Did Howard Dean order KS Gov to lie about FEMA response & Greensburg Tornado?
Hot Air ^ | May 10, 2007

Posted on 05/11/2007 2:13:17 AM PDT by jsh3180

XM Radio’s Quinn & Rose made the allegation that DNC Chairman Howard Dean called Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius early Sunday morning and instructed her not to request federal assistance in recovery from the Greensburg tornado, and to lie about the federal response to date, on their show, The War Room, today. After I discussed the story via phone with both Quinn and Rose today, here’s what they sent me.

PLEASE NOTE: The following is information we have received from a reliable source. We have never been misinformed by this person in the past.

It seems that, on Sunday, a few hours after Kansas Governor, Kathleen Sebelius, made her remarks about Bush sending all their National Guard Members and Resources to Iraq, she made a call to Brownback

Sebelius, was calling to apologize to the Senator for making the Political statements that she did. She explained that she did not believe them and that they actually had too many National Guardsmen show up.

Governor Sebelius explained “Sam, you know how political everything is right now and we’re not allowed to let an opportunity like this just pass.” She continued “I made sure not to blame you or Pat (Senator Roberts?) or anybody outside the White House. With his (Bush’s) numbers, you can’t really blame me for usin’ that.”

Then Sebelius explained the path to her comments. After Brownback told her that he was very disappointed in her, She pleaded “You know me Sam, I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t have to.” She declared “Howard (Dean) called me around 5 o’clock (in the morning) and told me not to ask The White House for any help or make any statements until I heard back. Dick (Durban?) called me an hour or 2 later and that’s when he told me we needed to use this ‘n’ said to talk about the Guard all bein’ at war.”

She then explained the thinking; “Speaker and Harry got so much heat on them from both sides over this damn war, ‘n’ they need to get the press on somethin’ else. I didn’t think it was right to use it like this either, but I didn’t see’s I had much choice in this climate, Sam.”

She the[n] apologized a few more times and promised that she’d try to move away from the comment when she and Brownback were to meet up later and tour the damage, but she had to so it without disappointing Dean and Pelosi.

I asked them to characterize their source, and they replied that she or he would be in a position to have knowledge of the conversation between Sen. Brownback and Gov. Sebelius and has never misinformed them before. Sean Hannity has called Sen. Brownback’s office to either verify or debunk the story, but so far the senator has done neither. There is word that the senator may attempt a “limited hangout” strategy this weekend, in which he acknowledges that the conversation took place but won’t remember the Dean angle. Such a strategy, if that’s what Sen. Brownback does, might be an attempt to maintain comity in what has until now been by all accounts a smooth relationship between the Democratic governor and Republican officials in Kansas. Comity shouldn’t come at the price of truth, however.

At this point, I have no way of verifying whether DNC Chairman Howard Dean called Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius and instructed her to lie about the federal response to Friday’s devastating tornado. But I will make some calls and see what I can find out. Quinn & Rose’s story does fit the timeline and does fit the Democrat M.O. of late, in which they find a way to blame every single thing under the sun on Bush and on the war in Iraq. Other Democrat governors have pre-emptively blamed the lack of response to disasters that haven’t even happened yet on Bush and the war in Iraq. So on its face the story strikes me as very plausible.

This is basically a reported "rumor" with no verification. It sure seems to fit the MO of the Dim party though. Please remove from breaking news if not apropos to post it here.

It fits the pattern. Instead of contacting FEMA and DHS to request federal aid - she called Howard Dean for GOP-bashing instructions.

It’s still in the rumor stage because Sam Brownback won’t confirm or deny it. It sounds like he is in (as another Freeper posted) a Rodney King type “Can’t we all just get along mode.” Sorry, Sam. You HAVE to tell us the FACTS or you can kiss your candidacy goodbye.

Dean needs to be confronted about this. So do Reid & Pelosi (who supposedly knew about it as well). If true, they all need to resign immediately. But that would be the honorable thing to do, so of course that won’t happen.

Hannity went as far as to have Quinn and Rose on the air yesterday about this same topic. Rush alluded to it yesterday, although he did not mention this directly. I agree with the others that it isn't beyond the realm for the DemocRats to do this.

Also, saying that it's "XM Radio's Quinn and Rose Show" is like saying ESPN's Steelers. The show has originated from Pittsburgh since 1997 or 1998. They do an outstanding job and were out front of Drudge even when the Lewinsky matter broke. They are all around good folks, and are very active in support of our troops. Check out their website>>

If Brownback had a shred of care for his constituents, he’d let them nuke away. Like I said, how in the world could you go through your day knowing that these people who have lost everything, are being used so disgustingly. The mere thought of this actually happening makes me ill. I’m hoping it is not true, because if it is, we are in way more trouble than we think.

It’s time to disband FEMA - it’s obvious that they can’t do anything right, so why not just push the disaster welfare program back on the states. Frankly, it’s not a federal issue anyway. How much of my federal tax dollars was spent giving $1000 gift cards to Katrina “victims” 2 years ago so that they could by tattoos and cheap booze?

Sean Hannity did not touch this on the “Hannity and Colmes” show last night. It was “the big news” on his radio broadcast yesterday and he said that his staff would seek to verify it.

So, with nary a peep out of Sean last night, apparently it has not been verified.

We need to call those Nastycrats by their correct name: Marxist henchmen (and -women).

All natural disaster relief efforts must be completed in 24 hours. If not, they are deemed to be a failure with racist motivations. Why wasn't Al Sharpton called in? No blacks hurt in this one?

“So, with nary a peep out of Sean last night, apparently it has not been verified.”

You would think it would be easy enough to verify by checking with the National Guard in KS and also with FEMA, to see exactly WHEN/IF they were called to action. Ought to be public information.

“Then Sebelius explained the path to her comments. This person shouldn’t be in office if she can’t think for herself and when she knows she’s being told to lie she hasn’t the guts to refuse to. People in Kansas ought to be ashamed for putting this gutless idiot in office. If what she says is true about Dean then it just proves that there is absolutely nothing President Bush can do that they will agree with. It just proves the hate they have.

Heres an idea for the Democrats:

1. De-fund our troops in hopes of a disaster, then blame it on Bush. (Be proactive and create disasters.)

2. Reveal our presidents secret anti terrorist programs in hopes that they hit us again, then blame it on Bush. (Again, be proactive.) Warning! To implement these plans on a president, you must be a democrat. The law indicates these are treasonous acts.

My theory on Katrina is that the DNC told Blanco to sit back, do nothing and let the “Cowboy” send in Federal troops without her request. That would be an impeachable offense. When the President didn't take the bait, they fell back to Plan B, blame the delaly on FEMA/Bush.

I agree. Lending further credence to the story is the nature of the governor's quotes--detailed, lengthy. Note the way this is written up. Great care seems to have been taken to reflect even the sound of the words as spoken. Note the dropped g's at the end of words and the use of 'n for "and."

Also, if you look at her history, she’s not one to have jumped on the moonbat ship. She DOES have a good relationship with republicans, and she is elected in a pretty republican state. It was out-of-character for her.

That’s why I believe the story. And it makes sense that the democrats would get her to do it, exactly because she IS seen as a democrat who wouldn’t make things up.

It also makes sense that she would have 2nd thoughts about it, and discuss it with someone she had hurt to explain herself.

I’d love to see her come out and publicly admit it. I doubt she will.

Look at it this way: no-one without a court order is gonna get the phone records anytime soon! Until those can be checked (or their Skypes) all we can do is look at the times the Governor actually requested help. That record will speak volumes. As in Katrina.
PS: Up front we know the D&C and Governor will lie to protect eachother. Look at the time of the Governor’s requests.
