The biggest poll debacle in the history of British democracy...

SCOTLAND'S status as a modern democracy was dealt a grievous blow yesterday by a scandal in which up to one in ten votes in the Holyrood election were thrown in the bin uncounted.

In a development that could bring into question the legitimacy of the Scottish Parliament poll, as many as 100,000 ballot papers were spoiled. That averages out as one in 20 votes but in some seats a tenth of the papers were spoiled.

Observers draw parallels with Florida shambles AN ELECTIONS watchdog is calling for electronic scanning machines to be installed in every polling station in Scotland to prevent a repeat of the spoilt papers fiasco.

Robert Richie, the executive director of Fair Vote, who has compared the problems encountered in the Scottish parliamentary and council elections with the "hanging chads" scandal in Florida, which soured the presidential elections in the United States seven years ago, said that there were major lessons to be learned from the Scottish experience.

Computers are a far far worse way to vote, if voters are not given a hardcopy receipt and the results by code number not published after AND if the results cannot be overturned in event of fraud or failure.

BTW: Florida was absolutely trivial compared to this, it was not a voting fiasco it was a political fiasco. The fiasco in Florida was the loser spending millions to try to break the law and count ballots that were NEVER accepted as valid before or in any election.

Florida was about the loser party pretending they could mind-read an ambiguous vote and claim they meant to vote Democrat when their ballot was void and invalid becaue of their ineptitude.

The Democrat party controlled the elections in those counties that were disputed. They could have gone to any county in Florida, they all had the same typical percent error (as do all States), but in the other counties they could not fake the count in their favor.

computer voting is a fraud. It cannot and will not be more reliable until every voter is given a hard copy receipt and a code number and the newspapers, or website publishes the results by code number after the election.

This is very very easy. They just need to hire one of many credit card software companies who have far more sophisiticated processing than required by election.

There is a very specific reason why US counties do not wish to issue paper receipts (they always claim its too difficult or expensive, yet the pizza delivery boy can do it).

You know the reason. I have first hand experience in wide scale vote fraud.

There is more at stake in an American national election than what was at stake in WWII or any major war in human history. More power, more military might, more money is put in control of the victor than Hitler would have gained in completely conquering Europe.

If people, men just like you and me, were willing to go to war killing millions for lesser reasons then you must understand why the 2 American political parties work together to ensure their 100% control over the US government.

Furthermore the US political parties are NOT government organizations. They are private associaitiosn just like a Kiwanis Club or a non-profit corporation.
