Aniya Arrested Over Article “Against Islam”

Aishath Aniya was arrested on Thursday morning in connection with an article she wrote criticising the wearing of the veil.
She was apprehended by police at around 9:40am outside the offices of Minivan Daily newspaper as she parked her motorcycle. Aniya was lifted into the back of a police van and taken to Police Headquarters, before being transferred to the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs for questioning.
She refused to answer questions without a lawyer present and arranged to return to the Supreme Council on Sunday at 10:30 with a lawyer.
Religious scholars at the Supreme Council told her that the article, which objected to the concept that a veil must be worn because men cannot control their temptations, was “against Islam,” and “against Islamic principles.”
The Supreme Council has been seeking to question Aniya since publication of the article on March 20. On April 24, when police asked Aniya to attend the SIC for questioning, but fell short of arresting her, the SIC denied they had asked the police to intervene.
Media Coordinator Mohamed Najeeb also said he was uncertain whether the Supreme Council has the power to command citizens to appear before them, or if they are allowed to involve the police.
Police had come to Aniya’s family home on six separate occasions on Tuesday and Wednesday asking to see her, but she was not there. Officers insisted on seeing her bedroom and took her phone number from her family.
After her article was published in Minivan Daily, Aniya was told to “repent or resign” from her post as Deputy Secretary General for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and chose to resign.
She went into hiding for her own safety, and has been keeping a low profile since the incident.
So, I wonder...is the MDP an arm of the DNC (Democratic National Party)?

And the leftists think that their culture is better than our culture. I’d love to see Pelosi, Clinton, Fonda, etc. required to wear a veil every day!

If the Dems are successful in their search for total power and surrender they will arrest Christians and Jews that do not conform to Sharia Law when it is finalized after the surrender. Stuff like this really hits fundamentalist Islam where it hurts, because a LOT of Muslim women HATE the veil.
I listened to an enjoyable rant from a Muslim woman about how the veil is not in the Koran, and how any man who demands that a woman wears a veil is not worthy of having a woman.

The Gayoom clan is using religion to shift blame away from themselves, and to attempt to stifle democratic reforms they were forced to accept in the last few years. Maldivians are suffering greatly from the Gayoom clan’s kleptocratic control, and the religious police are all in the pocket of the leader, the police in the pocket of the leader’s family. Rule of law means nothing there, all tentacles of state power spread out from the Gayoom mansions.
The influx of tourists to outlying islands, and the introduction of ocean-cable high speed internet is greatly greatly affecting the social structure of Male. Young Maldivians and foreigners on visas are working on the resort islands, where there are no Islamic social mores, women run around naked, and alcohol flows freely. High speed internet use is something like 95% torrents in Maldives. The influx of media has radically expanded the world view of young Maldivians, and nearly completely swept away decades of Gayoom worshipping garbage that was omnipresent in the state controlled media.
Interesting times ahead, especially since the Gayoom clan is still beating, imprisoning and exiling their political opponents. Including this woman who is now (probably) going to be exiled.
As you probably read, Aniya was arrested on World Press Freedom Day, outside a conference hall where Gayoom was giving a key note address. The editor of the website you posted is now also facing being stripped of citizenship, confiscation of all his Maldivian assets and deportation/exile from the Maldives.

I didn’t realize the Maldives were important enough to have a Muzzie problem. But I guess any place, no matter how small, is a worthy target for the mad mullahs and their insane death cult.
