or late-night gig. Take calls. Do interviews. Invite a musical guest for each and every show. And get rid of the stupid scroll across the bottom of the screen. I’d watch.

Here's the real reason Imus is gone...he embarrassed Schumer.

On FR: Imus Grills Schumer for Not Visiting Walter Reed

Imus impugned a female basketball team...Schumer saw his opportunity...called Sharpton and asked him for a favor....
