"...murder by starvation, a painful and prolonged death."

I thought murder by starvation was a pleasant death.(sarc!) Didn't we hear that somewhere in the recent past?

Give the kids some meat. They need protein to grow and build mass. Total nuts.

Whatever happened to balance?

The taxpayers of Georgia are going to pay 4 or 5 million dollars to lock these morons up in cages forever.

Prison should be for the malicious and dangerous, not the idiotic.

Gross stupidity should not be punished in this manner; it’s too expensive, solves nothing, and doesn’t even make us feel any better.

If what they had done were cloaked in religion the punishment would have likely been far different; as long as we allow abortion on the one hand and termination of life support on the other we cannot avoid looking like fools by picking on deficient people.

"They're not vegans, they're baby killers," Fulton prosecutor Mike Carlson told the jury Tuesday during his closing arguments.

Apparently their child, their most precious gift, wasn't strong enough to adapt to their "liberal world". Pathetic excuses for adults...

Most 6-week old babies I know only drink mother’s milk or formula. If they were already feeding the baby formula they just were deliberately not feeding him enough. This has nothing to do with veganism, just plain malicious child abuse resulting in death. They deserved everything they got. An excuse that at 27 and 30 they just didn’t know better is ridiculous.

What am I missing? This baby was 6 weeks old? Sure, breast milk is preferable, then formula, but some people give soy. How could they be accused of murder? You don’t give solids at that age. Again....what am I missing?

The article doesn’t say why the mother wasn’t breastfeeding. She should have her tubes tied, though - she’s way too stupid to be a mom.

Heinous... This was rampant stupidity, yes, but it seems that these parents are being punished very harshly (life?), whereas other deaths PURPOSEFULLY caused by different people who were just exercising their “rights” as mothers or as primary caregivers are given the green light.

I’ve deleted this message twice because I get carried away when I think about all the double standards in todays judicial system. It seems completely arbitrary anymore what’s considered murder. If these parents pick up the Shaivo lawyer I’m sure they’ll win on appeal. Their baby probably had extensive brain damage, weighing only 3.5 pounds, I’m sure some judge will determine starvation was the best thing for it. Or if they can depict their Vegan diet as a religious matter, like many parents whose children die because they refuse to seek vaccinations or medical care. And if they’d killed him a few weeks earlier they could’ve gotten off scott free, since the baby wasn’t ‘human’ yet at that point. Unless someone other than the mother did it, in which case oops somehow the fetus really was human and now a murder has been committed.

Ohhh... I know I’m raving, but sometimes it feels like the courts are making their decisions up out of thin air these days, and who gets punished and who gets excused has no rhyme or reason to it at all. How can someone get life in prison for making a horrible mistake raising their baby, when women who every day intentionally murder their own children have the judiciary defend it as a god given right?

The sentence seems too harsh to me. They were trying the best for their child, seems the problem was one of incredible stupidity - how could they not see at six weeks 3 lbs is way too small?

It seems to me the crime should have been more about negligent homicide, rather than willful murder.

How could even a stupid vegan not know or care how important breast milk is to an infant?

It really IS murder by purposeful arrogance. They just knew better than everyone else!

The perps:

......
Jade Sanders.............................Lamont Thomas

An updated article:

Murder verdict for vegan parents

From the article:

Fulton prosecutor Chuck Boring said the precedent-setting verdict isn't a condemnation of veganism, a strict form of vegetarianism that does not allow the consumption or use of animal products. Instead, jurors believed prosecutors' assertions that the couple intentionally neglected and underfed the child and then tried to use the lifestyle as a shield.

The infant was born in the bathtub of a Buckhead apartment, but never taken to a doctor. The 6-week-old was dead when his parents took him to Piedmont Hospital, across the street from their apartment, on April 25, 2004. He weighed 3 1/2 pounds and was so emaciated that doctors could count his bones through his skin.

...

The Atlanta mother, Jade Sanders, 27, initially told police she fed her baby organic apple juice and soy milk. But the soy milk containers in her Buckhead apartment clearly state that soy milk is not to be used as a substitute for baby formula, her lawyer admitted.

This is pretty intense. People are obviously upset about the fact that these people inadvertently killed their son. Hmm, they should have gone with the abortion method instead. Gets the same job done, but without the life term in prison. Plus, the remarks would have changed from complete hate and disgust to, “they have every right; it’s her body; the fetus isn’t really a baby anyway; I commend her for her bravery to get the operation done; etc”.

Makes a whole heck of a lot of sense, doesn’t it?

Why does a born baby have the right to life while an unborn does not?

Think, people!
