Quote of the Day:

Q Mr. President, the Democrats have voted for a withdrawal timetable from Iraq, which you have said that you will veto. What ideas do you have for breaking this logjam going forward? And would you be willing to veto a second bill?

President Bush: Well, first of all, I haven't vetoed the first bill yet. But I'm going to. And the reason why I'm going to is because members of Congress have made military decisions on behalf of the military. They're telling our generals what to do. They're withdrawing before we've even finished reinforcing our troops in Baghdad. They're sending, in my judgment, a bad message to the Iraqis and to the enemy and, most importantly, to our military folks. So I made it clear I'd veto.

And, by the way, they're adding spending that shouldn't belong in the bill in the first place. Maybe they're important issues, but they ought to be -- these spending bills ought to be -- or spending issues ought to be debated in the normal course of business. So I've said this all along, my position has been consistent.

I'm sorry it's come to this. In other words, I'm sorry that we've had this, you know, the issue evolve the way it has. But, nevertheless, it is what it is and it will be vetoed and my veto will be sustained.

President George W. Bush's motorcade emerges through the fog in Thurmont, Md., on Friday, April 27, 2007, on its way to Camp David. The foggy conditions kept the president from taking his usual method of transportation, Marine One, to the presidential retreat.

This photo provided by the White House shows President Bush, left, reaching out to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during an abbreviated arrival ceremony at Camp David, Maryland, Friday, April 27, 2007.

Hey, Guess what I did. I bought a Honda Civic for the granddaughter and an Accord for myself. She picked hers up around lunch time and my grandson is going by to get mine. At the rate I put miles on cars, this one should last for 30 years. Hers is a dark blue and mine is Cool Blue.

President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan exchange nods as they open a joint press availability Friday, April 27, 2007, at Camp David. The meeting marked the first visit by Prime Minister Abe since coming to office.

President Bush: We have shown the North Korean leader that obstinance on this issue, that there's a price to pay. We have come together as a group of nations, all aiming to achieve the same objective, and that is for the leader to North Korea to verifiably give up the weapons program that he has, just like he said he would do …

We're hoping that the North Korea leader continues to make the right choice for his country. But if he should choose not to, we've got a strategy to make sure that the pressure we've initially applied is even greater. That's our plan.

I’m chugging along okay. This PC is forcing me to deeper levels of patience. ;-) It’s weird how sometimes I can type (IF I can get a program to open), and then suddenly I type but no words appear for a minute or two. I am grateful I can still check Email at irregular intervals, and cruise FR briefly.

So glad you have Fridays, Jonny. Thank you again and again.

Well, she has not had one to drive for months and she works about 10 miles from her house. She was so excited when we went up to pay for them last night. She was also very disappointed that they had to keep both of them for all the last minutes things like putting some kind of special paint on them. She did talk them into having it ready by lunchtime today. She picked out so much fancy stuff that hers cost more than mine. I am thinking about keeping my old one which has a little over 44,400 miles on it. Now, I am going to have to find one for the grandson. He has a nice little car which he really likes, though.

I will have to buy one for the grandson next. He has a sporty 2 door car which he and my bil fixed up for him. He just brought mine by. He said it really drives great. I got to bring it home Wednesday night and he is right. Now, he and some of his friends will have to come over to help me clean out the side of the garage so I can keep it inside. The door on the other side does not work.

I have never seen anyone so excited about a car than she is. She was so disappointed that she could not bring it home with her last night. The speed is displayed on the windshield which she really likes. It gets 34 miles in town and 40 on the road so that should cut down on the gasoline she has to use.

we’ve been married for almost 3o years and have never been able to buy a brand new car....last summer we got a 2002 and were estatic about it, it was the first family auto we bought in 16 years! We were fortunate enough to be able to pay outright for it so we have no payments.

Well, my old Honda was the first new car I had ever had. My daughter who died in 2004 totaled it so we got the new one. Since my husband’s death, I have enough money to do some things that I could not have done otherwise. It is like I told the saleslady, I would rather have him! He had been leasing new Yukons for years. The last one is the one that daughter is driving until the lease is up in August or September. I have already told my daughter and 2 grandkids that I am going to spend this money on us and they may not get anything when I die. They will have some wonderful memories, though. Just like the train trip we are taking in July. I usually do not spend a lot of money. I do not pay outrageous amounts for clothes, etc. I am not one to do that. I had rather be doing my genealogy stuff—have over 18,000 names in my FTM. I can spend hours doing that. After my husband, brother, bil, mother and an aunt died, that is what is keeping me sane. I am like one of those kid’s punching bags that pop back up after being knocked down.

Hi Kristin. Some pastors with a healing ministry will be ministering at my church this weekend. I’ll be able to go at least on Saturday evening, not sure if I’ll have transportation on Sunday AM yet, but if I can get there on Saturday I’ll be very happy.

Today I got three surprises in the mail - I love days like that. One was a teaching tape a friend sent me, one was a gift (kitchen product), and another was a fancy wine bottle cork remover I ordered. It came in a really nice, heavy cedar box and needs assembly. Imagine my shock when I opened the box, ordered from an American company, and found the instructions in a foreign language! I went to my favorite free translation web page
http://www.freetranslation.com/web.htm
and after a few tries, discovered it was written in (of all things) Portuguese! So I got a “gist of” translation (by this time I was laughing over the whole thing) and will assemble it with a friend’s help. I am also going to send the company that sold it to me a copy of the rough translation and tell them I am sure their other American customers are more likely to read English than Portuguese and since I created a rough translation of the insert on the web, I am sure their other English-speaking customers would like a dusted-off version of it. And then I’m going to append it to the note.

Anyway, that’s a long way ‘round to say I’m doing okey dokey. How are you?

May I compliment you on your taste and sense of style---not to mention your intellect on buying a HONDA. I have owned 6 and absolutely LOVEd them all. I presently have a 99 CRV and cannot say enough great things about it. It has 103K miles and going strong. Drives like a dream and gets GREAT gas mileage. Hondas are so well made and REALLY hold their resale value, should the occasion ever arise for a trade in for a newer model in the future.

You are so smart and I'm SOOOOO happy for you!!!!! Enjoy! You deserve the very best ;-)

Your FRiend,

NordP
