Gidday Kanawa

(sigh) Yuh, another ugly incident with dogs DownUnder. You posted:

> Molly, 3, was savaged by a rottweiler and an american staffordshire bull terrier about 1pm.

I would be willing to bet next week’s salary that neither of these dogs have pedigrees, and that none have been bred to a Breed Standard. They would 100% be Mutts of unknown parentage, of the sort often described as “pitbulls” here, cobbled together in someone’s garage. One will have some dominant Rottie characteristics (maybe black-and-gold with a wide jaw and big chest, squat legs), the other will look more like a Staffie (shovel-shaped head). It would be a wide-open question (over which I would not bet: it’s too close) as to whether either mutt was licensed.

(Our NZ “pitbull” looks more like a staffie than an American or Boston pitbull — usually in the head-shape and jaw-line. Beyond that, he/she can look like just about anything.)

“So it is *not* an urban myth. There *is* a vicious breed.”

You were wrong last week, your wrong again this week.

And I’ve lost interest in this discussion.

Saying “you’re wrong” don’t make it so.

> And I’ve lost interest in this discussion.

Good. You haven’t had much intelligent to contribute to the discussion anyhow — outside saying “you’re wrong!” to people who disagree with you.

Wrong once again. You disagree with every certified vet in the country.

You’ve asked each one of them, obviously...

And that’s a stupid argument anyway, even if true. It’s exactly like saying that your Family Doctor have the final word on everything that pertains to human beings.

Mate, your Vet will be very good at treating the mechanical bits of your dog, just like your GP will be very good at treating all that physically ails you. Both will have a rudimentary understanding of psychology and genetics, and their viewpoints might be more valid than a layman’s. But their viewpoints are not Decisive.

So, as a competent dog trainer I have no difficulty at all disagreeing with any vet who tells me that the mungrel mutts that generally comprise “pitbulls”, which are bred for aggression and otherwise have no breed standard, are dangerous dogs. Because in this case, my viewpoint as a competent dog trainer trumps his/her viewpoint as a vet.

So which part of the post is funny? The part that says that vets are good at treating a dog’s mechanical ailments, or the part that says that trainers (like me) have a more valid viewpoint on dog behavior?

A “ROTFLMAO” is a puerile response, mate.

I’ll go one further. A proper dog breeder’s viewpoints would trump the viewpoint of any vet as it pertains to dog genetic traits. Every time.

The fact that, even if it were true that every certified vet in the country were of your viewpoint, I think it’s a stupid argument? That’s funny enough for a ROTFLMAO?

Crikey, you need to get out more.

But I would be interested in the views of “every certified vet in the country.” Perhaps you could provide something by way of proof? Obviously you’ve asked each one...

And “every certified vet in the country” says...? What? You’re obviously their spokesman, so what is their official consensus viewpoint?

Fact is, I don’t think you could prove that every vet in the country shares your viewpoint. Or could you?

I don’t believe every vet in the USA would agree that mungrel mutts bred purely for its aggressive traits and loosely called “pitbulls” are not dangerous animals. I challenge you to prove otherwise.

I would guess that no vet in the USA would allow their own child anywhere near such an animal. I would guess you wouldn’t either.

I’d even go further to double-dog-dare you to pet one yourself: there’s plenty just down the road from where I live, at the city pound. We could take our pick of the snarling mutts-loosely-called-pitbulls and you could show us how it’s done...

I’ll bring bandages, penicillin, tea and sympathy. And a digital camera because it would make fascinating viewing on YouTube.

Yet another puerile, idiotic response. All bark, no bite. No doubt there will be more of the same, nonstop — just like a barking dog. What a waste of bandwidth.
