‘Is that actually a currently popular song, to which folks would know the words, as everyone in the U.S. knows “My Country, ‘tis of Thee”?’

Some know them, some don’t. Personally I’ve never heard this ‘tis of thee’ song, so I guess it depends on your nationality.

Being Queen is Good work, if you can get it.

I can't think of anything worse! I'm glad to be an American commoner.

Well, you wouldn't, unless you went to a military band concert on an American base :-).

At the Derby, the University of Louisville band always plays “My Old Kentucky Home” and I think, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” I wonder if Saturday they will also play “God Save the Queen” ??

The Pay is Great.

The Work is Easy.

The Hours are not all that great.

When she visited the White House with Ford the Marine Band played “They Lady is a Tramp.”

‘Most of her income is tax exempt.’

Not true. She pays standard rate tax on all her private income (she chose to do this) but does not pay tax on anything related to her work as head of state or on inheritances.

I’m not so sure the “work” is all that interesting or “easy.” She has to be nice all the time in public!

‘I’d half rather be British (well except for having ‘New’ Labour as the controlling party in Parliament)’

We’re doing our best to get rid of Labour! :)

At least Prince Philip is good for a laugh once in a while.

I’ve been to several US bases in the UK, Germany, the US, Kuwait and Saudi but I missed the concerts! :)

I’m not a band music fan, myself.

The royals pay limited taxes, but get about $70 mil a year from tax payers to support them.

Phil the Greek is hilarious. I met him once at Highgrove - not in the slightest bit PC and all the funnier for it! :D

‘The royals pay limited taxes, but get about $70 mil a year from tax payers to support them.’

They get £8.1m per year in the civil list. All other funds are supplied to enable them to do their work or to maintain the historic buildings that are owned by the country.

Do you count the money spent to run the Whitehouse as your Presidents salary?

I’m just teasing you. You know, some Americans find it amusing to poke fun at Brits, i.e. gentle reminders that Jenny Jerome was a “Brooklyn chick.”

The money spent on the Royals is probably well spent, though their importance on the world stage is limited in the 21st century.
