Top Al Qaeda operative taken into US custody

The United States has taken into custody a top al-Qaeda operative who plotted to assassinate Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf and other officials, a Pentagon spokesman said Friday.

Abd al Hadi al-Iraqi, who was taken to the US navy prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba about a week ago, was intercepted while trying to reach Iraq to take over Al-Qaeda operations and to plot attacks from there against western targets outside Iraq, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said.

He is "one of Al-Qaeda's highest ranking and senior operatives at the time of his detention.

CNN reported that the guy was ‘captured’ a few years ago and that the Pentagon was just releasing the info. Did anyone else hear this?

Around 1480, give or take, they detained some hermit on suspicion of being a would-be Lorenzo the Magnificent assassin. So, after the customary rack, they skinned the soles of his feet and kept them to the fire till the fat started dripping - and then they made him walk. Unless there's more to it than was quoted, the bill was to ensure that food marketed as "Halal" was actually "Halal". It doesn't force anyone to make "Halal" meats and other products, it just says that anyone who choses to market their products as such actually has to do what they're claiming.
