Sorry! Hope it didn’t come out your nose or anything... :-D

I don’t remember anymore. I just remember the look on their faces when I blurted it out. Maybe it had something to do with sex ed at school.

By the way, why does school teach about sex? Don’t parents do that anymore either?

I decided not to have children so I’m not up on what is taught at school anymore. I’m 35 now and remember cooking class and sewing class, and learning how to write checks and how to balance a checkbook. To be honest, neither of my parents taught me about any of those things. It bothers me that parents pass on their responsiblities of child raising to the government.

To be perfectly honest though, I don’t think it even occurs to most people, even people here at FR, that they are giving their children over to the government. We’ve all been raised with public school as a given but it wasn’t always like that. It’s not the Federal government’s job to educate anyone or take our tax money to do so.

I’m very pleased with the whole homeschooling trend. Do people who homeschool get any sort of tax break???

Cereal stayed down just fine, Miztiki.

Anyway, don’t know about any tax breaks for homeschooling parents. My best guess would be no because the government is “allowing” the parents to raise their own children instead of the school system. Surprised, really, that they’re not taxed for doing so.

Not only do home schoolers not get a tax break, they also have to pay taxes like everyone else for the local school system. I do think tax breaks are in order as they ease the burden on the local schools. The big advantage is that their kids have a better education than their public school peers.

I never had sex ed when I was in school, I graduated in 1972 from high school. But my dad gave me the sex talk.lol He asked me if I had any questions and I said no, I think I got it. He then told me the same thing his dad told him. Don’t crawl into he back seat with someone you are not willing to look at across the breakfast table.Good advice, I never forgot it!

Do you homeschool? If so, do you have to buy textbooks like they have at school? Or can you use any source that is - what’s the word I want? Not “good” but...?

I think it’s ridiculous that parents who homeschool don’t get a tax break. That’s just ridiculous! Are homeschoolers pushing for tax breaks? If not, they should.

Does the government make it difficult for people to homeschool their children? You know, like do the laws, rules, and regulations encourage or discourage homeschooling?

Any lurkers reading this who know anything about homeschooling? If so then I’d love to hear your input!

No, I didn’t home school my kids. If I were to do things all over again, I would consider it. I have delivered to families that did homeschool. I have always been impressed with the kids that home schooling turns out. They are so much better behaved and act much more grown up than public school kids. And I believe they are better educated, also.

Home school parents have to meet state standards as far as teaching goes, but they can pick out their own textbooks. In our area, they have fairs for parents to attend and learn about whats available for teaching and get info from other parents. It would take a lot of dedication to home school. One advantage is that the kids arent sitting in a school building all day. It doesnt take that long each day to learn the lessons. Most public schools waste a lot of time.

One thing, local schools and other parents look down on homeschoolers. The schools get federal money for each kid attending school and when a kid doesn’t attend, they don’t get that money for them. Schools aren’t about teaching as much as it’s about power and money.

You have to know that the government(liberals) don’t like home schoolers as it gives too much power to the family. Power that liberals want for themselves. They think they are better able to raise our children than we are.

Hope this helps somewhat. Just my opinion. Others may have different ideas and could correct me if I erred in anyway.

Thanks for the info. If I had kids then I would want them homeschooled. I agree about school wasting time too. I loved learning and doing my homework but 2 hours a day would have been sufficient. I hated all of the blah blah blah. I’m a get-to-the-point type of person.

I mixed up a huge batch of zucchini bread batter and just took 4 loaves out of the oven. Something’s not right so I need to see if I can save the remaining 12 or so dozen loaves. I don’t know if that’s going to be possible though. :(

Have a good night!
