Sir, I’m all ears...which ones do you recommend instead?

A post below suggests Usingers. Any others?

Very respectfully,

If you really need Wisconsin wurst, try these, you won't be disappointed, and they ship all over.

Usinger's

I'm serious, check 'em out.

Usinger’s is the choice. For professionals only. If you have a bunch of drunk friends coming over for the game, save the Usingers for yourself and inflict the Johnsonville’s on your guests.

Interesting,

The Bad Durkheim Wurst Markt, is called a “Sausage Festival” but actually it is the largest wine festival in the World.

I was there a while back. Lots of fun, but I didn’t see a lot of sausages.

I was sidetracked while looking for something like this:

The "Freakin Deal" is a five-dollar daily special that includes two meatballs, a cut-up knockwurst,
potato salad, and sweet sauteed onions, plus excellent hot horseradish
and spicy mustard to dress the balls."

Sign me up. I could eat three of those along with a pint or two of Franziskaner.

I'll have to try the Usinger's when I'm up in Wisconsin next month. Haven't seen 'em down here in St. Louis.

For a widely-available-in-the-stores-here brat, I do like Johnsonville.

Standard commercial fare: ground up lips, snouts and bung holes. Make your own and find out what good sausage was really meant to taste like.

Usingers is fine but I prefer fresh brats from local german deli’s here in Phoenix. I ordered some Usingers when I lived in Kansas and had diarhea the next day, the flavor was excellent though.

I’ve actually called Usinger’s before to find retail outlets in NW suburban Chicago, and a very nice girl with absolutely no knowledge of geography helped me out (actually, I helped her help me, but I got what I wanted). I had a friend ship me a box as a gift once, the brats came packed in dry ice and survived the journey quite nicely.

I suspect you didn’t prepare them properly . . . no offense intended, but they do not come pre-cooked. You have to treat them with the same kitchen protocol you use for chicken.

I have been cooking brats since before I hit 18. Cook them in beer and onions for about an hour then grill to crisp, make sure the saurkraut is drained and warmed and put it on, possibly a side of fried potatoes. Only two times have I eaten brat’s that gave me the sh##s, johnsonville and usingers. I won’t buy from a large sausage company, keep it small and local.

In that case you are definitely having a reaction (or even have an allergy) to one of the ingredients.
