Madam Story Keeps Mum on Clientele '20/20'Declines to Identify Those Not Already Known
Washington Post ^ | May 5, 2007 | Howard Kurtz

Posted on 05/04/2007 9:25:12 PM PDT by Cinnamon

During several weeks of calls to possible clients of the woman dubbed the D.C. Madam, Brian Ross of ABC confirmed that some fairly important people had used her escort service. But when he put together last night's segment for "20/20," the network's chief investigative reporter decided against outing anyone beyond the two people who already had been identified. "They just weren't newsworthy enough," ABC's Brian Ross said of the names. (By Donna Svennevik -- Abc)

"Their names won't mean anything to our audience," Ross said in an interview. "They just weren't newsworthy enough." Instead, he said, "what we really wanted to do is demonstrate the range of official Washington" involved with the escort service. Their positions, as described by Ross, made them important, at least by the capital's standards: A federal prosecutor, who recently died. A handful of military officers, including the head of an Air Force intelligence squadron. A senior official at the World Bank and other officials at

me thinks there are some big fish democrat names in that list. ABC would not go to these lengths for any others from the political realm.

one name springs to mind. funny how MSM is protective of this info yet when Abu Graib happened they were championing the disclosure of every person involved, names, ranks, the people had a right to know!! in this instance they decide it won't matter whether the remaining names are disclosed...

From the end of the article:

There may be another shoe yet to drop. ABC did not push to obtain Palfrey's earlier phone records, which cover a nine-year period. But Ross said she has given them to three journalists investigating the Clinton administration.

Interesting.

That may be true, but it means a LOT in D.C. I think ABC was afraid of Arkancide. But I will ask what someone else asked:

Let me guess: The three journalists are Paul Begala, James Carville and George Stephanopoulos!

Maybe ABC blinked

Perhaps - though, I think, they behaved responsibly, if probably for the wrong reason (to cover up for Democrats).

Publishing that would have been tabloid-trash journalism at its absolute worst. There’s no news story here.

Frankly, in a world where we celebrate homosexuality on the streets, I’m just glad to know that there are still some straight Democrats out there.

Figure it this way, they were going to out republicans only, but it will be too obvious there were dems they won't name. So they ducked for cover and plan to leak the republicans through other channels.

Can't see any other explanation, weren't they just on O'Reilly touting the exposures they were about to make? And of course an obscure Bush administration guy was outed.

something is really suspicious here - why not just release the names and let the public decide whether or not it is newsworthy?

Palfrey made clear that she gave ABC the phone records to help her defense, because she needed assistance in identifying past clients who could be called as witnesses.

This explanation is patently absurd. It's actually hilarious! This story is good for a few chuckles.

So it seems her circle of clients was largely the international aid crowd, overpaid mostly Euro lefties enjoying their post-Christian lifestyle. ABC is right, nothing surprising there.

Eh, maybe.

But, really, do senior politicians have any need of escorts? I’d think they’d have women willing to whore themselves out for free.

My guess is that they got a list of second and third-rank bureaucrats who no one has ever heard of before (I mean - given that the outed the Bush guy, it’s reasonable to conclude that he was probably the highest-ranking Republican they found), and suddenly ran aground, ethically.

Frankly, I just don’t think that there’s much of a point in playing in these waters, even if there are numerically more Democrats on the list - since, as the Foley scandal made clear, Republicans and Democrats are held to different stanards by the media.

You raise a good point. If there were ANY substantial Republicans on the list, these would have been disclosed imediately. So far, all they got was a low level State dept hack. Probably more than a few prominent Democrats there.

I watched 20-20 tonight. They said there were NO politicians on the list. No Republicans and no DemonRATS. Riiiiiight!!! She said she will "take all of them down with her." I'm wondering who she could "take down" that would be of any concern to any of us except well known politicians? They also said she was in prison for 18 months once before for "pimping." Isn't that kinda, sorta the same thing? LOL!

IMO it's pretty clear ABC simply came up blank in its hunt for conservatives on the list.

Let's look at what ABC and Howie Kurtz are telling us.

First, that ABC was able to identify about 1,000 people on her list.

The underlings at ABC undoubtedly identified the 20-30 names they thought would be most embarrasing to conservatives and gave those names to Ross for him personally to call.

The following was probably their best hope for finding a "family values" conservative hypocrite to put on the air:

"One guy swore to me up and down it couldn't have been him, he loves his wife," Ross said. The man, a well-known member of a conservative think tank, was right: Palfrey, Ross said, had repeatedly misdialed his number by confusing the 202 and 301 area codes.

But they came up empty with that one! The other 20-30 must have been real duds.

So all they really had was that poor Deputy Secretary of State whose job was to deal with the international aid crowd which is probably how he got caught up in this.

Their last gasp I would guess was to go after military officers, who after all often turn out to be conservative. But out of 1,000 clients they identified, there was only a "handful" of military officers (although that was enough for ABC to single them out as a group), and it seems only one poor Lt. Cdr. worth targeting, and ABC backed down on that.

So it's just a bunch of international aid bureaucrats and lobbyists. Gee, I wonder if ABC feels dirty and disgusting after their "encounter" with Ms. Palfrey?
