Fortress America's gate is open

Most terrorists seem like bumbling losers if they're caught before the act: That's certainly true of the Fort Dix jihadists who took their terrorist training DVD to the local audio store to be copied. It was also true of the Islamists arrested in Toronto last year for plotting to behead the prime minister, one of whose cell members had a bride who wanted him to sign a prenup committing him to jihad. The Heathrow plotters arrested while planning to blow up U.S.-bound airliners included a Muslim convert who'd started out as the son of a British Conservative Party official with a P. G. Wodehouse double-barreled name and a sister who was a Victoria's Secret model and ex-wife of tennis champ Yanick Noah. But then Mohammed Atta and the 9/11 gang would have seemed pretty funny if you'd run into them in that lap-dance club they went to before the big day where the girls remembered them only as very small tippers. Most terrorists are jokes until the bomb goes off.

So, when we're fortunate enough to catch them in advance, it's worth pausing to consider what they tell us about the broader threat we face. According to genius New York Times headline writers, "Religion Guided Three Held In Fort Dix Plot." You don't say. Any religion in particular?

It’s a religion of peace, though. And the immigrants across our southern border are only doing the jobs Americans won’t do.

If terrorists succeed in launching an attack on the U.S. by way of the unfortified border, the Republican President and the Democrat Congress--i.e. the politicians responsible for the open border!--will reap the fury of the American people--a fury whose seeds these politicians have so carelessly sown!

9/11 was never repeated because of President Bush and his attentive leadership; however, there is no excuse for the dangerously open Mexican Border, and, if it should lead to disaster, the American people will be unforgiving--of both Democrat AND Republican politicians--who will be and will be held responsible!

Mark Steyn nails it again. Illegal immigration is directly a national security issue and this should be a wake up call to all of those on the left and the right that say that illegals come here just to find work. However I fear we the sheeple have been euthanized in their thinking process and “Islam” is the one religion you cannot criticize. I hope this never happens but I have come to the conclusion that it will take 2 major attacks on American soil to wake up the rest of the country so we can finally do what it takes to secure our great nation. A nation without borders is no nation at all and on this issue, President Bush who has been so steadfast on the war and national security has dropped the ball. I believe that illegal immigration is the one issue on which a viable 3rd party candidate could run and win if he convinced enough people that he would secure the borders.

I read somewhere that you can give the average American a 2500 sq foot house, 2.5 kids, a yard, a dog, 100 channels on a plasma TV and pizza on demand and they don’t care of the country goes to hell in a hand basket. We are the last hope of freedom and liberty and the future of the civilized world is dependent on a strong America.

Your post #4 is well said.
"I believe that illegal immigration is the one issue on which a viable 3rd party candidate could run and win if he convinced enough people that he would secure the borders."
I think you're right.

Be damn careful when you talk third party. Ross Perot made his bid and we got Xlinton as a result. Now I hope the Republican wing of the Republican Party will be smart enough to see the importance of immigration as an issue in this election - and repudiate Bush’s open borders policies. Even if they don’t let’s make sure we don’t end up with Hitlery.

“Be damn careful when you talk third party”. You are right about the Ross Perot effect and any Republican would be better than Hitlery. However the Republicans do take their base for granted for exactly the reason stated above because where will people like you and I go ? Meanwhile the border stays wide open and this issue is too vital to leave unsolved any longer. Drastic times call for drastic measures. I would prefer if the conservative wing of the Republican party dealt with this issue but none of the top tier candidates have a strong policy on this issue. Romney is probably the strongest on this issue but we really need someone with a “Tancredo” take on immigration, a Duncan Hunter take on national security and a Romney take on economics and taxes.

If you really care about border issues, why don’t you give the people who are working on solving those problems any credit? Don’t you understand that there is no reward for this thankless work, because people like you say the same thing no matter what they do? It is counterproductive.

You're RIGHT!

Hey, everybody! Note RKV's warning:

Here is the gut check paragraph:
On one hand, America creates a vast federal security bureaucracy to prevent another 9/11. On the other hand, American politicians and bureaucrats create a parallel system of education and welfare and health care entitlements, maintaining and expanding a vast network of fraudulent identity that corrupts the integrity of almost all state databases. And though it played a part in the killing of 3,000 Americans, leaders of both parties insist nothing can be done to stop it. All we can do is give the Duka brothers "a fast track to citizenship."
Well said, Mark!

Squishy Political Correctness is fast killing our country.

We may be catching the dumb ones who could only do local, limited damage. But what about the smart ones who can do wide spread, message damage? Where are they?

Thanks for posting this, it is the best analysis I have read in years. The Homeland Security and TSH are grotesquely flawed... and don’t think that the Evil Ones are unaware.
