Two students who helped former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun as she was being robbed at knifepoint reaffirmed her faith in humanity, she said Monday.
"When something like this happens, when one person's right decision makes a difference, it's humbling," said Braun, who broke her left wrist. "It reminds you of how big a difference one person can make."
Braun stressed the importance of how these two strangers, University of Chicago junior Zachary Trayes-Gibson and freshman Rachel McFadden, saved her life.
Braun was attacked shortly after midnight Saturday when the assailant sprung from behind some bushes near her home in Hyde Park. She screamed as her attacker yanked at her purse. Braun said she wasn't trying to fight him off, but the purse was strapped across her chest and therefore difficult to remove. He pulled out a knife to cut the strap, slashing her glove open and leaving a slight cut on her left hand, she said.

From the last paragraph:
"Frankly I take some responsibility for dawdling in front of my car," she said.Being a true liberal, naturally she didn't want the punk to accept total responsibility for his actions.

"Frankly I take some responsibility for dawdling in front of my car," she said. "I plan to take the sensible steps that I didn't take that night."Henceforth, she plans to announce to all would-be muggers a schedule for her withdrawal from the neighborhood.
"I know that I am only making the problem worse by my presence," she said. "Once I withdraw from the Hyde Park neighborhood completely, I expect there will be no more assaults."

Eventually, she'll find a way to blame Bush.

Must be conservatives. Libs would have hemmed and hawed and tried to negotiate with the attacker, so as not to damage his self-esteem.

Certainly. The mugger couldn’t find a legitimate means of support because of those cruel, inhumane Bush policies.

She still has time to jump into the 2008 Presidential race: she could, potentially, run as a gun-rights, tough-on-crime Dem.

Hooray for the two students! They did a heroic deed. (I’m no Braun supporter, but I wouldn’t wish armed robbery on anyone! So glad she wasn’t badly hurt.)

Hiring armed security guards at all times so she can be anti-gun and be protected by people armed with guns, thus preserving the liberal ideal.

Yea, but is she still a liberal after being mugged? Yes, since she took part of the blame rather than putting it all on the mugger. If she had been raped though, (eww) she wouldn't be allowed to take part of the blame. Them's the rules.

After 30+ years of the practice of law, I have come to the conclusion that as a general proposition, nothing good comes of being out and about after midnight.

Why would a man have a hyphonated (sic) name? His mother is a feminist.
To: CertainInalienableRights
Why would a man have a hyphonated name?I'm guessing his mother insisted that his father hyphenate his own name legally as she had hyphenated hers - leaving the offspring with a hyphenated name.
To: Last Dakotan
I know one guy who hyphenated his last name to match his wife's.
I know yet another "guy" who took his wife's last name.
