Roseanne Barr went from a funny sitcom star to a pariah with one horrible National Anthem' rendition where she grabbed her crotch and spat after butchering the Star-Spangled Banner in San Diego. Rosie O'Donnell went from the 'queen of nice' to the 'queen of mean' by hosting 'The View' shock jock style and blasting away at anyone and everyone that didn't agree with her politics. So - can one replace the other? Can Barbara Walters fading reputation take it?

The New York Post has a report that Roseanne Barr has emerged as the top contender to replace Rosie O'Donnell next year on "The View," sources tell the newspaper.

"She's a piece of work, she's a character, she says what's on her mind and she's funny," said a source with knowledge of ABC's sudden and desperate search to find a new co-host to replace O'Donnell who quit the show last week. "They're missing strong personalities on that show, and that's what they're going to need if they want to keep it going," an ABC staffer close to the situation told the Post.
The paper notes that during an appearance on "Larry King" last week, Roseanne danced around the question of joining the "The View." "I'm not looking for the job," she said at one point - and joking at another, "Well, I want $10 million, like Rosie."
Alec Baldwin has be best shot probably.

IMO Rosie caused the shedding of patronage to The View show sponsors.
Apparently “The View” is the premier forum for fat, loud-mouthed, brassy women whose IQs don’t approach their bra size.

Rosie’s sit and crotch grab was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I remember watching baseball when I was little and that was all that stuck with me, was the spitting and crotch grabbing, lol... (50s, early 60s).

It’s a brilliant economic move on the part of the network....they can use that same industrial strength chair that Rosie will be vacating.

Under the Entertainment Theroy that there is no such thing as bad publicity, Rosie was good for The View and needs to be replaced with another mouth just as large, backed by a brain just as small.
Rosanne fits the bill perfectly.

And yet, still another reason not to watch that stupid show.
I refuse. It’s a matter of taste, standards .... or whatever.
I saw her in an interview on Fox News a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised to find her likeable.
I don’t recall her seeming to be liberal, at least not extremely liberal.

Above post is regarding Roseanne Barr.
She was extremely nice to Paula Jones (when everyone else in the media was jumping all over her) when Paula was a guest on Roseanne’s short-lived talk show.
It’s pretty clear to me that the “character” and “funny” component of the Roseanne Barr enterprise was named “Tom Arnold.”
Without him you’re pretty much stuck with “piece of work” and “says what’s on her mind” which doesn’t get you far, IMO.
I have a much lesser view of Barbara Walters, since the view has exposed her more. She now comes across as being as trashy as any there.
It just goes to prove how low the media has dropped in putting garbage on the TV! Most of the stuff on now is complete crap...I wish we could just order the channels we would watch instead of getting pushed with all these stupid channels (and hispanic speaking ones too!).
Replacing one Rosie with another isnt so bad. They could have gotten a really ugly replacement like Eleonor Clift.

I think that Theresa Heinz Kerry would be a much better selection, even though she is just a crude as both the jackass departing and the rumored jackass waiting in wings.
I highly doubt Roseanne has taken the “Dennis Miller route”. Her latest comedy DVD - Blonde and Bitchin’ - tackles hot issues of today - from gay marriage to President Bush. (Which I’m sure is just one bash to the next, if she’s like most ‘liberals’).

She made a good impression, and I’ll admit that I wasn’t prepared for that.
She was nice, pleasant, funny, and seemed well-balanced.
I remember thinking that I would like her in person.
I think comparing her to Rosie O’Donnell is very unfair.
I’ve never had any respect for Barbara Walters. In fact, I don’t have much respect for any “journalist” who’s gotten famous by hanging around people who are famous. That Barbara Walters is “trashy” comes as no surprise. She’s always struck me as vacuous, insipid, and cloying. Why should trashy be left out of the mix?
My hope is that there won’t be a next year for that show.
I saw Roseanne Barr on Bill Maher a while back. She was hideous towards all things GOP. She was calling for Bush’s impeachment.
She has the job in the bag. Sounds like she has all the credentials a major etwork needs.
